It is fascinating to me how skilled you are with maintenance and repair of so many different machines. You knowledge is invaluable. Hopefully you are teaching you sons and grandchildren(when they get old enough) how to work on equipment like you do.

Appreciate it. I don't feel like I'm that skilled. I familiarize myself in a lot of different areas and figure some things out. Hopefully the grand kids will take an interest.

Oh! Oh! I had a 67 vw. Oh how I loved it, still wished I had it. My carb used to give me fits. The float would stick so I’d have to get out , take my platform shoe off and bang on the carb so it would un stick and off I’d go. Those were the days my friend.

Love the old slug bugs! My oldest brother had one don’t know the year..too bad new motors aren’t that simple anymore more.
@MrRainCountry20 күн бұрын
Oh for sure on the motor comment. They make motors too complicated anymore. Auto manufacturers and especially industrial applications you can't even get parts. If you can get parts it is very difficult.

My father was a huge fan of VW and drove everything from the Bugs/Beetles, a 1970 VW Camperbus to VW Rabbits his entire life. This little Bug reminds me of my childhood and driving around in those little Bugs with all 3 of us kids crammed in the back seat! Looks like your dad took very good care of his Bug. My dad had 'extra' Bugs/Beetles in his yard to get parts off in case he needed to fix his main Bug he used to get to and from work every day. It's nice that you value your dad's Bug and didn't just sell it like some people would.
@MrRainCountry20 күн бұрын
That is something I thought about. A lot of bugs around with good parts that might not run. You can save a lot of money by having your own little wrecking yard. Heidi says I have too much junk!

@MrRainCountry LOL too much 'junk' until that junk ends up being needed and turns into a blessing in disguise!

I rebuilt my 67 VW bug back in the 70's, it sat in my living room for about a month after having the block welded and cleaned up all the parts. I really miss being able to work on my own car. I helped my father work on his jeep back in the 60's well I handed him the tools he needed but it was fun watching and asking questions. He always asked me to help even thou me being a girl he never held that against me lol

This is like visiting an old friend! My very first car was a 1969 VW bug (in 1996!)!! I learned so much about cars and auto care from driving a vintage car. That car became my whole personality! Even now, when I run into people from high school, they ask if I still have the bug!
@MrRainCountry20 күн бұрын
I hear ya. My very first car was, well, a project car. Ran out of time and money with that one. My dad bought me another finished 1970 bug for my birthday and we sold the project car. The project car had a racing motor in it so probably a God thing we got rid of it!

Right! The newer rigs require one to take it to an approved shop. My dad gave me his 2016 XR4145 LS tractor with 17 sensors on it and a bunch of smog stuff. Very finicky and you have to go through a dealer to get parts.

I actually watched this video all the way thru. Not sure why as I'm female and do not work on engines but I just found it interesting. I have my dad's old 76 Ford F210 pickup truck. Very well taken care of and several men have offered to buy it but I will not sell as it has sentimental value to me plus I do still use it to haul tree branches off and scrap metals to be recycled. However it has left me stranded along side the road several times if I drove it out of town. It would just stop running. After sitting for a while would run again. A neighbor said one cause could be the ignition switch and changed it out for me. Also I discovered it does not always start in park so at times need put into neutral to start. Hopefully changing the ignition switch solved the dying problem but I have not drove it out of town. Makes me nervous Would love to have it restored but not any trust worthy people around this small town.

Sure sounds like an ignition/ bad electrical connection/ electrical issue. Does it run good, lots of power when it is started?

@MrRainCountry No. It acts like it struggles to pull it's own weight
@MrRainCountry20 күн бұрын
@@brendaogle-em7if I would suspect fuel or fuel delivery. Possibly bad fuel, sediment in tank, fuel line, fuel filter, fuel pump, carburetor gummed up or plugged. On the electrical side your rotor and cap might be needing to be replaced?

I had a danged Filter floating and blocking my intake for Pump, on my Corsica! I would stall out for EVERY Left turn! 😂 Also going up a mountain, required a FULL tank, or i end up Stalled, because of the Grade. I was towed so many times? People recognized my car being Towed! They would tell my Mom, Sandra's Car is in the Shop again! Saw it being towed today. I was in another Town! 😂

I'm noticing several anomalies with the car. Dad had different folks working on it over the years. He has quite a bit of money in it. He had the engine supposedly worked over and I can see cooling tin missing, the rear engine seal for cooling is also missing. From what I gather one has to drop the motor to re-install that so I have my work cut out for myself and lots to learn. Thanks!
