Very timely video as I just bought this for installation on my Blazer. I would have liked to see a bit more about the different ways to wire up to the AC pressure switch and a possible dash switch to be able to turn on the fans at any time. The instructions that came with this are less than clear on exact situations but I think they do that because everyone's set up is a bit different and needs some customization. Keep the videos coming Dave!

Dave, I am a “Big Fan” of your efforts and instructions. The thermal fan switch that is on or off has to be in the coolant jacket. PTFE pipe and thread sealant sold by GM, is now found in home improvement stores sold by “Permatex” and designed to provide ground as well as sealing. When fans turn on like other components (Fuel pump, blower fan, head lamps) are cold resistance circuits have what we call, “In-rush” current which drops quickly as they operate. It is peak current that does not last long, but also does not blow fuses. Wiring new circuits I use an amp clamp. Many are cheaper and with direct read out. Hook to a DVOM or Digital Multi Meter (DMM) with a “Min-Max” feature that shows maximum and minimum readings. Great product for a bolt in unit. Those using an “LS” swap, can have the PCM to provide GROUND to a relay using un-used ground drivers to ground relays at different on & off off temperatures creating two fan settings. If A/C is used, be warned that OEM 5Vdc circuits are used to run cooling fans. Either way, Brothers provide a great products to keep you cool. Thanks Dave! DK, ASE master since 78, retired.

We just installed it into the thermostat housing. We have another video that we did on a Squarebody that might be helpful too. Do a search on our channel for electric fans and you'll find it.

How many CFMs are these fans? I didn’t catch it if he mentioned it in the video.

do you need to get an alternator that puts out more amps to handle the electric fans?

Question for LS engine: where does the temp sensor go in the engine? Doesn't look like I can replace the digital temp sensor... Do I just run to switch in dash?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV2 жыл бұрын
You have options for activating the fans. The temp switch can be placed anywhere there is an extra port on the heads, manifold or thermostat housing. You could also run a dash switch or just have them come on when you start the truck.

An option for the LS with cooling fans is a relay ground driver programmed into your PCM. There are two common locations that provide ground only to the coil of each relay, so talk to your programmer. The nice part is fan #1 can energize at 185 degrees F and fan #2 can come on at 195 degrees. Both can come with A/C if equipped but they can run until temps drop below turn-on setting and shut of with the key. Just have a discussion about “Your” build and desires first. Use the size fuse to operate the fans on each line before the relay. The relays coil has power from a simple fuse box but loops to the fan switch side of the relay on terminal #30. It is marked on relay as 87a normal on (in-used) and 87 hot when turned on. That goes to fan 1 or 2 and the fuse protects the relays, fan and wires. Great video Dave! ASE master since 1978 - retired.

Because those with no brains do it. I've got the stock four blade fan on mine, and never had a problem. Those electric fans fail and need replacement... my stock fan doesn't.

Can you leave out the temp switch and toggle switch and just ground it. Only rely on the ignition wire to power fans?

Hello Dave, I am writing you from Mexico. I have a 1971 chevy truck, and I am restoring it. Now, I am installing the air conditioning with ac system; I have a question, ¿could you please advise me where is installed the "air conditioning compressor switch", as far as I know, this switch is located behind the glove box; but I don´t know where exactly it must be collocated. I akcnowledge you in advance. Best regards.
