Back in high school in the late '60's, by good friend had a '68 Road Runner that his MOTHER bought for him! She was too naïve to believe it was a muscle car and thought that it was just a slightly jazzed up Belvedere 2 dr. sedan. This GTX reminds me a lot of that car because they were roughly the same color, sort of a khaki green. That car I mentioned had a 383 Magnum with a 4 on the floor. Plain Jane as hell, but boy would she run!

Beautiful! In ‘68, freshly returned from ‘Nam, I bought a ‘66 Plymouth Satellite with the 426 Hemi and 4spd. Loved that car. I bought it used with about 40k miles, so the original owner hadn’t been shy about driving it. It still had plenty of oomph left in it though, and I took advantage of that!

Man, if there ever was a #1 restoration, this is one for sure. A female employee of ours' brother had one of these back when they were new. His had a 426 hemi with a 4 steed stick. I don't remember the options, but I do remember him punching it and laying 2 wide black strips on the road, indicating for everyone it had posi-traction. I'm 71 now, so I was the ripe age of 16 and already a big car fanatic. I was more of a GM guy, but this Plymouth really got my attention! 😉

Nice car! It's kind of a sleeper. It's got the Hemi under the hood, but, while the looks do suggest that it's more than your average car, they don't scream that it's super aggressive. When he first started it up, it didn't sound as if it was that aggressive, but when you went around back and got the exhaust note and he revved it, it sounded pretty good. My Grandma had a '68 Dodge Coronet sedan that, I'm sure, didn't have a Hemi, but what made me think of it is that it also had the little marker, or as he called them the "Nader lights". Her Coronet, of course, was more of a luxury car than a muscle car, though I would imagine it had a V8 of some sort under the hood as it was a fairly large car. Anyway, that GTX is a beauty. Though it's styling is somewhat understated in that it doesn't scream, "I'm a muscle car!", I don't imagine that, with that 426 Hemi under the hood, that it's any slouch on the road. That's something that I think is cool about a sleeper. At first glance, it's not obvious how special a sleeper is, but then when it takes off from the line or you hear the exhaust note, then you know it's not just your average car. Thanks, again, Lou, for sharing this. :)

Lou:I'm not a Mopar guy per se, but sometimes I do make an exception and this one such case. This IMO is Chrysler at it's best. Talk about an elephant motor under the hood is an under statement. I mean this MUST be the flying elephant if there's ever such a term. Wow with 425hp on tap, this machine will certainly fly. This was one of the fastest Mopars you could get out of the box without needing a racing drivers license. The owner really has a gem in this car and It clearly shows. A.A.A., I would estimate that in the late 60s and early 70s, dark green was one of the most popular colors chosen with 10-15% of new cars sold in that hue. We never owned a Highland Green 68 Bullitt Mustang but we had a 73 Duster and a 75 Fury that were the same color as this GTX. As far as I remember, they had dark green vinyl seats not the two-tone like this GTX. BTW the GTX is a Plymouth not a Dodge.

That colour is very nice and it would have blending in well closer to the evergreen trees for the background . btw that lawn is perfectly cut because each size of lawn has a special way to do it , this had a the basket weave similar to the Baseball fields that have real grass. If I was buying that car I'd only have to see the Lawn as proof that if he cares enough about a little thing like the grass .... that GTX doesn't even need a test drive because it's just as good as it was in the ashowroom in 1968 . Interesting rear section with the same lights as the Roadrunner but the Trunks vertical span has a break it both red lens bars for a rear Visual ID to denote GTX. FORD and GM did that to the full-size cars from the Biscayne to the Caprice and the Custom to the LTD . I stil l say that the early Clay models prototype methods were by scupltors that sketched what the saw in their mind and then formed it . Jacob Epstein used marble and granite that had beauty trapped inside it where he just chissled away what was hiding it. Clay models came about after proffessionals removed all the clay that didn't look like the car.

I'll sadly never get to own a classic (would've loved a 1970 Coronet Super Bee 4 Speed with either the Hemi or 440-6), don't have that kind of cheddar. But I'll enjoy my 6 Speed 2018 Camaro SS until the wheels fall off

Lou this is from 4 years ago so you will probably not see my comment. First rather than your usual question of why this car? How about asking how you acquired it? Then were you looking for this particular car or did you just come upon it. Finally what have you done to this car since you purchased it? I decided to comment because My Dad purchased a 1968 Sports Sattelite with a 383, factory chrome rims with red line tires, and a black vinyl roof. I tried to convince him to buy a GTX but he was having none of it. Lou you find the coolest cars but when I click on them it is with a sense of trepidation.
