nice wood, not overdone like many people do. tool kit is nice but from a silver shadow. horrible exhaust leak is somewhat common although not usually the case in restored cars. Sounds like manifold gaskets or cracks in manifold. No big deal to fix, just have machine shop lap the face of the manifold flat and reinstall. radiator hose is wrong and so are the clips that hold it, another very easy fix but it would cost points at a show if it was not fixed. Seems like very nice car.

The engine bay and wood are hardly show quality and the wood is not breath taking. I can see frayed wires on the windscreen washer bottle and the paint on the valve covers is well worn and should be redone, just to start... The veneer looks sound, but the finish is cracked, crazed and dull and needs to be done to the quality of the body.

I was at a Club lunch a couple of weeks ago discussing purchasing a Silver Shadow with the owner . The gentleman next to my wife pops out with he's selling his ' 59 Silver Cloud . All I said was " how much" ? The looks I got from Wifie said enough. I turned to the Shadow owner ( who was agog ) and said , it's OK , I'm buying your Shadow . Now I need to sell my '89 Turbo R . To me , the Silver Cloud is the penultimate Rolls - Royce .

@JSDesign.Hongkong2 жыл бұрын
Anyone who, in any way, thinks that this car is a correct, much less even good, restoration, is lacking in knowledge and being taken for being a fool. “Sand over Sable”? Wrong. It’s the reverse: the upper colour on this car is Sable, and the lower colour is Sand. One only needs to look carefully at the handbook or period brochures and factory photos to see that a myriad details are glaringly incorrect with this car. The “$100,000 restoration” was a rip-off, or it’s a lie. It’s one or the other. That is absolutely NOT Rolls-Royce factory air conditioning - I have all the factory documentation to back my statement. The body finelines and wheel cover finelines are completely absent, and for all that supposed expense, the car has cheap and dreadfully incorrect tyres. Ditto, the tailpipe is incorrect - flanged tailpipes didn’t appear until 1977 with the Silver Shadow II. The front number plate plinth is completely missing. The front interior door handles are improperly positioned - look in the handbook or the Silver Cloud II brochure. The “later Blaupunkt sound system” that is installed is a Kenwood - read the label. The huge gap between the right rear seat squab wing bolster and the side armrest is appalling, and is evidence of incorrect reinstallation. For $100,000, the restoration facility didn’t see fit, and the owner was too obtuse to notice, that the silvering on the vanity mirrors is disintegrating? The Hardura lining to the boot, and the black felt lining to the underside of the boot lid are completely missing! Again: “The objective on the restoration wasn’t ‘how much, but how good’. It was an open chequebook restoration”. Bullshit. It’s easy to get “full documentation” and this expert, who was trained at Rolls-Royce Ltd and has judged these cars internationally, isn’t fooled. “The engine compartment has been detailed to a show quality level”. Really? Is that why the Bakelite cover to the fuse box is missing, and why the trunking, hoses, belts and clamps are incorrect, and why the undersides of the bonnet panels are incorrectly painted? The claims made in this video are appalling, and if the car has sold, I sincerely hope the new owner reads my comments as I’d be more than happy to provide professional documentation of factory correctness should they decide to pursue to matter legally. Facts, accuracy and truth matter. All of which are entirely absent in the claims made in this video.

show quality? maybe to a deaf mute; brother, that is not a show car. The engine has a miss you can hear a mile away...this is a slightly below average example; I have owned 5 of these this doesn't have the original quality as far as powerplant goes. You should be able to get it to idle down to 400 rpm and not hear the : lifters, valves, pistons etc....as these V8s get to middle age things change; piston slap, ticking lifters and other components....if it was rebuilt to original standards it should remain quiet .

@@peteruckerjr, Yeah, I get it. They wanted to build a Stealth/Classic ... which incorporated all of the exterior looks of the original classic, but was not confined by the technology of the era it represented. Thus, it looks like a Rolls ... but performs like a BMW. However, I have to be honest ... I could not muster the enthusiasm to watch the entire video link. I guess I started feeling a bit ill by the five minute mark. It's not as though I don't appreciate modern technology, mind you. I do own (and enjoy driving) a V8 powered BMW, with a manual 6-speed trans, limited-slip rear, big disc brakes all around, ect. ... and when I am behind the wheel, in unison with it's on-board computer; minding the active suspension, and launch control tech, well ... of course, I'm all smiles. But, the same goes for the (different, yet appreciable) all-original Rolls technology, that "transports" it's driver back to the bygone era of the late 50s/early 60s, where one can savor the very best that the period had to offer. Indeed, it is similar to the appreciation that the honest man has for his wife. Admittedly, she may not measure up well, when compared to the air-brushed photo on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine. The point is simply that he loves her for who she is. Yes, he could choose to place the local plastic surgeon on his payroll for a few years, and modify her with breast implants, tummy-tucks, face lifts, lipo suction, and God knows what else ... but, in the end, one is left with a partial plastic hybrid, which looks like something that she is not, and that will never be valued at the the monetary investment required to transform her into the concoction she has become. Ultimately, we not see the matter from the same perspective, but I have done my best to describe why I feel these cars should remain as "original classics" and not hybrid monsters.😜
