Thanks for the video, it has some good tips. I do hope throwing away the A/C ducts was just an expression as there are hundreds if not more people restoring these cars who would love to buy that duct work to replace the missing parts in their cars.

I had a terrible time getting the switch panel out. I worked at it for a couple of hours trying to pry and wiggle it out. I finally had to jam a couple of wide, metal putty knives on top and below it to pull it out.

Thanks. I've got a 68 RoadRunner that I need to tackle. I had to pull the headlight and dome dimmer switches before I could get that switch panel out.

Thanks for the feedback. Another trick I do at times is, go to a junk yard, find the same car Im working on and do the project/job on that car first. Reason. if something breaks, or things get too complex, I can walk away from it. Also, I pick up, and buy the odd springs, clips, and misc parts I might need when I do the job on my car at home. On your dash board, be careful with unplugging the connectors, especially the main one behind the speedometer, the pins break off real easy. (wiggle side to side and up and down) Then I used electrical 'contact cleaner' on all pins and connectors, and conductive grease before reassembly. Theres nothing worse than putting something back together and getting an 'intermittent' back connection.

So.....what about changing the light out in the Speedo cluster itself? Mine is very very dim .....is there a way to change that also ? Thank you and great video

@@vincegdavis dim bulbs on the dash cluster... You know there is that dimmer wheel on the dash..? Its called a rheostat .. something like that. It is common for those to burn or fail, especially after 50-60 years. There used to be a guy on Ebay, that rebuilds those, or Google it, and find someone to rebuild yours, you probably won't find a new one. This is a real common issue on these cars, an easy fix if you find a place to rebuild yours. Good luck.

Thanks for the video I have a 68 Roadrunner want to workout similar issues so this helps a lot.

Its always the hidden screws, and the uncertainty of how long something like this might take to complete, that keeps people from attempting it. These cars are worth keeping... While you have it apart check all of your bulbs, lube and clean cables and connections. Lube or replace your Speedometer cable if needed. A lot can be done in there before closing it all up for another 50 years. Good luck with yours. Be VARY CAREFUL with the large round plug to your circuit board on the back of the cluster. Those pins break easy... Spray some electronics cleaner, then put some conductive grease on all of your electrical connections and build sockets... IT makes everything come back to life again quickly, without those annoying intermittent shorts.

your video was great and helped me get my cluster removed!! is there a follow up video on how you fixed your issue with the instrument lights? i cant get my instrument lights or high beam indicator working?
@cmscms1234562 жыл бұрын
Be very careful with that pin connector on the cluster. Sounds like a ground issue with the cluster, You could try a secondary home made ground from the cluster to the car. Hope that helps

Hum, why not remove, the dash as a complete unit? Besides, it is a lot more fun working on it off the car.
@cmscms1234563 жыл бұрын
My method takes about 30 minutes, one man job. Pulling the dash you need 2-3 people to handle it, and 3 hours plus to pull it. Plus, ever other system you have to touch to accomplish this, you tend to break things, rusty bolts etc. If you're doing a frame off restro. sure, pull the dash.
