sounds so good, I had a new one in 1968, Sliver out blue in, had tac on the steering column, but mine had a Hurst T handle shifter same 383 mag. engine, so loved that car! Wish I had it now!

One of my best friend's mother bought him one while we were still in late '69 or early 1970. He convinced his naive mother that it was just a Belvedere with a few "dress up" items! Needless to say, she knew NOTHING about cars It was a factory 383 with a bench seat and stick shift. From the curb, it looked innocent enough and was factory bone stock. The factory h.p. had been seriously underrated(for insurance purposes, we now know) at 330 if my memory serves me correctly. For a full sized car, that thing turned out some serious acceleration/performance! We took my dad for a "spin" and he got the shit scared out of him when we got to a stretch of open road and he "aired it out". Oh, those were the days.

330 was the gross rating for the regular 4-barrel 383. The Road Runner was given a "335" gross rating.

My family had dual Roadrunners. My father’s electric blue ‘68: 383, A3, 3.23 open, PS, PB, AM, bench seat. My brother’s Vitamin-C orange ‘70: 383, air grabber, A3, 3.9 Sure-Grip, F60x15, buckets, console. My mother drove the ‘68 to her job as a teacher at our Catholic school. They sounded great when they were warming up side-by-side in the driveway! Have only a couple pictures of either one. Never thought to get a pic of them together.

OMG. Just like MY green '68 RR 383. Except for the black accent on the hood & the GTX wheels, looks... & sounds... exactly the same. I bought it a month after I graduated H.S. in July '70 and sold it when I got drafted in Sept '71. I LOVED that car, and so did the ladies:) Wish I still had 'it'. Wish I still had that RR, too... 🤣

My best friend's mom bought him a '68 RR the year after high school(in 1970). Hell, she was naïve enough to think it was just a stripped down Belvedere with dog dish hubcaps. It had the base 383 rated at I think 330 hp. I don't know the rear gears but they were fairly low. It would flat shit and get it!

Mine was white with a blacked out hood. It got TOTALED while I was siting at a red light. Almost got killed because of some IDIOT that was high and driving WAY to fast. Never even hit the brakes for the red light, rear ended me at about 60mph, I put the lady in front of me through the intersection. All I needed to do was make a right turn and drive less than a 1/4 mile to my home. I had JUST finished a true ground up resto 2 months before. It was 1994. I still don't walk right. The idiots daddy owned half of the city so guess what ... Does the name Manafort ring a bell ..... pretty sure he paid off my lawyer to burn me .... yeah, try to PROVE it ... I had a Yellow 1968 roadrunner 383, Mallory dual points, stock gears, Arvin Glasspacks, Delco Air Shocks, Peerless wide tires on slotted mag rims. Went through three clutches always the fingers pressure plate that were breaking from power shifting not the disc wearing out. The reason the stock 1968 383 was so power full was because it had 11 to 1 compression ratio where as most of the later mopars were 10 1/2 to 1. I bought that car with money I earned from my paper route and later what I earned working in restaurants. I had it in 10th grade in High School. I scored all kinds of gash in the back seat of that car.
@omahadave7 жыл бұрын
Unless your 383 was built and you were running against stock 440's your story isn't possible. Just mechanically isn't possible.
@HorsepowerDr7 жыл бұрын
383's NEVER came from the factory with 11 to 1 compression....10 to 1 was the highest n it was down to 8.5 to 1 by 1971

Had em' both. A 68' 383 Roadrunner 4 speed manual and a 70' Challenger 440 Mag R/T Auto both bought new. Looking back I miss the Roadrunner more than the Challenger. The Roadrunner was faster and it handled better.
