3m 2000 wet /dry sandpaper, trizact 3000, then 5000 . Polish with a black finishing pad and CSI compound.

I’m a beginner so I have a basic base coat question: when I paint a car, I typically look for the factory paint code on the door jam. When I have to deal with a custom paint job, like the mustang in this video, how do I make sure that I purchase the base coat that will match the original paint at a auto paint supply store? Do I have to take a sample to them, in order for them to mix me a paint that will match? How did you get the base coat that matched so perfectly?

It’s probably a factory color from Ford, GM, Chrysler or another auto manufacturer, so it’s easy to pull up the paint code and mixture.

I had this paint scanned by O'Reilly's tje scanner finds an existing paint in the database that matches. It's worked great when I've had to use it.

What sample did you take them? A small panel, or maybe a mirror housing, or take the vehicle to them and they scan it from the parking lot?
