That is an outstanding restoration!! Excellent utilization of limited space. That particular glasspar was one of the best looking boats of that era.

You’ve done a great job on restoring the boat. Fantastic colour and paint job, lovely lacquered timber work and quality hardware, as well as modern and matching fabric selection in the cabin. The white hull with black stripe together with the red top look super. And of course the Evinrude 2 stroke would give you great performance all round. Cheers.

I bought a Sunliner thinking I was going to restore mine to a quality similar to your Sedan. Man, I don't know how you had the patience for it. These old boats are nice but they definitely had their manufacturer defects.
@CharlieFrky3 жыл бұрын
That's for sure...I lucked out with my wooden stringers being in good shape, usually they are totally rotted out with just the fiberglass left. Later, not sure what year, but they switched over to fiberglass box stringers to prevent them from ever rotting. Live and learn and the manufacturers at the time were doing the same thing. They are definitely a lot of work, but it pays off when finished. The amount of joy this boat brings to people is worth it alone, but it was certainly a lot of work. Thanks!

I have a ‘59 l picked up this year waiting for me to restore. It’s all there including the original Evinrude Starflite ll which l will be restoring and keeping as power. I am very impressed with the work you did to Kona, a real quality job. Where did you locate your bilge pumps? I was thinking of putting one below the cabin floor (between the bunks) where the lowest point of the hull is and keeping it accessible with a deck plate.
@CharlieFrky2 жыл бұрын
I sealed up the area below the deck but water always fines a way. I later had to instal that deck hatch at the cabin door to access it and dry it out. One thing we never realized until the boat was in the water is how the deck slopes toward the cabin. So when washing it puddles at the door sill, even with the fuel tank/batteries and outdoor at the aft of the boat. When we rebuild the transom, we added a sump bilge below deck line so we can keep the fuel tank as far back as possible to keep deck space and has a low point for all the water to collect.

I lucked out and the Bimini itself came with the boat, original 1959. The frame is homemade

Great Job! I have acquired a '61. Fortunately it was kept in a boathouse in MN since new. I'm updating everything, but not digging in to the floor as yet. I'm wondering where did you get those seats you are using? I am doing a similar thing using a Yeti cooler where you have yours mounted and will be installing an 18 gal gas tank. I moved the batteries forward to under the cuddy cabin bunks. Keep on boating!!
@CharlieFrky3 жыл бұрын
That is the one thing I WISH I did, move the batteries into the cabin. With the big 115hp, 21 gal fuel tank and (2) batteries all within the last 12" of the boat, she's aft heavy and doesn't ride the best. I put my inflatable digney and ancors as far forward as I can to distrubte the weight better and the boat won't pound nearly as hard. Plus you would get way more outdoor storage. The captain and co-captain seats are made by Tempress. tempress.com/store/All-Weather-Series-c442149 The cooler seat I bought from West Marine or possibly Amazon but couldn't find it on Amazon anymore. Can't wait to see a video of her!

@@CharlieFrky Thanks for the information! How about that portable seat you spoke so highly about? I've been searching but so far no joy. Unfortunatly the weather has started to turn so will likely winterize the engines soon. Cheers!

You did an awesome job on your restoration! I have the same model and take it to Catalina as well. One thing I see you have and I have not been able to find are the fold down seats. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
@CharlieFrky2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! They are high-back folding chairs from Tempress Seats and are on hinges with removable support legs to allow them to fold up. Make sure you use an aluminum backing plate to the hinges, the bolts will pull right through the fiberglass and you'll have a wobbly seat. Find me on Instagram and I'll send you a couple pictures of how I did mine. I just hauled her out yesterday for her yearly maintenance, so if you want any other detailed pictures, let me know! She's right in the driveway 👍

Hi there. I have a Seafair I’m looking to repower. What are the engine specs on that outboard?
@CharlieFrky5 ай бұрын
When the boats were new, they were rated for a 90 hp Max but we rebuilt the transom and tied it into the hull and splashwell, put new 3/4" decks and sistered each stringer. Having to cross the channel each weekend, we knew we were going to need more power and to strengthen the boat for hard pounding. I put this 2007 Evinrude E-tec 115hp on and it's been amazing. Here are the specs to the E-tec: Horsepower: 115 Fuel economy: 20/25 MPG Dry weight: 369 lbs Towing capacity: 6,640 lbs
@gqdoggy5 ай бұрын
@@CharlieFrky thank you. I think I’ll go with a 90hp as mine isn’t modified much other than seating arrangement. Where did you find the etec? They’re a little hard to find used.

@DaMAV3R1CK Still perfect! If not better, had the entire outboard rebuilt...from pistons/rings to every bit of rubber hose. All replaced with OEM parts from Evinrude...took a loooooong time sourcing all the parts. Motor basically has zero hrs on her and still needs a break-in period...I upgraded to a 1985 40' Ocean Alexander Trawler but can't find it in my heart to sell her.
