The valve adjustment on this is easy to understand. But why are the 2 nuts on the bottom on other bikes? Different push rods and the jam nut is right on top of the other?

No preload on solids just do up to zero lash a snug fit. So you can just turn the rod but its fairly tight not too loose. Solid rods and hydraulic rods have a diffrent procedure in other words. No priming or bleeding required either with solids. With solids you may need to adjust them more regularly. Both have pros and cons. 6 of one half a dozen of the other. Depending on how you intend to use the bike may determine which way you choose. I know this post is old but for anyone else who comes and reads here later.

Hey Tatro, I’m guessing the bike needs to upright to measure the transmission fluid level n do you recommend that same level for a 1970 FX? 😎

yes on the upright but no on the oil level. the filler plug is higher up on the cover so you have to use the level plug. that is the set screw in the center of the cover. tatro
