Did you cut out the serial number by the heater fan on that firewall and weld onto the new one?

With you like I having past experience in a junk yard I know you have seen tons of stuff like that. You go to move a car and it starts coming apart on you. I once hooked onto a frame section to lift a car to tip it over. The frame section tore out. I found screen and bondo holding the frame section together. It is just amazing how people can do things!

Dave Brittain And with having that knowledge/experience, I have a greater overall concern for the safety of the car. I had actually welded the seat risers in this car years ago. Looking back, I think they would have popped out in a minor collision.

It's nice you'll get the opportunity to make it right. Looks like a fun project and it will be nice and solid when it's finished.

It is so annoying to redo others peoples body work. I have spend the last 2 years re-doing someone else's lousy metal work on my Spitfire. Just like you i have found bondo both inside the cabin and also the underside. No one that are able to make acceptable work uses bondo on such places. It sucks so much. Looking forward for more vid's. Thanks Jo.

Hi Jo daddy. Man that sucks ! Great to see you are willing to go the extra mile for your customer. My 66 mustang is hacked up like that. The more I checked the sicker I got. Wish I could find someone like you here in my area. Thank you for sharing. All the best. Bobby

I tried to translate this. I think you're asking how long to restore a car like this? It usually takes me a year.

Got to put a firewall in my 72 soon. Your repair will be fixed right this time. Good thing you found all the loose metal.

It's amazing what some people do to not do it right. Will be looking forward to this series of videos, great work!

I've seen videos right here on yt of people using body filler instead of seam sealer like that. Some people forget or don't know that filler is porous & will retain water and/or humidity like a sponge. These older cars manufactures were even using lead on some joints but never plastic body filler.
@JoDaddysGarage9 жыл бұрын
jasonmushersee Yeah, but these guys used some good seam sealer, and the bondo was just a disguise. I actually stomped the floor pans out. Wait til the next video....

These videos are great! I'm going to be doing a floor pan in a 69 firebird soon and this really will be helpful. Just a quick question for the group, if there is nothing wrong with the hump, would you just buy the whole pan and cut the 2 sides and replace? By the way, it's a convertible, I'm a little worried about cutting the whole thing out and having the car fall apart! Thanks,
@JoDaddysGarage7 жыл бұрын
If you want to save the hump, just buy the individual pans. Add some strut bracing prior to cutting.

How's your 1968 GMC coming along? Is it completed yet ?? Hey what about a second hand supercharger from a wrecked Caddy or Vette ? Maybe a Sponcer will hook you up for product development &/or endorsements ?? Haha, just a thought!

Lawrence Eich Getting closer. I need to get some inner fenders, and mount the front bumper. Working on having some custom tool boxes made for the bed. I'd love a sponsor... Maybe Folger's coffee....

I think it would all most be cheaper to buy an Arizona desert body rather than trying to replace 50 % of the steel structure ? It baffles me that the Dyna Corn bodies cost $18,000 & a brand new 2015 base Camaro is like $24,000 ? And considering they are built in ASIA ???

It's crazy how I'm as disgusted as you are with what you (the trained eye) found as you dig deeper! Your ethics are awesome and top notch as is all your work! I was shocked but not at your discoveries. Thank you for your videos, your humor and your great sense of not "passing the buck".

Just like buying an old house! You have no idea what happened to it in the past. What was done to it, or why. Was it the current technology of the day? Someone didn't have Ins.? Somebody did the best they could with what they had. Same holds true with old cars. Don't beat up who worked on it in the past.
@JoDaddysGarage9 жыл бұрын
HURLBUT6805 I wouldn't beat them up if this was the only thing. They covered up so many bad things, and packed holes with bondo and intentionally lied to me when I bought it. That's why I had to replace the quarters and tail panel. The tail panel was held on with a few tack welds and window caulk. The filler panel between the rear window and deck lid was held in with 4 tack welds. Being in the business, and seeing so many things butchered just makes me angry.

Jo Daddy's Garage I agree. Would surprise me too at some of the stuff I would find when people asked me to inspect their repaired cars, after they had it repaired somewhere else! Because I was to expensive. I was a ASE certified master craftsman. Worked in the trade for over 40yrs. ,Auto collision. But people wanted to hire someone who had to read the instructions on how to get the lid off a can of Bondo. And save a lot of money. I could go on all day. Bet you could too.

HURLBUT6805 We ran into it many times at our body shop. Guy brought in a nice looking 68 Mustang convertible, and wanted an estimate to do some repairs underneath. I put it on the lift, and I'm glad the doors were shut because the back end was ready to fall off. The door gaps opened enough to be supported by the strikers in the latches.....After I quoted him, he said can't you just cover it up? I plan to sell it....

Jo Daddy's Garage Oh man can I relatr to that LOL I had a guy call the shop one day in a panic, could hear his wife screaming at him in the background. He stated that he couldn't shut either door of his car and they were all packed and ready to leave on vacation. So I told him to stop in and I would look at it. Well he showed up in about 15mins with both doors tied shut. He climbed out the window. And we untied the doors. I immediately noticed the latch in the door was in the latched position and the door lock was pushed down. So I pulled up on door lock, stuck my finger in the door latch pushed the door handle and the latch popped open and I shut the door! Went around to the other door and did the same thing. The doors both operated fine, no problem other then the latches were in the closed position while the doors were open. Iooked at the guy and he was on his ass on the parking lot with his jaw wide open. I told him no charge. He would not leave until I wrote up a work order and charged him something. Ah a great day in the life Eh?

Hey Bro while I feel your anguish try to remember your hands are on a car that's been thru the hands of God knows how many people and lord only knows how many different shop's have had business with this car . but trust me I know I get angry also wondering what was someone thinking . I've seen shit I still can't figure out .. But it's always OUR job to make it right because if we don't we are the Name who last had a hand on the car so our name is the one that's gonna get kicked around .. Yep it suck's because nobody is ever at the shop when we find this shit out ...We just do the best we know how to do and stand by it . My greatest fear is having missed something ..I've had so many guys tell Me what are you worrying about that for nobody will ever see it .. BULLSHIT... I'll know and if I know then someone else can as well so we take the time necessary to get it done right and screw whoever thinks were crazy for spending so much time on something you can't see ...OMG Bro why you giving away the shop ? Replace what you need to get the fire wall right .. Going any farther back then that opens the can for all the potential thats wrong elsewhere bro ???? Dude don't do it ...Go as far back as Absolutely needed to get the wall done right .. Or that can of worms will pour out on you until your in the trunk pan .. You have got to know when to say when !!! SAY IT....
