I was recently given dozens of old 16mm films that were rescued from the dumpster of a local college many years ago, all dealing with machine shop topics, ie training, etc. Scanning them is a laborious process, so I'm only going to do a few of them. I will most likely be passing these films along to an archive rather than tackling them myself, but maybe I'll do a couple more of them.
I've seen other low-quality copies of this film elsewhere online, but I figured I could do better even with this red-faded copy.
Scanned with my Moviestuff Retroscan Universal.

The color negative stock used to produce the final product was very susceptible to fading.....actually the red layer did not fade, but the cyan layer did.....very typical for the era.....cheers and well done on another scan......

This is why double insulated tools with modern plastic housings are a major safety improvement.

This is so cool! My Grandpa was an electricians mate in the navy during this time. I wonder if he ever watched this film or one similar during his training.

6:54 - "There would probably never be an electrical accident if electricity were visible, like water, for instance..." Counterpoint: steam, which has quite the accident-generation propensity _despite_ being visible (and frequently audible as well).

In fairness, this film dates from 1960, when GFCIs were still a very new technology.

Ah, the U.S. Navy, where 115-120 volts counts as "low-voltage".

peahix: is there a way I can get access or down load your footage to try and do a color correction for you? I do take my own videos off KZbin after adding music, and bring them into an edit software on my computer.....but not sure how to capture something I did not create originally. send me a message in private if this is possible, best regards, Paul in Florida

i don't usually spend alot of time and effort trying to color correct red faded film. i just make a few quick adjustments and call it good. but if you'd like to spend some time on this one, send me an email: phix@optigan.com.

3:41 - ...wait, shouldn't drilling through a conduit be a non-injurious event if the tools in question are, as stated earlier, fully-insulated?
@Comm0ut

Those metal-bodied tools are INTERNALLY insulated but that in no way insulated the metal bit, metal chuck and metal tool body from external current. Modern tools have non-conductive bodies so external current hazards to their operators are reduced.
