I have recently fixed up an old Evinrude Fisherman 5.5 from 1963. It's such a pleasure to work on these older engines, just for the fun of it. Nice work!

@peterlindqvist6998…. Hey Peter, thank you for your kind words. If you get something useful from the videos then I feel I’ve really accomplished something. I’ve been a boat owner for over 30 yrs and have done all my own maintenance and repairs on all my equipment. I’ve learned to repair my own things out of necessity to save money. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate you!

This might not be the case with that engine but srratic idling which doesn't seem to react to needle fiddling is often due to a leaking top shaft seal. Soot and oil residues on top engine parts and inside the cowling is a tell tale of this situation. To check the seal, one snould pull off the recoil, flywheel and spark plugs then, spray soapy water over the seal's location and slowly turn the motor over using the flywheel nut looking for bubles. Regards !

@danielrobert7181…. I didn’t think to check the upper seal. However, once I tightened the nut on the needle it seemed to respond to slight adjustments. I will pass your thoughts onto the owner and if they decide to have me tune up the ignition system then that would be a good time to look at that seal.
