modern paint on cars today is def way better than the factory paint back then. since then newer methods like clear coating helps makes the paint shine and keeps it protected, which they didnt have back then.

From what I've seen clear coat works, until it doesn't. If it does fade, it doesn't go well.

I hope whoever bought it didn't have it converted to automatic! Changing to floor shift is not so bad, especially using a Hurst. Myself I'd keep the six cylinder and three on the tree.
