1963 Bobby Charlton vs Everton A (FA Charity Shield)

FA Cup winner Manchester United got smashed by Everton. Bobby Charlton played bad match from his standards despite showing fine skills sometimes. He was mostly harmless around Everton's goal line. Everton sweeper Gabriel played great match against Charlton with great defensive effort and winning goal.

Amazing the different crowd reactions back in 1963 .. as to now days. And that was clips of the game in a full up classic Goodison Park Home of the Champions Everton.. how fantastic. Then beat Manchester United 4 v0 to win The FA CHARITY SHEILD. AND IT MATTERED..

Camera in on the "main stand" side although it was rebuilt in 1970. Acŕoss from us, the bullens road stand. On our left, the gwladys street stand. Both of those survived untill the 2024/25 end. Then the club move to the new stadium for 2025/26. Good luck.

@@henryb160 the Charity Shield was just a glorified friendly. Some clubs were just a bit more advanced in their preparations than others at that time.

Watch BBC sport news and trailers for upcoming matches. It always shows Everton conceding. Without fail. Liverpool has trophy hunting fans in everywhere. Why are we expected to believe referees and VAR operators to be any different. I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist but it's out there for anyone to see.

A biased edit of the game. All about United but Everton thrash them 4-0. Fair play to Charlton. He showed us he was 2 footed. Right, naturally, but did a fair bit of passing and movement with his left. In an age now when a left footed player has nothing else and can look ridiculous trying to control a ball with his left that would be better performed with his right Charlton was ahead of his time.

In one of the first league games in 1963-64 season during the Everton v Spurs game, the Spurs goalie Bill Brown reported that a dart was thrown at him from the Gwlady's Street terracing. As a result the FA held an inquiry, and ordered Everton the put a scaffold barrier behind the goal. to distance the crowd from the pitch in the central area. This was soon erected and was later replaced with circular ramps at both goal ends, that were evident during the World Cup 3 years later. The raised were not put in place for the World Cup in 1966 They did however, give the ground an aura of space like the old Wembley. I watched many home games in the 1960s at Goodison

Wondering why United were in their away kit? I thought that changing kit when there was no colour clash was a modern thing?

United were in their away kit because the second half of the game was live on TV, and in black and white it was difficult to tell the teams apart.
