In the fall of 1957, my family took delivery of a 1958 Star Chief Custom Safari in these exact colors. The Custom Safari was this car in wagon form. Same trim, same chrome, same dash, same carpet, same gas filler secret. My father was in the Air Force and every two years he ordered a new high end Pontiac from Joy Motors in Emmett, Idaho. Having grown up in Emmett (His Dad, my Grand Dad, was Chief of Police for way to many years) the family would go on vacation or re-assignment via Emmett for Grandma's incredible pies and delivery of fresh off the factory assembly line, the newest and nicest. Thank you for sparking vivid memory cells of my earlier years.

Maybe I shouldn't mention this, but I had the greatest opportunity any 14 year old could ever have. My dad took me down to LAX airport unbeknown to me, I had to drive my uncle's 58' pontiac just like this one, I drove it down to Torrance, Ca. which if you live in the area isn't very far from LAX airport, but for a 14 year old it was far enough, but that 53 years ago. I really love all the details of this car and the chrome work, AWESOME! Wish I had one :(

What a beast! I bet it doesn't get over 15 miles to the gallon. But back in '58 that kind of mileage didn't matter since gas could be had for about 25 cents per gallon. I was in the Army when I owned my big V8 Bonneville so the joke was, the tank was rusty above a dollar's worth.

This was always my favorite Pontiac. My Aunt Gladys had a green Catalina in 1961. Beautiful car. She took my brother and I for a ride in it and hit 100 mph in no time. While traveling out west pulling a travel trailer, Gladys was driving too fast again. The trailer fish tailed, she lost control and destroyed everything.

The fuel injected 57 Bonneville convertible and the 58 Tri Power Bonneville are two of my favorite 1950's cars. They were one of the fastest cars you could buy at that time. The 59's are cool too because it was the first year of the 389 engine, the split grille, and the Wide Track stance. But they're much bigger and heavier than the 57 and 58. The 1959 GM cars are probably the biggest cars I've ever seen in my life. I like the 1957-58 Oldsmobile J2 Tri Power cars too. But I'm a Mopar guy so my favorite 1950's cars are the 1958 Chrysler 300 and the 1957 Dodge Coronet D-501...a car which only really hardcore Mopar guys know about. It was Dodge's NASCAR homologation special that year and came equipped with a Chrysler 354 Hemi rated at 355 horsepower...the same engine that was optional in the 1956 Chrysler 300B. They only built 56 D-501's in 1957. A super rare Mopar factory race car. There is one in Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum

Man If I won the lottery, I wouldn't be getting a Bentley or a Bugatti, I'd be getting a treasure like this. Something made with great love and care, something I would get as much pleasure from looking at it as I would driving it. My astra vxr 2015 would be laughed at for its styling if I could have brought it back to the 50s

Nothing in '57-58 can compare to the Eldorado Broughams. Now having said that, the '58 Olds 98, '58 Buick Riviera & '58 Pontiac Bonnevilles were beautiful! 😍

In 1958 it seemed that all of GM's big cars, Buick, Olds, Pontiac and Cadillac had that same hood stance. We had a '58 Buick and that is the first thing I recognize when I see these beautiful old classics. And actually, there is probably more metal in one of those hoods than you'll find in an entire cookie cutter car of today. Back then cars had real styling and class.

The Forgotten Pontiac. The '58 was the start of Pontiac's climb to performance dominance...Tri-Power? Got it. Want Fuel Injection? Got that too. It wasn't said, but did this car have the Reverb speaker option for the rear speaker? For noobs, the speaker had a slight delay, which gave the sound real presence in the car. But this is a hell of a Pontiac. I wonder where the fuel-injected convertible (same colors) I saw in Harrisburg PA in the early 60s is today?

I had an uncle that had a car just like this same color and everything. He ran it off a bridge at Port Isabel (South Padre Island), in June 1964. he was doing about 85 MPH and running from the Police. They never found the car or him. It may still be sitting in the bottom of the gulf.

@@loucostabile loved it man lol! Currently I'm 23 but I have a vision for a future...a 1957 chevy or 56 ford in my garage...but these 50s cars always fascinated me! Like I would say when they started adding fins in the back. Like mid 50s...you don't see cars like these anymore! Like today's cars are cool like the sports cars...but nothing compared to these...maybe in the future when I'm older I'll own one! Which will happen! It will!
