I believe it used to be when a car manufacturer wanted to have a factory-built race car entered in stock class racing, they either had to build atleast 50(or maybe 500) examples which were sold to the public. This legitimized factory race cars. Interestingly, this car has a floor-shifted automatic. Most of these types of Mopars(including the Daytona/Superbird) had column-shifted automatics. The 4-speeds were ofcourse floor-mounted, but without consoles. If you see a Charger like this, it was a special-order car and was never meant to be raced. I'm surprised that it doesn't have factory air conditioning. Thank you for another of your great videos!

Mopar did this to fight the Ford Torino Talladega on the speedways. When it didn't work, they went for more aerodynamics, and from the 500 the Daytona was born. Charger 500 - mild Charger Daytona - wild. Superbird: the name sez it all.

An even easier way to tell the production date is that head restraints were not required by law until January 1, 1969. Ford, AMC and GM built all their 1969 production with head restraints. Obviously this one was built prior to January 1, 1969.

I was surprised to see this 1969 Mopar equipped with a Torqueflite automatic transmission rather than a manual 4-speed by its "bare bones" exterior. The Copper paint job looks spectacular, along with the matching rims and hub caps. That 426 Hemi sounded healthy, and now that winter is here, your back in indoor venues filming your videos, so no rides for awhile.

Vuuuury cool. My first car was a '68 Charger (hideaway headlights, round taillights) 383 Magnum. I never got to drive that car though... Although the body and interior was minty- the previous owner had started to tear the engine apart and abandoned it. We towed it to our repair shop and within a few hours a customer came in and offered me some stupid money for it. I took the cash and bought a 350 Nova and made some bank. My mom liked the Charger so much that she went and bought a '69 shortly after that. Then 'The Dukes of Hazard' became a hit and you couldn't find them anymore.

As you may be aware a gentleman & now a good friend too Eugene Clark is a owner & a original owner of a Charger 500 that has been fully restored over the last 2 years & abit on Nick's Garage which is on youtube. I'm going to comment on kind of an off-topic matter: I have a thing for cars with 4 round headlights, sure some of them are only what a mother could love, but most/many are just attractive, I assume it's something that must be imprented from the cars in our childhood.
