My first car was this car in Biscayne trim. When I bought it at 15 years old it had a blown up 283, a blown up 3 sp. transmission and a blown up rear end. By the time of my 16th birthday it had a 283 Corvette engine, a 3 sp. Synchololock transmission with a Hurst Shifter, and a 4/11 posi rear end. The reason that I bought it was that the body was perfect, it had great paint, and I got it for $100.00 dollars. I wish that I still had it.❤❤❤

What a *sweet* ride and sweet treat for Valentine's weekend...Red, with all the bells & whistles! Love that chrome, front grill....and the fins/tail lights too! Plus, I loved the crisp, clean sounds of the opening/closing of the doors, hood & trunk. The engine sounded so smooth and it was great to hear it's power, with the header open. That would get everyone's attention! Whoever did the restoration on this '59 beauty, did an amazing, loving and *showroom* job! Awesome that it's going to an appreciative new owner and so quickly...can't blame 'em for snapping her up. Too bad it wasn't meant for your son...it would have really made a sweet 16th birthday present, but I'm sure the automotive gears are turning in your head for that special day. ; ) ....Thanks again Lou (and Dennis), for another great video and classic automobile. @@loucostabile Yea I forgot to tell you guys but now I remember when I was 17 in 1974 me and my best friend drove my 1967 chevy belair down to key west florida. Our first stop in the Keys was Grassy key. We saw a sign on the side of the road that read Grassy Key Farm Fresh Eggs. So we turned into this sand road and ended up at a nude beach! My buddy got his butt so sun burned that he couldn't sit down for 2 days! LOL. I love any old car. My mom had a 66 red malibu convertible when I was 14. Beautiful car. My Dad bought a 1959 Biscayne, same body only less glitz. It was a six cylinder three on the column, rubber floor mats (no carpets), radio delete, blue with absolutely no trim. Probably somewhere on the back of the lot but it was economical and served our family for ten years. This Belair is stunning and the documentation, restoration, and low production numbers, makes it rare and unique. '59s did not survive for many reasons. The market is on fire for all models. I can see why your friend pulled the trigger. That was a steal. Thanks for sharing.

Loaned it to friend to go pick up his girlfriend a mile away for my girlfriend's and her prom night. I stayed at my girlfriend's house. Half mile away an elderly lady blew a red light and t-boned it. What an awesome time piece. Loved the story, and ride along, thank you Lou. I posted on another site, and won't go into detail here. Just wondering, what the rear gear ratio is, seems like a long whine between shifts, for a 4 speed. In 64, I had a 61 348 with the 350 horse, Muncie 4 speed, 3.70 posi rear gear, in a 59 Impala sport coup. I ran Mickey Thompson specials, 8.50 by 14, on 6.5 in. chrome reverse rims then, and could not keep traction in 1st gear, even from a roll. I remember back then, the 348's were referred to as, "Boat Anchors". I'll tell you what Lou, that 348 of mine, was one screaming engine at 6,000 rpm's. Uncle Sam knocked on my door, and that was the end of my great 59, and the 348. Thanks again Lou for a great video, you'r the man.

I was also born in '59, in 1977 my first car was a '59 2 door Impala in mint condition. Red paint & red interior it was a present given to me by my ma. She knew I liked '59 Chevy's I drove that car all the time & if I wasn't driving I would just stare at the car for hours at every angle inside & out. Even an overhead view from my bedroom window. I was obsessed with the car even when I drove it I would look at the reflection cast on the glass of businesses . I just couldn't get enough of it. '59 Chevy's are my "CHRISTINE". i was in traffic at a stop light on August 16, 1977 when I heard the news of Elvis' death. I wasn't a fan of rock n roll before. I learned the hard way it's a danger to be obsessed because I got into a bad accident & the car was completely smashed up & demolished. It wasn't worth fixing & much cheaper to buy a better one. I was only a 17 year old punk kid . My dad bought me my 2nd car in 1978 a '57 Bel Air 4 door hardtop just like the one he bought in 1957. I sold it & made a profit same year. i bought a 2nd '59 2 door Impala in 1979 in mint condition with my own money. It wasn't as exciting as my first red '59 I wrecked. I didn't wreck this one. In 1980 I passed on a '59 Impala convertible for $1,200 it was nice but it had 3 on the tree, new white top black paint & red interior. But all the side chrome was missing & also the front grille. It turned me off I'm not into projects. Same year I passed on another '59 2 dr Impala in mint condition for $1,200 I wanted the car but I recall spending hours at the sellers house thinking about it. I decided not to buy it because I already had 2 before & it gets old buying the same car. I bought a '59 Ford Skyliner retractible instead. I took the '59 Chevy's for granted assuming they would always be cheap cars. So I've had lots of other cars '57 Chevy's , '56 Buick, '55 Old's had 3 '60 Chevy's etc. I did buy one more '59 2 door Impala in 1998 same color like my first car in 1977. I never got over that terrible accident & I wanted that red "CHRISTINE" back. I had to finance it the '59 Chevy's were now sought after.I did the same thing I did when I was 17 I started staring at the car again I hardly ever drove it. I got obsessed again the car made my heart race giving me goose bumps I sold the car & paid off the bank & I moved to England for 3 years to pursue my music career. I sold the car thru a dealer & he found a buyer & the dealer told me when the buyer drove off in the '59 Impala the brakes went out & the car crashed into trees & bushes & crashed into a bldg. & he almost stacked it up.I'm glad I got out of that car But I still love '59 Chevy's & I wowed the '59 Chevy will be my last car before I die. They are my "CHRISTINE" As a kid in the 1960's my next door neighbor & best friend's dad drove a '58 Chevy station wagon named "LUCIFER". i never gave pet names to my cars. I want another '59 I'll settle for a 4 door I always liked the flat tops.

What a beauty! I hesitate to wonder what this gentleman paid for a true nut and bolt restoration with NOS parts. The only clue to this top of the line Super Turbo Thrust 348 are the dual exhaust and the crossed flags in the front of the hood. The horsepower wars were just beginning in ‘59-‘60 and this baby is a great example.

Have any of you guys seen the infamous video of this kind of '50s muscle car in a crash test with a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu? That showed this in an unusual complete disadvantage. People thought the motor was taken out, but there actually was, a Straight Six, and because it was an offset test, that left the front end WIDE open for the impact. The primary problem however was the fact that this car, along with other Chevys to the mid-'60s, was X-FRAME, which was a bad design even when it was new, as that doesn't have protection on the entire side, despite the metal body. Converting the Bel Air to body on frame (if possible) would help a lot, but even then, please avoid crashes in old cars. You take the force far more than in a current day car even though they're durable. As for my opinion about this car, BEAUTIFUL classic Chevrolet. The owner definitely took care of this 62 year old collectible. I would still drive that thing anyday. Living room on wheels. Finally got to see the speedometer and horn in 16:40. Thank you.

Right @ the start, Lou. You omitted pointing out that that "jewelry", as you call it, on the hood immediately indicates that crossed flags mean there's a 348 under the bonnet. BTW, that specific idler pulley was also correct from the factory on the later ('61-'65) 409.

It's nice to see a 2-door Bel-Air that's been so lovingly restored like this. I think 'collectors' lop the Bel-Air in with the (mostly unloved) plain Jane Biscayne. The Bel-Air still has some.. some of the nice touches of the Impala. I love the fender ornaments. (I don't think they're on the Biscaynes.) They're a little reminiscent of the great ones on the '55 and '56 Chevy. I wish that ornament had been retained on the '57, but noooooo, it got the 'double guns' that went took away from the beautiful hood otherwise. That's the least of the '57s problems though, with so many (convertibles) ruined by the continental kit, fender skirts, extra mirrors. Uggghk.
