Holy **** the tow Guy could of carried the 68 into the garage ....what a nice 68 , unhacked harness , sunroof & pop outs, nice dash , that drivers door 🤯, possible org motor too , wow! Must be fake snow tires , too nice :).

Haha!! He’s a big dude!!! 😂 It looks really nice Jason, in much better condition than I thought it would be. I was surprised the harness wasn’t all whacked out. Usually people turn them into a rats nest. I ran the code on the engine, it comes back to a 68 pretty much the same as the car. I’m gonna have fun with this one!!!

Its getting hot in here! Can. Not. Wait! Your 68 in so much better condition in mine. We have a front clip with damage that carries around onto the front quarter panels. Pans are toast. Luggage area is toast. My 12 year old and myself are looking forward to your future videos! We aren't fortunate enough to have a sunroof, but that's not stopping us. We must have dug out 10 or 15 US dollars in change around the interior as we were ripping everything out.Ours turns. We have dropped the engine. Intake pulled out carburetor brass port. Maintenance shows its a 1600, we will see when we pull the single port heads.I think its a 1500. Don't get me wrong we traveled 5 hours to get her and 5 hours to get home. We are going to get her fine and dandy for my sons 16th birthday. Thanks for taking the time to make your videos!

That is so awesome! And congratulations on your project especially spending time with your 12 year old, those are memories that are being made! Check the code on the engine block. Right under the generator stand. And you can go to my website under the tech section and see what year the motor it is. It could be a 1500. I’m curious to know if it’s original to the car which is usually rare. I’m very excited about this car. When I was 16 my first one was a 68. So this holds a special spot for me. Thank you so much for being part of the community I truly appreciate it. sladesvwbeetle.com

But for now enjoying working on it Slade I think we are alike in we get our most enjoyment rebuilding them and getting them back on the road. Oh I’m definitely keeping this one, I sold the last one back to the original owner, since he is my friend. He was so excited to get the car back. The 68 will not be going anywhere! I sincerely was hoping for a good report on your leg. I’m sorry to hear that it’s taking a little longer. Just take your time and move along as you can, don’t make it worse. You’re always welcome to give me a call, I really enjoy our conversations.

This is a nice restorable bug. I’ve done the “ resurrection “ restorations. These were cars that were sitting in a field with a tree growing out of the sun roof. I’m getting older and not as willing to tackle those type of projects. Your door gaps are good. That’s a good sign of no major hits. I will be following your videos. Best of luck!

Another great video Slades. For the ignition key you could take the cylinder out and take it to a locksmith and have them make a key or you could call and have one come and make a key. I can’t wait to see the progress you make to this one. This is definitely a solid beetle. Also seen you added a bottom portion to your toolbox too haha.
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Blake, I hope you’ve been doing well! The problem is without a key, you can’t get the cylinder out without drilling a hole in the column on this. So I was thankful that it worked out the way it did, which everyone will see in the next video. 😁 Yes!! My wife bought me the lower section of my toolbox. Because I was being cheap, and the shelving unit I was sitting on was coming apart. 😂

I’m not overly excited about a swing axle it will be my first one. I always have had the IRS! I don’t believe I’ll use the engine block but I’m going to do a will it run video I’m curious to see if it will. And I’ll keep it set aside, since it’s the original engine. I’m quite surprised it is much more solid than I thought it would be.

About your keys. Contact “Mark 1 Service” in Maryland. It’s my belief that you can pull your doorhandle off. Find the number on the backside of the door handle. Email the number to this guy, and he can cut keys for your car. Because I believe that the car did not have separate ignition key. The door keys, and the ignition Were the same. Also,… Can you imagine that someone drove this car until that front left tire was that smooth? Ha ha Ha

Thanks my friend, I need to hop over to your channel. I have so much catching up to do. Actually the next video, will show I got the key. I use the code from the door handle thankfully it was the original one. Yeah crazy huh?? that tire is absolutely bald like a drag slick.

@@SladesVWBeetle my channel hasn’t changed. I stopped putting content on it. I’m protesting you tube for throttling. Until things are set right, I’m not bringing my small amount of talent to their site.

Hello, I just received a 68 beetle with autostick from a friend that has asked me to get it up and running. Without going into great detail of all the issues, would you happen to have a video on engine removal with the autostick option? I thought taking this on would be just as easy as a beetle with manual transmission, but I am reading and hearing that it's definitely harder. Any how to's on this? I don't want to give up, but it's certainly unfamiliar territory for me.

Okay now don’t give up!! You got this!!! It’s very similar to what I show on my engine removal video. You will just have a few extra things to disconnect!

Nice bug, Is that an import? Usually from 68 onwards the US has IRS rear suspension

Thank you! No it’s actually not an import. The United States in 1968 if it came with a semi auto stick it came with IRS. But if it came with a four-speed it was swing axle. Unfortunate for me I wished it was IRS.
