If its the 375hp option they actually had 425hp. Only 4 thousand made . we have one .blue with blue vinyl hard top 410 rear 4 speed munci. Bout 8 grand to restore 1 time owner Vietnam vet . numbers matching . had a lot of 20,000$ offers and always a no. 1 guy was pulling the tarp off and was met by 3 fire arms . he said in sorry i just had to see and offered 5 grand .. I laughed, cocked the 12 and said i should shot you right now for being offended

Hemis deserve tons of respect too. A friend in high school's first car was a 360 hp '65 GTO black/black coupe. That got stolen so dad bought him a 4-speed '66 Hemi Satellite. My goodness what a car that was. Well, he totaled it coming out of a toll booth on the Garden State Parkway. Next on the list was a '67 Corvette convertible, 327/350. All these cars were while he was in the last two years of high school and the first year after graduation. He moved away and I haven't seen him since.

My father r egretted not getting a 1968 turbine bronze colored hemi roadrunner for fifteen hundred bucks in 1972 the roadrunner belong to one of my brother's friends and the water pump went out on it and it's set under a tree on the side of our house for like a month before they came back to get it and he offered it to my dad for fifteen hundred bucks but my dad didn't want it because he did not want to mess with two carburetors and solid lifters he said there was too much maintenance.the car had no options but radio automatic transmission it even had rubber floor mats instead of a carpet the guy who owned it called it a taxi cab special because it had very few options.

I bought a new 70 LS6 SS in Feb, 1970. White with Black Stripes and Black interior. As I recall right at $4,700. Probably the most fun car I ever had. I won almost all of the time but there were a couple times I lost. It was a daily driver so I kept it pretty much stock except for Headers and a different Intake and Carb. As long as I didn't touch the inside of the engine my warranty stayed intact. Sometimes I simply could not get any traction. I had the 3 Speed Auto with I think a 331 Gear. i have always wondered what would this car have been like with today's electronics. My fun car today is a Z06 A8. I have always been an Automatic Transmission person simply because I was not good with the manual clutch. I kept the 70 SS til I had 48,000 miles on it. It had a 50,000 mile powertrain warranty. And believe me this car was in the dealership for motor repairs several times. I simply didn't want to pay for the repairs myself after 50,000 miles. And the final thing was my Insurance Company in 1972 raised my premiums to $1,470 annually. I said no and traded it in on my first Corvette. The 1972 350 Corvette annual insurance premium was $270. Folks, that's what ended the Muscle Car days for me back then... This was a great video, Keep em coming.

What year did you sell it? I had a buddy that loved El Camino's. At one time he had 3, a '68, '69 and a'71. Two of them were SS 396's. The '71 had a cowl hood with a functioning door, black with white stripes. Another friend had two SS 396 Chevelle's, a '66 and a '67. The '66 is my favorite year Chevelle.

I owned it in mid 80s. I like the early models more. After that I owned a 68 and 69 dodge dart GT. I could buy most cars back then for 500 buck or less. I wanted to buy a 69 camero my dad refused to let me buy said I would kill my self. It had a 396 I believe in it, price was 1300$ that was in 1984.

@@1990notch I had 3 '67 4-4-2's A triple black auto conv in HS, I didn't keep it up, traded it cheap when it needed new top, heater/hose, windshield. Got another hardtop with 3MT - found out that was slapped together, before it sucked a valve. 3rd one: I was walking past a gas station (in those days they all had service bays 😆) and he had a beautiful silver metal flake with some custom colors on the sides (don't think it was flames) and the front end parts from a '71 Monte Carlo - including DISK BRAKES. Anyway, I put 1200 miles on it in 4 days, then rolled it up a lawn, landing upside-down. Not a scratch on me, car was totalled...

bought a 1970 red black stripe ls6 454-460 cowl induction m22 4spd. from 1st owner in june of 1977. it had 3.31 rear posi . i drove this car on vacation south on interstate 15 to interstate 80 in nevada n then ran with 6 truckers west to reno nv. at 100-110 mph and i averaged 16.5 mpg. this trip was at about midnight on a saturday night in autumn, cool air n stars....///

A 454 with 3.31 gears at 100 to 110 MPH would get about 9 MPG my guess.. My 73 Chevelle with 2.70 gears and turbo 350 .. headers 1970 64 CC heads not stock 73 75 cc heads SP2P 4 barrel economy intake and spread bore 450 CFM Holley carb got 24 mpg at 55-60 mpg .. My 2016 Yamaha FZ-07 got 28 to 32 MPG at 100 MPH when it was 34 F out recently ..

Worked for landscape contractor back in 1970. He went to buy a "strong truck" for hauling boulders. Came back with a 454 El Camino rated at 450 hp with turbo-hydro tranny. Only got to drive it twice, both times with him in the passenger seat. He had no idea what he bought. All the weight is up front, so, even a light tap of the gas pedal spun the skinny polyglas tires. It was a monster.

I bought my 1970 Chevelle almost 16 years ago, and I vow to never get rid of it. It's not an SS, but a Malibu that originally had an inline 6 under the hood. I have a 350 now, and it currently needs a transmission as I only have 1st and 2nd gears.

No doubt that the 70's were all about having a fun and working hard just to have that fun, 1978 i gave 800 Bucks for a 1968 Nova that somebody had already taken the Hot Water Six out and then cram a 327 Small Block, leaving the 3 on the tree, i won't ever forget when i finally saved the Money to put that 4 speed, talk about making a huge difference, especially having 411 delivering the Rear. All these Rides were only Dreams, i had to be Thankful for what i had, that is what made all the real fun come alive!!!

I remember reading a Car and Driver road test from 1970 on the LS6 when it was new. Theirs had the Turbo 400, and they said it liked to surprise the rear tires with part-throttle downshifts which would break 'em loose when they weren't expecting it. The LS6 was one of the very few cars GM produced that could keep up with a Hemi. I feel sorry for any young buyers trying to insure one at the time, though---I'm sure they paid a fortune.

when I was about eight or nine years old in the early seventies there was not one, but two '70 SS's in my neighborhood. I remember seeing at least one of them leave most of its rear tires on the pavement near my street one day. I was in awe. And to make sure we don't leave out the FOMOCO fans out there, my next door neighbor had a 69 Cougar XR7 convertible. Still one of my favorite cars of all time. I had a lot of rides in that car.

My all-time favorite Muscle car. My former coworker who retired got the LS6 70 Chevelle he's had it since 1988 and took real great care of it. Keeps it in the garage car cover wash and wax it from time to time and only brings it out in spring and summers. Currently sitting at 7421miles. He let me take it for a spin one time I was all smiles that I finally got to drive one. I'm currently looking for one myself. A guy in Arizona beat me to it I was 3 minutes to late when trying to buy one. The guy sold it.

Mine is a bit wider. Instead of getting a newer G37/Q60 to replace my 10YO G37S, maybe with AWD, with ideas for forced ind. BUT, instead I opted for a big honkin' V8. OK, it's only 376CI, but it makes 455HP and 455TQ, in a 2017 Camaro SS. Most powerful & quickest car I've ever owned/driven. AND, after 9/2021, I cam mod it all I want - thinking ProCharger... 😆

The raw torque in these cars was earth shattering even to this day, you literally feel everything. I have a 350 small block that pulls me back every time I hit above 40mph. My buddy has a 396 big block that is absolutely amazing.

Wow Jason, at least you got a 4 spd. Congrats. My first car was a '57 Chev Bel Aire, 283, 3 on the tree. I wound up putting the 3 on the floor. I quickly became an expert at rebuilding the 3 spd to install new cincros. At least once a month I had to do it and from start to finish I could be done in hour and $10 out of pocket. This was 1965. I would have giving anything for a 4 spd. The spd shift 1-2 would kill it every time. Sure wish I had that car back today. I sold it in 1969 for $750.

My friend, you should've got the one you really wanted. When I came home from military service in '68, I wanted a Mercury Cyclone GT with a 390 4bbl with over 300hp. I ended up settling for a '68 Cougar with a 289. Nice car, but just not enough pop. Less than a year later, I decided I was getting some muscle under my rear end and started looking around. Looked at all makes, Road Runners, Super Bee's, Chargers, Chevelles, GTO's, Buick Gran Sports. When I looked at the Chevelles, I just loved the way they looked. I debated on what engine to get. It was gonna be an SS, so, do I get the 325hp, the 350, or the big one, 375. After test driving one, I got the big boy and never looked back. What a car. So much fun to drive. I'm now 70 yrs old and still like driving the muscle cars of today. My youngest son has a 2016 Taurus SHO and Mustang GT and I drive them maybe once a week and it's still fun.

Wow. That car dealership at the very beginning of the video with the Mustangs, and Torinos really bring back some memories. I remember when I was 5 years-old, my dad driving us in his '69 GTO, going to various car lots, looking at new muscle cars like those. I remember my dad saying he didn't like the bright colors of the Lime Green, and Pink 'Cudas, and Challengers, that was sitting on the lot, brand new, with the stickers still in the windows.

Back in the day I had one of these but it was the 396 version and trust me it was no slouch and I won many of my red light to red light races but sadly lost some 2 from a boss mustang and a cuda and my buddy brad in his copo camaro which I have to mention hands down was the fastest car I had ever rode in at the time that thing was scary fast I still believe these cars had waaaaayy more horsepower than they advertised because these things were monsters but sadly he even lost once to a 69 z/28 with a 302 yeah you heard it right a 302 that was an angry little engine lol those were the days,thanks for the vid it brought back some memories.

That '69 302 Z/28 was built for homologation, so it could be used in Trans Am racing which had a 5.0L limit. Ironically, the Firebird Trans Am, with its standard big block, was never qualified for T/A racing...

@@shawnjones7512 mine was my cousin's Black '72. Second was my Uncle's Gold '71. He special ordered it with a '69 Olds color, SBC and M-22 4spd. They wouldn't install the M-22 in it so it came in the trunk😁. These cars were Used cars you could buy all day long when I was growing up.

1970, in my opinion, was THE year for all the muscle cars. The GTO, Charger, 442, GSX, all of them at the peak of their performance and maturity... Even the pony cars; Challenger, Mustang and Camaro were evolving into performance monsters.... Then 1971, everything started changing. I love the early years of the muscle car/pony car wars, but 1970 was the perfect storm of bonkers power, and GORGEOUS, flowing lines. My heart ACHES for a 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 4 speed...even as a kid in the 1980s, to now, it was love at first site.

Back in the 70s, if you had a street car that ran in the low 14 seconds you had a really fast car. Back then racing was a weekend hobby and people would scan the local paper for used speed parts in hoping to make their cars just a tad quicker. Today, that fun is long gone.

And I thought the birth place for the AU Holden HQ coupe was the Oldsmobile 422, the Chev Chevelle SS is the exact birth place. Mine was a 1972 HQ Coupe with the factory Chev 350 V8, what a car and perfect lines. I wish I still had it now. I love this channel.

I think those GM bodies were absolutely gorgeous and the perfect size. I owned a 1972 Olds Cutlass S. It only had a 350 2 barrel, single exhaust, bench seat, but the first time I drove, I was hooked. It had exactly the same body as a 442 and it was all I could afford. I think a mint Chevelle LS6 would be a dream come true. What a perfect car. Congratulations on owning one of the greatest muscle cars of all time!

As a kid (16?) I drove a 64 (66?) Malibu 396 4 speed from downtown L.A. to Thousand Oaks. It was fun. No freeway, maybe 50 foot center divider with Oak trees everywhere, not a house or other structure around. Hey, another story. I was driving one of the main drags in Hollywood when a Charger drove up next to me at the light. He had 6 little roadrunner decals on the upper forward corner of the driver door. An ACE!! I got a kick out of that.

The Chevelles are my favorite cars. My first car was a 1968 Chevelle with a 230 cu. in. straight six with a three speed manual with an overdrive. To this day I still have it, but it has been modernized. New suspension. Fuel injected 496 cu. in. with a Tremec six speed double overdrive. This car is how I learn how to work on cars. It is fun to travel down the road in.

I remember one magazine tested all the fastest muscle cars in a 1970 showdown issue. The Chevelle LS6 posted a 13.1 quarter and the Cuda Hemi posted a 12.9 quarter. Traction was difficult with the Chevelle as well as gear changes with testers commenting "that old Muncie balked".

I drove one, and was encouraged to "really wring it out" , we took out side of town on a straight lonesome highway. From a dead stop I started power shifting through the gears with my foot to the floor when it was time to shift into fourth I had yet to have the rear end solidly behind me; I chickened out and backed off till the back end took hold then ran it on up to 140 where I had had enough. I've never driven anything like it again. It definitely was a freak, truly the Mt. Everest of muscle cars.

i was in High School during the 70's. Everybody drolled over the Chevelle SS. Only the spoiled kids had them, I had a 63 VW Bug, LOL, a friend of mine had a red one with a big camshaft, headers, Craiger Mag wheels, etc.. He burned the tires off it, on a regular basis, He eventually wrapped it around a tree.. Kids !

Son of our state senator lived on the next street. He registered his '70 454 Chevelle SS conv - red with black top/stripes/int - in his dad's name, so he got nifty state senator plates. If a cop was dumb enough to pull him over, he'd know dad was going to get the ticket fixed, and the cop in trouble. Spoiled. And he was good-looking too - driving top-down with the car full of girls. We hated him! 😆

My dad passed away 5 years ago and my brothers and I have one of his many muscle cars, the 1970 LS6 454 4speed chevelle. It does need to be restored but its always been inside and is super clean. All original motor and trans, does anyone know what it would be worth? We have everything needed to restore it, from trim to new GM original front fenders even tho the ones on the car are still usable. Thanks!

Its not a real SS unless you can show a build sheet, no other way to prove it. The build sheet can be found in several different areas of the car. On top of the fuel tank, stuffed in the springs in the back seat, glued to the inside of the passenger door panel, etc.. If you find a build sheet it is like finding as much as $50,000 added value depending on the options your car has. A 1970 Chevelle SS without a build sheet is worth in good to excellent condition, $25,000 to $60,000 depending on options. A real SS with build sheet would be $35,000 to $100,000+

A friend of mine had a 70 LS6 454 he bought from a guy that his dad owned a sandwich shop that i worked at.He paid like 450 dollars back in 1989 or 1990.If i remember right me and a friend we're offered first dibs on the car but we didn't have the money.The one problem with the car was that the next owner had replaced the torque converter and it kept blowing the transmission lines.He later sold it but from what he told me he gave it away.A numbers matching car at that.Thats the way things go.? I remember going to car lots back in the day and seeing cars that went for nothing but are worth a mint now.

Tell me about it. My first 4-4-2 - triple black conv - needed a new top, and I had bypassed the heater the previous Summer, due to a leak. Finally, I cracked the windshield with a PLASTIC ice scraper, so I traded it in on a '71 Impala coupe. I doubt I got $200 for my Olds. What would it have been worth Today?
