I had redone a 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Futura two door Ht., first year hard top, no door post . I won one first place trophy and a second place trophy at a couple of local car shows in southern Illinois in 1989, while in college. The automobile's color was wibleton white and red vinyl interior, had a leather look to it. I also installed new loop original Pyle carpet in the car. The automobile averaged 26 mpg. Highway and 23 mph. in town, very economical !!! I enjoyed your video on his Falcon Futura. Kevin Phoenix, Steeleville, Illinois.

My Dad was not a car guy, but he loved his Falcons. He had a 1960 black 4 door, a 1962 black 4 door, a 1964 maroon 4 door wagon and a light blue 1968 2 door...all of these were the most "stripped down" versions available. None of these cars made anything even close to 100 hp. When the all new "63 and a half" Fords arrived (including the V8 powered Falcon Sprint), my Dad took notice. One Saturday morning, he and I went down to the local Ford dealer and actually took a bright red Sprint hardtop out for a brief test drive. By the smile on his face, I just knew he was going to buy that car...and all those years of riding around in "plain Jane" and terribly slow Falcons, would soon be over. I would be getting my learner's permit soon and driving a new Sprint would do wonders for my social life. Sadly, it was not to be...after spending what seemed like an eternity with the salesman, Dad and I walked out of the showroom in total silence. On the way home, I asked him what happened with the salesman. He cleared his throat and said tersely " too much money...bet they probably get lousy gas mileage too". Years later, long after I'd left home, he bought a brand new (and fully loaded) LTD with a 4 barrel 390...evidently gas mileage was no longer a concern.

Back in 2004 for the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang, Lee Iacocca was on Jay Leno's KZbin channel and they were discussing the origins of the Mustang. Iacocca mentioned that Henry Ford II was disappointed in how Falcon customers were not loading up their new cars with enough options (this beautiful restored example is an exception). One of the goals of the Mustang was to motivate customers to order more options than on the Falcon and bring increased profit. Ford's marketing department only expected 100,000 annual sales of the Mustang, so that is why the Mustang was heavily based on the Falcon. The 1960 Falcon was one of the most important cars every introduced by Ford because so many future cars were based on it: Comet, the 1962 Fairlane and Meteor, Mustang, and the Maverick. Falcons from 1960 to 1965 have really appreciated in recent years....even plain Tudors and Fordors. For a long time they were all considered throw away cars and were cheap to buy because most collectors favored the Mustang. BTW, your camera has high quality resolution but your recording bounces up and down as you walk...would you consider using a tripod to keep the frame steady?

All Dennis needs & again he seems like a ace of a guy, a matching Hawaiian Turquoise Shirt, Panama Hat & cruising around Miami. Ford Australia introduced a similar looking Falcon here in Australia about 1963. We had the XM then the XP Falcon. The hardtop's are very popular where everyone drops 302 V8 Windsor into them. The XM & XP only came as a 6 cylinder here in Australia. Beautiful tropical colour reminds me of the great TV show Miami Vice. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

LOL. Giving a Falcon the name of the pre-batmobile 1955 Lincoln Futura! Cool ! The future drivetrain of the Sunbeam Tiger and the first Shelby Cobra, both with only 2-barrel carbs. I've heard that carroll Shelby was instrumental in the development of the Ford 260 V8. Also the future V8 drivetrain of the forthcoming Mustang. The Falcon Sprints were cool with their bucket seats and console. Sort of a mini-T-Bird! Yep, that's what I grew up with, the steering column-mounted registration. Truly beautiful Falcon, and so wonderful to be able to experience as if driving out of the factory, and a rare model at that!! In Australia (we never got this model) the hood scoop had a chrome Falcon on certain models, including my grandfathers immaculate four door in Broadmeadows green (Australia had names like Koala grey, Waratah red, Wattlebark tan and Pacific blue) I inherited that car, but left home and mum sold it for $600 in mid eighties. They just were not worth anything at that time. Now if you find one in similar condition they are around 27 to high 30 thousand.

This is the car that got me started. My parents bought a new '63 Futura also with the 260, but it had a 2-speed Ford-O-Matic in it. My father taught me how to change plugs with this car. Little did he realize how that contributed to my eventual carcosis, and why I never had a wife and kids. They traded the Falcon in on a new Mazda in 1972, despite me begging them to give me the car for my 16th birthday. I ran away from home and never talked to them again.

Hi, Lou! The Ford Falcon debuted for the 1960 model year, along with its Big Three competitors, the Chevrolet Corvair and Plymouth Valiant. The Falcon was the best seller by far, but the Futura that was added for 1961 was Ford's response to the success of the sportiest Corvair, the Monza. As you guys mentioned, the Falcon hardtop was a mid-year addition in 1963, along with a Galaxie hardtop with a similarly sporty roofline to go with the one with the formal Thunderbird roofline. Much of this had to do with racing. This Falcon looks fabulous in that Tropical Turquoise shade, and it really seems to fly, much like an actual falcon! The association with Peanuts had been part of the Falcon advertising campaign since the car's introduction. BTW, I just received the latest issue of Reminisce magazine, which reminded me it has now been 70 years since Peanuts first began to appear in the newspaper comics. It's been my favorite comic strip ever since I was a kid. This video's got me trying to think of other cars named for birds. There's the Plymouth Road Runner, Buick Skylark and Skyhawk, Studebaker Hawk and Lark, AMC Eagle and Willys Aero-Eagle. There's also the Thunderbird, although that's not a real bird. If I think of any more, I'll let you know. Anyway, thanks, Lou and Dennis for another fun ride! I'll be back for more!

Best looking Falcon! We had a ‘65 Futura when I was 11, but the ‘64-‘65’s were very square and boxy. The ‘60-‘63’s had rounded edges and just looked better to me. By the time I was in college in ‘72, one of my frat brothers bought a well-used ‘63, similar to this one, except with bucket seats and automatic.

A Mustang with a grownup's body LOL. The first-year Mustangs had the same engine. Truth be told I'd rather have had the Falcon Sprint than the first-year Mustang. Back in my rowdy youth, I helped a friend take a 6 cylinder out of one of these and drop in a 289 V8. Either it didn't want to fit or we didn't know what we were doing (very likely) because it gave us fits but we got it done. Nothing like a little on the job training for a teenager LOL. Great video Lou thanks for sharing this frisky little bird with us.

My dad had a White 2dr Futura and a Blue 4Dr Falcon in the late Sixties, early Seventies. We took the Blue Falcon to visit my Nana in Boston around 1969 and my sister and girl cousins were bossing me around at the park, so I took off on them and got hopelessly lost. Some older kids were playing street hockey and asked me why I was crying. I told them what happened and they said I was going to get put in an orphanage, like in Oliver. Just then I see the nose of the Falcon 'round the corner and I told them "I'm not going to an orphanage, there's my dad!" I ran to the car knowing I was going to get something to cry about, but when we got back I could tell everybody was just relieved they found me. That Falcon lives on in my memory some 50+ years later...

The owner mentioned that it's like a mini Galaxy and it really does. My family also had a 63 Galaxy 500 XL and that was a cool car too, but my Mom didn't really like it because it was too much like a "HotRod", of course me being a young teen I loved it and I think my Dad was a little sick when he traded it in for a 66 LTD Brougham, a little more like a family car, it too was a nice Car.

Just a beautiful car Lou!! Always been a fan of these early Falcon Coupes. The Australian ones were very similar - except we didn't get V8s back then - not til 1966. I have to say the Australian 64 & 65 models were a bit more attractive though. This example you're showing is stunning!! Tiger.

That lightweight car doesn't need a big engine the 260 has more than enough power especially with the 4 speed transmission. Most Falcons came with the 144 or 170 six cylinder engine and the three speed manual or the two speed automatic transmission. You could think of this one as a predecessor of the Mustang since they were very similar mechanically. GM and Chrysler introduced small block V8 engines into their competing cars around the same time.

Lovely car, we never got V8s down under in the early falcons, from 67 on we did. Ours had to have extra metal put into the frames and heavier ball joints to stand our roads at the time. Australia made falcons till 2016, many incantations, they were very popular here. Now the DOHC Barra engine is a legend, a great grandson of the old 144, it came a long way form 1960.

Nice car, and in mint condition. The Falcon was made in Argentina, believe it or not, for almost 30 YEARS !!, from 1962 to 1991 with basically the SAME base, with changes in the interior and different front and rear lights and many front grils, so you can guess that it was an inmensely popular car. The only model not available was sadly the coupe, and only with 188 and 221 CI six cylinders.

Love this color and car. Today, I have a 65 Mustang 2+2. If I had a big garage, I'd have a Sprint too. Ford didn't seem interested in keeping the Falcons competitive.

My first car I bought in 69' was a 63' Falcon Futura convertible. Mine was Oxford Blue. I had a 170 CI 6 cylinder with a three speed manual column shift. I never saw any 63 Falcon that didn't have backup lights I am a little surprised to see this one without them, I almost want to say whoever restored that car made a mistake there. Speaking about the color, a Ford salesman showed my dad and me a brand new 1965 Galaxie 500 that was that color and he said it was called Robin Egg Blue. It was the only car I ever saw that color until this video.

A nice example of a Falcon of the period, and the dual hump dash board spices it up in a way that seems rare for that line of cars. This one seems upscale compared to most I remember having seen, which never impressed me much. I'm also surprised to see from your engine shot, that DC generators were still in use at that time, as I thought they had already been replaced by alternators by that time. Thanks for the video and to Dennis for showing the car.

Lou. Thanks for featuring this Falcon. I use to own 2 Ford Falcons. A 1962 2-door, which of course had the 170cid Special in it? And a 1969 4-door, that was sort of special, as it had a 302cid V8 in it. So obviously it would burn rubber with ease. Unfortunately, I no longer have either. Wished I did though.
