Exactly! We used to do test and tune/run what you brung races at US 66 in IL just to sort the car out. Next day we did bracket races and got our times. Very often on the day after that, the track conditions changed and the car hooked up harder, ran faster, but we got disqualified. The FE Big Block Fords were a little before my time, I'm more into the 429-460,s and Clevelands. @@badass6.0powerstroke10 About those Stage 1's ... March 1985 Muscle Car Review magazine. The infamous 1970 GTX Hemi vs. GS Stage 1 race. Man, I was there in G'ville, FL back in Dec. '84 with my '66 Fairlane GTA running 14.20's at the time and saw that classic race. MCR editor Donald Farr (who owned an early Cougar) said that race was put together in less than two weeks for his magazine to "settle a score". These two contenders were like muscle cars you'd find on the street back then. Neither were prepped just for that race. Sorta like just "run what you brung". The GTX was trailered there from Tampa and the GS was DRIVEN 300 mi. round trip from somewhere in Georgia. I remember that the Hemi guys were sooo confident. In bracket racing the driver who runs quicker than his predicted ET looses. Bracket racing puts emphasis on driver skill. There is heads up racing where any 2 cars go at the same time and the first one to cross the finish line wins.

What the hell, that break out rule is stupid. Most cars are not going to run their fastest during their qualification run. So what happened to the minimum ET rule set for all cars in this class? Man, in my opinion, those Buick steel mags are the best looking wheels ever put on any classic muscle car. I used to own a '71 Buick Riviera with those wheels, posi-traction, and duel exhaust. Leaving the automatic transmission in Drive, it would flat out roast the tires in all the gears. Not good for the hole shot at all, but from a 40 mph roll off, hardly anyone could beat me.

It was in May '85 at Bowling Green, KY. The quickest pure stocker there was a 1970 GS Stage 1. Several bad-azz Hemi's, Boss 351 Mustangs and W-30 Olds never got out of the 14's. My point is that a 14-sec. Hemi would also be a "dismal showing". Performances of a given car are often all over the place. A lot has to do with so many factors.

Break out rule totally suck and should not be included in this type racing Buick ever round lost due to the idiotic breakout rules That’s why I quick racing, it runs what it runs
@mitchroberts24573 жыл бұрын
This is exactly why they SHOULD have a breakout rule. It stops sandbagging and creates closer matches for the best of 3. If you don’t have it then most match-ups would be blowouts. And it’s probably good you quit racing because you obviously don’t under the rules.

In Pure Stock Racing cars are paired together for eliminations according to their time trial times. If two cars aren't closely matched, they aren't run against each other. So you can't sandbag in the time trials and then run all out in the eliminations, as that would ruin the show. And this is a show - entertainment - not real professional racing with actual prize money. You want a horse race, not one car blowing away the other. Not sure what happened to the Buick. Sometimes cars will run a lot quicker late in the day after the car and the outside temps have cooled down, and I'd guess something like that is what happened here.

@@theangrydragon182 8:55 of video ... when a car "Breaks out" that's Bracket racing. maybe between 2 cars but those are bracket racing rules also note a win with slower ET by getting to line first because of reaction time Also Bracket racing rules. I've been to some of these Pure Stock /Factory Stock races with all kinds of different rules But in this video if you award a win to a car that crossed second because of Breakout you're bracket racing.
@danmyers93723 жыл бұрын
It’s NOT a bracket race. They just put a breakout rule to prevent drivers from lying about what their car can run which is known as sandbagging. The organizers use the qualifying times to pair cars up for the best matchups. I wouldn’t want to race against someone who runs 1/2 second quicker than their qualifying ET. Would have zero chance of winning.
@turboturd52893 жыл бұрын
@@alfredodirks3537 A breakout rule does not mean bracket racing. Do you see the tree going at different rates on each side? No. Dumb moron this isn’t bracket racing. And what are you talking about? In any type of drag racing a person with a higher ET can win....The winner is who crosses the finish line 1st. Do you seriously not understand that the elapsed time does not start until the cars move? Reaction time is not included? Go back to drag racing 101.

The 428 CJ has a serious disadvantage in pure stock because Ford ruined it with the most awful flowing exhaust manifolds. On the other hand some Big Block Buick exhaust manifolds will flow well enough to support over 500 HP.
