Lovely thanks for this. My heart breaks to watch it though..comparing to 2021...

Sad. Just googled the village: the convent was closed in 2016. Both schools now closed and amalgamated into others. This year ONE secular priest will be ordained for the whole of Ireland.

It sad. People have judge the whole Catholic Church based on a few horrible actions of a small number of church officials. Yes that was completely wrong but all the nuns and priests shown here and the majority of nuns and priests in Ireland are or were hard working people who asked for nothing in return apart from the love of god. It’s sad.

So this was the country where I was brainwashed! Note the segment with the three young women are being questioned by the priest, "yes father, no father". Total subservience!!! How times have changed, and for the better.

@@northstar9351 yeah compared to the MILLIONS of lives that the church has saved. When Ireland first got independence from England in 1922 up until the 80s the Irish government had no money at all. So the country had to lean on the catholic church in order for Ireland to sustain and survive. It was up to the priests and nuns to educate the people of Ireland during this time of poverty. The government had no money to pay them, so it was all down to the Catholic church to make sure that Ireland kids has some form of education when its government couldn’t afford to. Or also during this time it was down to the Catholic Church to run the hospitals, the nuns worked night and day to care for the sick in the hospitals while the church also had to pay for that. Or weather it was during the irish potato famine of the 1840s killed thousands as the country starved surprise surprise, it was down to the church to feed the population the best they could. The nuns and priests often went starving so they could feed their community. Or the countless lives irish nuns have saved in Africa during the thousands of missions they have done, also paid for by the church. You’re all happy to take and take and take from the church when you need it. Weather it was education, hospitals or charity’s these were all left down to the church and they did it without asking for anything in return. Yes the Catholic Church made some mistakes with the mother and baby’s homes but that does not cancel out the great work the church has done in Ireland. The nuns and priests did the best with what they had got. They church kept the country running when it had no money to do so itself. . Yes it wasn’t perfect but they did their best with what they had. You try providing education, healthcare and funding in a country with mass poverty and unemployment.

@@nick-her9275 plenty of great priests and nuns for sure, but the problem is all the abuse over generations was ignored and not acted upon by the churches hierarchy, to protect the reputation of the church, it’s power and wealth. This was the priority of the Catholic Church, not the well being of the huge number of children and women whose lives they destroyed!

It was homosexuals who did they abuse, not the catholic church. Some people tried to hide that.

@@geraldneary1948I think it is one of the most beautiful short films I have seen. It shows how people put God first in their lives. As to the mentions of corporal punishments; can we be clear that in almost every school until the mid-1970s there was corporal punishment. I went to a strongly non-Catholic (anti-Catholic,in fact school) and there was plenty of severe corporal punishment from both the masters and the Head Boy, so let's not link it with the Catholic church or religion.
