Thank you for the video. Question, i noticed the brakes were semi engaged when you rotated the rotor, does that go away when everything is set up?
@superpuncher49573 жыл бұрын
when you first put that cover on I thought to myself "wait your forgetting the cotter pin".

Yeah I got ahead of myself. It happens

Did you use shorter brake hoses when you did conversion?
@Chickeneyegarage Жыл бұрын
I used what came in the kit. I didn’t measure to see if they were longer or shorter

I have never installed floating style caliper. Do you not grease the slides?? Also good call on the curve on the brackets I would have missed that.
@Chickeneyegarage4 ай бұрын
I think I added a little bit of grease but I don’t remember now

Can you just use a pickle fork to separate the ball joint instead of beating it to death? I’ll be doing this upgrade next year, so just wondering. Nice video.
@Chickeneyegarage3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. If you plan on replacing the ball joints then use the fork. My ball joints are new so didn’t want to damage the rubber boot. Both ways are effective
@stevencoughran6115 Жыл бұрын
Charlie, good Video and its,cool you admit you forgot cater key !, you sound like me my lower ball joint I had to cut it with a saw zaw ,it would not let spindle come lose hey keep up the good video ,your teaching me !

Hey,that set of disk brakes,you didn't have the dust plates,behind the rotars, did it not require any?
@Chickeneyegarage Жыл бұрын
The modular drop spindle doesn’t have a provision for mounting the dust shield so it doesn’t come with them. The reason I went with modular spindles is that they don’t push the wheels out like regular drop spindles do.
@stevencoughran6115 Жыл бұрын
Charlie ,did you have to change your center link? My tie rods,fit the new spindle but to small for my center link,do I need a inner for a 66 c20 ? Please adivice
@Chickeneyegarage Жыл бұрын
If you have a c20 I would say it’s different. There might be a tie rod sleeve designed to incorporate the two different tie rod threads.
@Chickeneyegarage Жыл бұрын
I did a little research and it looks like they make c20 drop spindles. Otherwise you will have to convert everything over to c10 steering and suspension.

I see you went with the CPP Modular kit. Can you explain what benefit the modular kit has over their OE/Upgrade kit? Will be tackling a front disc conversion on my '66 6-lug soon. Haven't watched the rest of your video(s). Do you happen to cover master cylinder & proportioning valve / hold-off valve selection and installation?
@Chickeneyegarage2 жыл бұрын
Modular drop spindles don’t push the wheels out like traditional drop spindles. Down side to the modular spindles is there’s no mounting for dust shields. Yes I cover the master cylinder in the next videos. I went with a manual master and a adjustable proportioning valve. I like the setup and have no issues with stopping.

@@Chickeneyegarage I watched episodes 1-4. Appreciate you sharing. Gives me a bit more confidence as I move towards my first disc brake conversion. I called Summit and CPP today. Summit said all kits increase wheel spacing (track) by 3/8" (excluding the Modular). CPP said the OE and Upgrade kits keep the same wheel spacing (track) and that the Modular actually decreases track by 1/8". So, IDK what the heck to believe on that. I'm leaning towards the Upgrade since that kit is based on the '73-'87 dimensions. Where the OE keeps the '66 dimensions. I'm not sure if the '73-'87 design provides better performance, but I do understand that '73-'87 parts are more readily available. With the Modular, I guess you could go to larger diameter rotors at some point in the future (would necessitate 17"+ wheels), but I'm not sure that is a selling point for me. Appreciate the further input. Thx

Did you have to make any changes / adjustments on the inside of the cab (e.g. pushrod)? Thx

does the caliper scrub inside the rims ? i had this clearance issue
@Chickeneyegarage Жыл бұрын
No issues. If you were trying to use the factory wheels they won’t work. I went with wheel vintiques series 62 and they clear stock style calipers.
@squarebodyjay52313 жыл бұрын
You where a little late to explain that you need a jack under the lower control arm for safety and the spring
@ricksteelcustoms31962 жыл бұрын
Did you put dust shields behind the rotors to keep the seal from going bad?
@Chickeneyegarage2 жыл бұрын
Modular drop spindles don’t have mounting holes for dust shields. Would have to use standard drop spindles if you want to run shields but they push the wheels out and I didn’t want that.
@salvadorromero5572 жыл бұрын
Did the caliper brackets come with spindles???
@Chickeneyegarage2 жыл бұрын
Yes it was apart of the kit
