Well, my first car was a 1960 SAAB - 3 cylinder 2-stroke, then my first new car was a 1964 Chrysler 300 convertible, then, for the next 25 or so years I might have 3-4 cars at any one time, changing them like some people change socks...Corvette, Volvos, Rolls-Royce, Imperials, Cadillacs, Packards, Oldsmobiles, Buicks and more lost to distant memory. Gramma and Mama were 'Chrysler gals'. My first car memory was going with Mama buying a 1950 Coronet DeLuxe, then 1954 New Yorker coupe, 1955 DeSoto Coronado, 1958 Belvedere, 1961 Polara,1962 Dart 440 then Mama bought a 1963 Coupe de Ville and in 1968 she intended to buy a Fleetwood but switched to Buick when no one at the Cadillac store would talk to her. During the 2000's, it was a 1991 Isuzu Amigo, 2005 Roush Mustang, 2010 Honda Ridgeline and 2003 F-150 Lightning. I now have a 2003 Isuzu Sport I bought when I moved to Tucson and Mama's last car - a 1991 Park Avenue, which has been maintained with the proverbial 'open checkbook'.@@billolsen4360

Turned out that it became a long-term project because nothing fit or hooked up the same, but eventually he got it in and it was fast and fun. I donated an 8-track player to the project which he hung under the dash. Lost track of him and the car but I now shudder to think what we did to what would be a very collectible car as nice as this one. He said most of them wind up at the crusher. lve never forgotten that and always thought if people back then knew what classics they were going to be more wouldve been saved. They made 1000s of all those models. they were very popular but people back then saw cars as disposable b/c they were so cheap compared to today. Contrary to what an earlier poster said, the engine in this Charger is not a poly 318, it is a big-block. You can tell because in Mopar big-blocks, the distributor is at the front of the engine, while small-blocks put them at the rear. The funny thing about a poly 318 is that it's actually heavier than most big-blocks and, because it is canted wide, it looks larger in the engine bay, though it has far less power. I had one in a '64 Plymouth Belvedere and found it to be a very torquey engine, but not in a way that would win you stoplight races. I thought it was funny how the 361 had a 0-60 of 5.7, but the 383 was 6.3. ;) I love the '66 and '67 Charger because of the cool interior and the Buck Rogers electroluminescent dashboard, which glows at night. As a result of this, my answer to the Would You Rather? question is; 1. Dodge Charger 2. Pontiac GTO 3. Ford Galaxie 4. AMC Marlin Thanks for the vid!

1966-67 Dodge Charger overall body design was "purpose-built" to compete in NASCAR Grand National racing, not like the '69 Chargers that had aerodynamic add-ons, like the flush grill treatment on the '69 Charger 500 with that grill borrowed from the '68 Coronet and the rear window "plug" which contributed to a smaller opening on the trunk, then later adding the full nose cone and wing. Wind tunnel tests were performed on small-scale models of the '66 Chargers and David Pearson drove the #6, Cotton Owens-prepared Charger in NASCAR, in fact, you can see Elvis Presley 'drive' this car in the 1968 movie "Speedway."

Pontiac and Rambler for me. This Charger looks like a fun car; but I've always had more of a soft spot for the '68 and '69 Chargers. Btw, does anyone know the name of the cute blonde? (Asking for a friend.)

Sweet choices the blonde in the commercial is Pamela Austin

Dodge calls that emblem on the grille a 'fratzog'. I have no idea what that means. The 66 had the old 318 which had 'polyspherical' combustion chambers and funny looking valve covers. That engine dates back to the mid 50's, but was a strong engine. 67 and newer has the 318 LA engine, which was an enlarged 273, and also the engine pictured at 2:40. Also a strong engine. The 66-70 Chargers had the absolute best looking hidden headlights of any car. I have a question: do you review that particular car or that model in general. I notice that you never point out any paint flaws, dents, stuff that doesn't work, etc. I liked those Chargers, but the 68-70 was way more muscular looking. Oh, and I subbed after watching the Corvair video from a year ago. I like your channel more every day!
@What.its.like.10 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for pointing that out 318 poly lol I don’t point out the paint flaws or any flaws to leave it to the viewer to discover I shoot these in first person so it’s like you looking at these cars Hoping to drive some this year and that will be a first person experience as well =) I look forward to your input you’ve been with the channel for awhile I mean it when I say this is a community I look for people who have been here awhile in comments =)

They can’t even better gas mileage if you shut them off at the top of a hill and put it in neutral especially with mechanical brakes cause then you still have brakes.. power brakes take vacuum which is supplied from the engine to stop.. If car companies cared about gas mileage, they would make that a feature on new cars. It would save more gas and stop starting your vehicle at intersections.

A single exhaust on a Charger with a "B" or "RB' block engine??? Whatever engine was in it I'd make sure it got dual exhaust. As far as available engines go, I have seen lot's of 1966 Chargers with the 318 V8, 383 V8 or the 426 Hemi. I have never seen one with a 361 V8. I just wonder, when they show the option of the 426 V8, could it include the wedge and the Hemi? I know for a fact that you could get a 426 wedge in a 1965 Coronet. I've seen one. In the 1965 Coronet owners manual, it listed both 426 engines. However, if you wanted the 426 Hemi in a 1965 Coronet, they weren't sold for the street and only for factory-built race cars. In 1966, the 426 Hemi was available in streetable cars, although not so practical. The Rambler Marlin is clearly what Dodge copied for the Charger. But, the Marlin was a Rambler, so it ofcourse had an inline 6 standard, with a 3-speed manual. Overdrive was and option on the 3-speed manual or automatic. If it had the 327V8, the Marlin could be a formidable car. However, any stock engine in the Charger was probably faster. But, both Marlin and Charger are cool and I'd be happy to own either. Oh, the paint finish on the Charger reminds me of an Earl Scheib "Diamond Gloss" paint job. Over 20 feet away it would look OK. lol It has add-on A/C. Any Eastern seaboard car, I would have concerns about rust. And that car has an NY license plate. I'll bet there is rust under those rocker mouldings. Although cars don't generally rust often in California, except if the vehicle have lived on the coast. California doesn't put salt on the roads, so that eliminates that rust source.

As for the paint job you can call it "stripper paint". Nice from far but far from nice!!

You must have those 0-60 times wrong. I used to drive a ‘63 Dodge “440” with a 318/230, and though an excellent and long-lived engine, I doubt it did 0-60 in 8.5 seconds; the best GTO of the era would do 60 in, like, 7.5 seconds. The top speed I could ever get it up to was 107, and it took about a minute to get from 106 to 107. You list the 361 as having a 5.7 second time (no way!), which is an even better time than the very powerful and excellent 383, which you list at 6.3 seconds.
@What.its.like.10 ай бұрын
Here is where I got all the information from it’s all just baseline numbers driver is definitely going to be able to change those numbers a little bit. I had a 2001 Honda Odyssey van that paper said does 0 to 60 and 8 1/half seconds, but I was able to get it to go a lot faster than that. I wasn’t driving it the way that they were driving it, but those are all baseline numbers www.automobile-catalog.com/make/dodge/charger_1gen/charger_1gen/1966.html#gsc.tab=0 The cool thing about this site is it gives all the 0 to 60 times and average fuel economy numbers for all engines and transmissions that were available for that cars and some trucks going clear back to 1945 but as previously mentioned, driver has a lot to with how fast the vehicle is driven. Everybody drives completely different.

Ah, the irrepressible Dodge rebellion girl Pamela Austin ! Not as classicly perfect as the 68, the 66-67 was still a handsome muscular design. Much, much better than the unfortunate Marlin. The elctroluminesent guarges at night are a thing of beauty - too bad you could not get a shot of that. That Dodge emblem by the way, is a 'fratzog' Began use in 62, no clue what it means and reaearch says 'nothing'. They should have put in a pass through for the trunk, woud have been both very novel for the time and much more practical. WYR: Charger, Charger :)
