Have a 1967 Evinrude 9.5 Sportwin. Will start with small mixed gas in top of carb but then dies. Getting spark, carb was taken apart, cleaned and inspected for functionality. Mixture set to 1 1/2turn and bowl fills with fuel. What to check next?

Good Vid. When you set the points where should the throttle be set at, or does that matter. I have a 1970 Johnson. New points condenser. Points sent at 20, seems like the timing is a bit off?
@BlackoutBilll212 жыл бұрын
when you turn the throttle the whole entire mag unit moves!! make sure when you set the points, the cam roller is EXACTLY where the indicator arrow is next to the word TOP. sorry for my late reply

I have the same exact motor, it will run at higher rpms out of gear but as soon as it is in gear it will only run about 6mph, I rebuilt Carb, lower unit. Now it’s not only running slow but it’ll surge any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

check your coils!! Im thinking your spark isnt strong enough under load. assuming you did clean the carb correctly!! When you cleaned the carb, did you check the high speed jet and blow compressed air through it? Let me know if i can help further!

Hey Bill.1978 9.5. have spark fuel and all electrical components are reading correct. getting sputtering or bogging down when it runs. Could this just be a points issue? Can't seem to figure this out. Any tips?
@BlackoutBilll213 жыл бұрын
bogging at full throttle? usually thats something in the high speed jet. if its sputtering at idle I would check a bunch of stuff lol let me know Ill try to help best i can!

I have a 1965 Johnson 9.5 motor. It ran good last year. Went to pull it over and it seized on me and I couldn’t get the cord to come out. I put it away for the year. Brought it out and my dad pulled it over right away (pull cord came out). We worked on the motor a bit and then it did it again and now the pull cord won’t come out and the fly wheel won’t turn….. any ideas?

Sure… will the flywheel turn by hand??

No such thing as a spun prop on the older shear pin style outboards. No inner rubber hub just the pin that is designed to break if you hit anything solid.

Hi. Thanks for this video. Working on a 1968 6 hp Evinrude - no spark to one cylinder so we replaced coils,condensers,points and plugs but when we put the flywheel back on it seems to be hanging up or rubbing on coils or something- pulls like the spark plug wires! Thinking the tool you used maybe my answer though. Can you please tell me the name of it and where i can get one for my motor? Trying to get my 1956 Wolverine in the water! Thank you! Hoping this is my answer. Have a good day
@BlackoutBilll213 жыл бұрын
yeah so some of the cheap aftermarket coils tend to rub! that tool was specially made by a guy on iboats forum. Try to search and bring up the topic and you should find it!

I have been working on a 1973 Johnson sportwin 9.5 hp outboard that had not been started for 32 years. It has both coils, and sparkplugs connection lead replaced. And oil changes and a new water pump impeller. But won't start, I have carried out the following So I poured gas/oil mixture down the carb and it started on after many attempts but died out after a few seconds. I have already stripped and clear and rebuild the carb. What else am I missing that is preventing the engine from starting? Lastly, where exacly did you blow under to resolved the needle that was stocked? Your help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

did you clean and adjust the points? hows the fuel pump? that 73 motor... does it look excatly like the one in the video? dont worry my man. Ill help you anyway i can
@aio-ti8773 жыл бұрын
@@BlackoutBilll21 Hi, yes I cleaned and adjusted the point. The fuel pump seem to be fine as it pumps fuel to the Carb intake hose. I am just thinking whether I should take off the Carb and re assembled it again to see if that would resolve it.
@BlackoutBilll213 жыл бұрын
@@aio-ti877 you got it to fire by spraying fuel directly into the carb right?
@aio-ti8773 жыл бұрын
@@BlackoutBilll21 yes and it only started for few seconds whenever put some mix fuel directly into the Carb.

@@aio-ti877 ok cool. so we def have a fuel delivery problem. Make sure that flaot isnt stuck.. primer bulb is staying firm, and make sure youre slwo speed needle is 1 and 1/2 turns out from lightly seated

Do not ever start a 2 cycle engine on starting fluid. There is no oil added to it, and severe damage can occur. Drizzle mixed gas down the carb instead. Happy boating!!

Hey Bill great video luv those toilet bowl looking 9.5HPS .Check out the thermostat cover wrench I made for one on my first KZbin video,LOL. Also just a note it goes under the wire alot with outboard newbies those ground wires on the coils cant be sticking up like that like a roller coaster they will hit the flywheel and cause havoc later on,LOL. They should be pushed down and laying tucked & stowed against the coil top plates.Also check the kill wires arent touching the points cam,LOLL..... You cant be too careful with these things ..Glenn
