Nick, I'm very impressed with the results of the Dyno runs on my 440. The engine made some pretty impressive HP all through the RPM range. Even though the engine is still making power at 5500, I will let that be my RPM limit, and not push it any further. I was impressed with the Torque all through the RPM range, good steady Torque to help a heavy car accelerate quickly. The car will be fun to drive on the street, and at the drag strip too.

Hey Eugene! When we heard your 440 running on the live show last Friday evening, I knew that engine was going to be a healthy beast - you could feel it when it ran. BTW, the AVS would still be fine on the thing if properly tuned - I assume that's the carb that came on the engine when new, yes? I'd also like to see Nick bump the total timing to 35-36BTDC on the engine (440's really like it right about there), but that also depends on other things in the setup of course. Was cool to see the factory unsilenced air cleaner go on for a test, too - and any of us who know about those know they don't cost you much HP to run. Fred the GTX still has his on, of course with the proper "Super Commando" pie tin. :-) All in all, I'm just very happy to see PROGRESS on your 500! Now, when are we going to get together and go raid Roger's place to break the Charger out of paint shop prison? :-) - Ed on the Ridge

@@moparedtn I agree with you on the AVS carb. They are a great carb to run on the street, and it did pretty well on the car back in the day. I have a Carter Strip Kit to do some tuning with once I get the car back in Texas. It shouldn't be too much of a job to fatten it up just a little for a better AFR. Nick tried the engine with the timing from 32-38 degrees, and this combo liked 32 degrees the best, so that is where it will stay. I used to run more timing back in the day but the gas was way better. The engine should run fine on premium pump gas. The Chrysler engineers knew what they were doing when they designed the components that went on the engine. The unsilenced air cleaner will stay on the car with a WIX paper air filter. Hopefully Nick will have the 500 in his shop soon, we are all looking forward to that for sure.

Nick I was glad to see the cyclist pull into your garage wearing a helmet. I don't know what the law in Canada is about wearing helmets. In Ohio it isn't mandatory. I think a person should have the right to make that decision. I also think it is a very bad choice . I received a transplant kidney from a young man of 33 years old who was killed in a motorcycle accident from Michigan fifteen years ago. That is way too young to die . Don't get me wrong I am very grateful for the kidney. I think of the broken hearts he left behind.

I can't wait to see the potential of this engine once you get it all dialed in... I'm surprised at that Carter,, normally with the air fuel mixtures that's got a pretty wide range at least the one that I had did,, the one I had on my 440 in my 69 Newport wagon. I rebuilt it and had a friend of mine that had a flow bench and stock with a rebuild, with adjusting the air fuel mixture I was getting almost up to 1100 CFM...! Now I know that Carter had a couple of different versions of these they had a low CFM unit a medium CFM unit and a high CFM unit depending on how the car was ordered meaning a regular car set up, a station wagon kind of setup if you were going to be pulling boats or trailers or whatnot and then you had the truck carburetor, so there were three different CFM rated carburetors for the Carter AFB/AVS..

I see in the video the AVS still has the raised metering rod covers for the stock three step metering rods. The replacement performance two step metering rods can be used properly along with the performance jets by replacing the raised metering rod covers with the Edelbrock or Carter AFB flat metering rod covers. The performance jets are made for the two step metering rods, so rods and rod covers should be changed to use the rods and jets from the AFB performance kits. The Edelbrock AFB kit includes larger size jets than the Carter AFB kit and their parts are interchangeable.

AUTOMOTIVE HISTORIAN. Who'da thunk it? In 1969 I was 10 years old. In my area of Brooklyn, NY, each of the auto makers had a large "Finishing" factory/dealership. I was obsessed with all cars, but especially Chrysler. (thanks Dad!) Every summer after that I found the finishing factories, Ford had a HUGE factory, covering over 4 city blocks. (The "building" has been cut up unto 4 large buildings, that we're sub divided!) They installed all the optional equipment, including special engines. Chevy, Chrysler and AMC all had a version of the "factory" shops. I followed each of the "Makes". I sat in a 1970, black and gold Hertz G350 Mustang, a 1969. A yellow, "Yenko" 427" Chevy Camero. (Yes, the real one!) A 1971 black 390" Javelin from AMC. (Nice car) As I grew up, I started collecting all the "stats" on the "factory" muscle cars. By the mid to late 1970s and thanks to the late great M/T, I was heavy into Pontiacs. (If you don't know who M/T was you shouldn't be reading this) Little by little (Older and older) People started to search me out to ask questions about the "4 big makes" (No, it's not "big mistakes, wingnut!) I have become a automotive historian. Who'd a thunk it? It's almost our religion. The way of the muscle car will never die. T.

@@nickpanaritis4122 I sometimes think about these things, most of the time I'm recounting the "History" of the muscle cars for the "Young" people. But if this has amused you, Nick, I count myself lucky. Whenever I say "it's ALMOST our religion" I'm wrong. IT IS OUR RELIGION! You know how I end these... Thank you Nick for keeping the faith.
