🇺🇸👍 I’ve been watching you pretty much from the beginning, because of the sanding lines they act as rivers and the paint can flow under the tape leaving you the lines as you described. You definitely need to need to use the backside of your fingernail and really push the tape into the metal once you have it all laid out. Because metal is porous and touching it will cause discoloration from oils and dirt transfers from your hand , I would seal it with a satin clear coat. I would have sprayed the black line in a lot of extra masking but well worth it in the end. Their are no shortcuts for perfection what you have done looks good but you yourself was picking it apart, I’m 66 years old been there done that to myself on many things. The blue on the emblem I think I would have mixes a tiny bit of white into it. I live in Colton CA now grew up in Lakewood, I look forward to seeing your car when you get to that point. Keep on plugging away when finished ( they never really are ) you can be proud of it because you did it. 🥩🍺👍
@OmarRamirezGalaxie3 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks man. I think in the future I’ll redo the lines, a couple of things come to mind with this piece. So I’m sure I’ll do some changes before it goes on the car. Lakewood is really close to me haha

That turned out really nice Omar! I've painted some exterior emblems by taping them off and spray painting them. It's a pain to do. Yours look really good especially for brush painting. That bare aluminum will need some protection over it, maybe some wax. I don't think it's too crucial in interior parts but especially if someone wanted to redo the grille it would need to be waxed once a year or clearcoated without the anodized layer.
@OmarRamirezGalaxie3 жыл бұрын
Very true, I’ll definitely keep it coated!

looks great! My aluminum trim is a little oxidized but not pitted like yours. I know you had to sand a lot to smooth out those pits. Perhaps - spray painting the black trim, although harder to mask, would have given you more of the finish you were looking for. Painting it with a brush requires a heavier coat that allowed it to bleed past the tape. I also think some might have peeled off when you removed the tape as the aluminum is probably not the most favorable surface for paint adhesion - still turned out great!
@OmarRamirezGalaxie3 жыл бұрын
Haha you’re completely right, I had to do several coats which I think made it bleed through. I think for now it still looks pretty good but in the future I might redo it.
@marvinw88333 жыл бұрын
Great job Omar. I recently did a set of stainless hubcaps and noticed a similar black stripe that they put on it from the factory. I redid it using matte black car wrap foil. It´s adhesive if you use a heatgun and will fit right into that trim piece. Once it´s in position you need a sharp blade and cut the stripe out. For the side facing into the center of the trim you could use a ruler or such to get perfect edges without using paint
@OmarRamirezGalaxie3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information! I’ll look into that, I think an adhesive would’ve been better
@RoninDosho3 жыл бұрын
Nice work and of course it’s a learning curve. I did a lot of work on aircraft, boats and motorcycles especially working with aluminum. While I might have spray painted those lines, because brush painting never dries as evenly as spray, I have to admire your willingness to go for it, and damn if it doesn’t look great. Especially those badges. On larger custom projects I used something called sticky back paper. Which I found to be better than masking tape. Awesome video 👍🏼

Looks great, but I used plastic model paint on gas door emblem of my 63 years ago and it didn't hold up. Ended up spraying auto touch up paint into a bottle cap and brushed it on when I re did it.

Thanks - never tried EASY OFF for removing anodize. Next time try painting your Galaxy 500 emblems with a tooth pick. Also you need to protect that bare aluminum with some non-yellowing clear paint.

I was wondering if you could help me out. I currently have the dash out of my 1964 Galaxie, and I was wondering how you took the cable off for the passenger side air, and got the trim off. I can't seem to get it off, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions. Also how did you get the glove box emblems off, and are you able to put them back in once you have taken them off. If you could help me out that would be awesome. Thanks!
@OmarRamirezGalaxie2 жыл бұрын
The passenger side air cable is pressed on to the bezel, so only way to take it off is to remove it from the heater box side. Check out my video on removing the dash. The emblems have a small cone shaped ring that when you press it on it stays attached. Hope that helps!
