Today, Seiko produces a diverse assortment of professional divers at an incredibly wide range of prices; however, all of them can trace their origins back to the original Seiko 62MAS from 1965. I don't think so! The original Seiko 62MAS wasn't in any way an influential or important watch in the early days of developing modern dive watches. The First Seiko dive watch came 12 years after the first modern dive watches like the 1953 Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, 1953 Zodiac Sea Wolf, 1954 Rolex Submariner and Tudor, 1961 Edox, etc. Twelve years! Seiko was more like, OK me-too. Rolex patented the "oyster" watch case featuring a hermetical seal back in 1926, and they patented a screw-down crown. When it comes to the history of diver watches Seiko couldn't hold the candle to Rolex or Tudor. There is not even a comparison between them.

@@Edward1312 What is your problem? If you make a statement about something why don't you first do some study about it? As I said before, Seiko's first dive watch was 12 years behind legendary Swiss dive watches and still wasn't a better watch and despite coming 12 years later it couldn't hold a candle to Rolex. Not just that, Seiko is considered to be the first Japanese dive watch but I found out that Citizen Jet Parawater from 1962 was actually the first Japanese dive watch and nobody is talking about that and Seiko 62MAS looks pretty much like Citizen. Yes later on Seiko became one of the most influential companies when it comes to diving watches. I have nothing against Seiko, I'm Seiko fun-boy and I own only one mechanical watch, one of the most beautiful watches ever made, SPB053/SBDC053.

Modern Seiko always mess up. 1:1 re-issues seem beyond them. They just don't care. You can tell from the quality, small details and craftsmanship of 60s/70s Seiko that they were once so proud of their products.

Absolutely correct. I've given up on hoping for a true 62MAS. It will never happen. And GS will never release a 40mm diver. Vintage only for me as well.
