One thing I miss is the simplicity of the older cars. Easy to work on, most were built to last, and they got the job done. I haul new automobiles for a living and even though they are built lighter, they are extremely more complex. The older cars were more fun to work on. Easy to work on and it was a relaxing, peaceful enjoyable past time. I found the battery was dead on a brand new (2020) explorer so i had to jump start it. By the time I located the battery (it's under the windshield cowling passenger side), got all the covers off, started the car, and put everything back together, I had decided that I would never buy one of these. If anything broke the time involved just to get to the part that failed would turn into massive amounts of money (remember, dealers charge around $110 per hour). I'll just stick to the older ones. Oh, by the way, I love the way you teach on this channel, thanks Pete.

That’s the easiest tank change I’ve ever seen done. Gosh bring back the 60’s and very early 70’s cars again PLEASE.

Pete , a real common problem in early Mustangs in getting the fuel up front is a fuel line crush spot where as a mechanic would jack up the vehicle from the side crushing the fuel line that crossed over the frame that connected to the floor support on the drivers side .
@PetesGarage4 жыл бұрын
That is true, I looked at that, thanks

Good advice Doug, thanks. I think that if you don't read the comments on a video you're missing out on a lot of Good information.

Yikes. I recently jacked my Mustang up the other week and now it won't start. Wondering if this might be the issue.

Pete can you do a video on handbrake cable setup for a 1969 Mustang, the aussie Ford Xw pretty sure shares the same horse shoe type setup.

Pete, I have a 1968 Mustang 289 with a leaky 2V, I am going with the Holley Sniper 4150, they said to get the in tank fuel pump so I don't have to change the tank. At an additional $250, do you think the Holley Tank for EFI would be worth it? I hate spending the money twice. You have some great videos Thanks
@PetesGarage4 жыл бұрын
The in-tank pump will be much quieter. That system will work great for you

The exact same thing is happening with my ‘65 Falcon! Broken fuel gauge and the engine randomly dies on me even though I just out fuel in the tank… was thinking the issue was carb related, but now I’m planning on replacing the tank and getting a new carb

I own a 1990 Mustang G.T 5.0. Its been in standstill for 10 years because of a transmission issue. Im planning to flush all the essential parts to start the car. My question?? Do you recommend to change the fuel tank system and pump? Another question?? What causes a 2003 Chevy cavalier to jerk at 4000rpms in park? Thank You!
@PetesGarage4 жыл бұрын
I'd clean out the fuel system, run fresh gas through it. No idea on the Cavalier
@Deucealive753 жыл бұрын
Best thing to do is not run it at 4000 RPM in park.

I know this is an old post… I’m going to have to replace the tank on my 68 ‘vert. It’s been sitting way too long and gas has gone bad. REALLY. Stinking .bad. Carb is being overhauled. New filter at carb. New fuel pump. I’m going replace tank before installing rebuilt carb. I love the way you put the caulking/weather stripping on the tank instead of the tray, like everyone else. I’ll do that! One more thing… you have a gas filter PRE fuel pump. I’ve been told that’s not a good idea, though I don’t see why. Thoughts? I have a metal filter installed into the carb inlet. Should I do both? Thanks!
@PetesGarage18 күн бұрын
Filtering fuel before the pump will prevent anything from puncturing the diaphragm
@Trvlrxxx18 күн бұрын
@@PetesGaragethat’s my thinking. I don’t know why I was advised not to do that. Recommendation for pre pump filter for 68 200-six please?

Weather stripping

I knew a guy who repaired gas tanks by fixing holes, cleaning rust out and adding a liner. That was about 30 years ago so sure no one does it anymore.

That would work, but they are pretty cheap
