Guy's really proud of his 65 Bonneville. It's a beauty. I love Eldorados, Riveras and Tornados but for an every man's car you can't beat the old Pontiacs for pure beauty and a sweet ride.

Lou Costabile Hi Lou, thanks for your reply! I've always liked Pontiac's, but then again, anything American Made. In My Opinion, Pontiac's build some of the most Beautiful Cars of all The Big Three! My favorite beside yours', is the '65 GTO two door hardtop with the "Tri" set up. I think the Engine was a 389, with a Hurst Shifter? I could on-and-on, but I'll save the rest for later. I'll subscribe to your channel as well! Thanks again Lou, and we'll talk soon! Good Day My New Friend!

Beautiful car, my father had a 65 but it was a 4 door ht. It just had the standard stuff, 389, 4bbl, pwr steering, brakes, automatic and that's it. It was the same color, but it had rocker panels on the bottom all around, and rear wheels fender skirts, I think the 421 tri power did not have the panels and skirts, I always thought they made the car look more classy. I think his Bonnie was rated at 320HP. He loved that car so much, I think he waxed it every Saturday when he did not work, it got so it was impossible to sit on the fenders because you would just slide off, and I believe the paint on the upper fender ridge was beginning to wear off, he even waxed the baby blue engine valve covers, wow, I feel like crying now.................................

I had one. It was my first car. It was a hand me down from my dad. I was very happy. It only had one failing. Brakes were terrible and heated quickly. You got exactly one stop from speed, so if you didn’t use low range after that your next turn will be exciting. It takes a long time for the drums to cool. That’s why there’s not many left.

The eight-lug wheels were available from the 1960 model year through the 1968 model year (9 model years). While they were no match for disc brakes, they certainly were state of the art as far as factory drum brake setups went. In my opinion, the 1963-1964 Buick Riviera, the 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix and Bonneville, and the 1965 Oldsmobile Starfire were the most beautiful cars built after 1940 and maybe of any era. I didn't understand the designation Catalina - Bonneville on the build sheet. In the late Forties and early Fifties, "Catalina" was Pontiac's name for all of their hardtop cars, like Holiday for Oldsmobile and Riviera for Buick. Later (1959) Catalina became the name for the bottom-of-the-line Pontiac model. Saying Catalina - Bonneville would have been like calling a Chevrolet of the era a Biscayne - Impala, or a Buick a LeSabre - Electra 225. Unless there was some odd internal factory designation, those cars were one or the other - not both. This was a beautiful car. Thanks for telling us about it.

Actually the Bonneville was the top of the line. Bucket seats and console were standard on Grand Prix. The were a $250.00 option on Bonnevilles. The Grand Prix base price was only about $120.00 higher than a Bonneville. A Bonneville equalized with the bucket seat and console options exceeded the price of a Grand Prix. Furthermore Bonnevilles were available in pricier convertible and wagon body styles that exceeded the price of a comparably equipped Grand Prix.

The Grand Prix was actually less expensive than a Bonneville when the Bonneville was equipped with optional bucket seats and console. The Grand Prix came with buckets and console as standard. The Bonnevilles were also available in pricier body styles like the convertible and wagon. Let's not forget the optional $158.00 Brougham trim option available on the 4 door hardtop which of course was unavailable on a Grand Prix in the mid 60s.

@@larryhawkins3294 Thanks. When I was 11 and lived in Chicago, my parents bought a brand spank-in new '64' Red Grand Prix. What a beautiful car! They only held on to it for a couple months and then took it back a traded it for the Bonneville. I guess it was just too impractical for our family. To me, the Bonneville wasn't near as nice as the Grand Prix with the bucket seats, dual exhaust, console gauge, and concave rear window. That was an eye catching car. A few years later they traded that in on a '68' Bonneville Brougham. Now that was a great car. I got to use it for dating when I wasn't in my hand-me-down '65' Mustang. Sure miss the old 60s automobiles.

Those wheels are actually the brake drums and first introduced in 1962. Those big Pontiacs were very hard on brakes and would eat those drums up. In the early 70’s they were dealer only items and were over 100.00 each. Impossible to find.now! I think there are places that can feline them. They look good but make no sense now!

Clock was positioned all the way towards the passenger...I had noticed it also. I have a 65 Catalina 421 six pack 4 speed manual as well as a 67 Grand Prix convertible 8 lug. Hats off to the GTO's Big Brother.

There is NO 421 emblems on the front fenders or on the console, or under the hood on the radiator and fan cover.

The automatic console didn't display the 421 emblem, only the manual console did. Nor was the 421 displayed on the fan showd...it was on the front quarters though. Please correct me but I'm not 100% that all the 421's had the 421 on the front fenders. Back then one had a lot of choices when ordering...which put a lot of verations, hence his stressing the importance of his documentation. Just placing that out there, there are a lot of variations per how one ordered.

@@robertbeard1230 Yes they did. I have a lot of 65's and I worked and owned Lots of Pontiacs over my 75 years. I never saw a 65 with a 421 that didn't have the fender 421 and the 421 on the radiator support. I wish I knew this car's wheel base. This car is not right at all. Somebody is trying to pass this off as something it is not.

@@kennethrobinson11231 thank you, I just purchased some parts and low n behold the automatic console has the 421 emblem on it...I stand corrected. Now I'm wondering which year the automatic console is that I have without the 421 emblem on it hmm. Thank you for correcting me, I'm learning every day...yes and more humble as I get older.

Hi David Iverson, Glad to read you think this is a really nice car :-) No air conditioning on this one, and back in 1965 seems many times when you had the convertible, you did not have the air too. Seemed the mentality is when it's hot out, you'd drop the top to cool off. Now if it's a FL, TX, CA or AZ car, then you might see the air conditioning option too, Lou

My dad had a 65 Grand Prix. It was top of the line in teal turquoise, black vinyl top. Black interior. I couldn’t convince him to get the 8 lug wheels. My brother in law and father in law both had 65 Bonnevilles. Had stainless on the rocker panels, fender skirts were standard on all GP’s and Bonnevilles. Also 421 badges were on the front fenders behind the headlights, on the console, and under the hood. Standard was a 389 4 bbl. 325 HP on all 3 I believe, not on the Catalina. My Dad’s GP was VERY fast. He wondered why his rear tires wore out so quickly. The Bonnevilles were quick, not as fast as the GP.. Beautiful car, lacking the fine details. We were a Pontiac family for a long time. Great cars.

Hi Carl-Axel Sjoberg, It was 3 years ago, so unfortunately I do not remember. Mecum or Barrett Jackson would probably have one come up for sale once in awhile, then you can find a current price. Also I believe there is a magazine calling Hemmings too. Hope that helps, Lou
