I have the same 1958 Johnson 50hp that was my Dad, it been in my parents basement since 1976 and and in 2016 my son and I got it out ,after get some new parts in the last 2 years we got it to run. May have to replace the water pump. I will follow this site for updates on your Fat 50hp.

What is the gas to oil ratio, I seen from 16:1 to 50:1

Thomas Lampe… for this model and year it’s 16:1 models built prior to 1964 had brass bushings for bearings and required higher oil ratios. Some will argue that with the newer TCW3 synthetic 2 stroke oils you can use 50:1 but I wouldn’t risk destroying my motor.
