The rating on the door jam is for brake hp or at the crank. Your testing hp at the back wheel. Big difference. It did pretty good for a old wore out motor.

Funny but the public doesn't know all FE blocks have same bore and crank journals. Just toss in the rods that you desire and tag it. Definitely do a timing chain asa I have seen them running and you could make the chain nearly walk over the teeth cause the plastic come off the cam gear. Plus those chains stretch for miles/LOL I would roll bearings, rings and scuff the cylinder walls with a recreational cam and they wake right up. Try and find the biggest valves that you can and plain the heads on the piston side as well as the intake side then the intake too. It really makes a difference when you up the compression and the timing is tight... go electronic timing and put the points in the glove box and forget them. don't go fancy coil and cap, not worth it good video, new subscriber tonight

If I’m not mistaken, the 390 has about a 1/4” more stroke on it than the 360. Not sure if longer rods/shorter pistons would make any difference in displacement (I suck at math lol) but those old FE’s are great engines. I especially love the sound of the 360’s.

The HP rating was crank HP, not wheel HP. You lose 50-80hp through your driveline from friction and viscous drag. So there was no way that it was ever going to make 175hp on the chassis dyno. It wouldn’t have done so, even when brand new.

The chevelle’s both have a V8 one 502 the other a 283 but the 283 doesn’t fit your rulebook so we can’t count that one. My friend which I share workshop with has four running mopars with V8, and one of my closest friend is just wrapping up his old school flathead build as we speak.
