I can tell you this car is real. I know for a fact it is because this car belonged to my Dad. He ordered it that way because he was a drag racer. This car sat in the garage next to a 68 Biscayne with a 427 and M22 4 speed. My dad sold both cars at the same time to a collector in Atlanta. The Biscayne only had 324 miles on it.

The SS emblem is indeed upside-down, a feature we noted during shooting this car. However, it would not be the first one that left the factory with such an error. Numerous line employees who built cars during this era have noted improperly installed or missing items, mismatched trim, or other assembly line errors. Interesting stuff!

I love the comments on how it's not real because the SS grill emblem is on upside down, and the stripes are too badly done. I bought a Chevrolet pickup back in the day with a Chevrolet emblem on the drivers door and a GMC emblem on the passenger door. These vehicles were/are built by humans who make human mistakes. In 1970 we were also heading into a time when quality on American cars was in the toilet, that's one huge reason the Japanese car industry took off so fast here. You have no idea how poor the quality on some cars was. Today's cars bear little resemblance to the cars back then in quality, fit & finish. Almost every dealer in the US had a story of chasing down a rattle in a car only to finally find a soda bottle (an old glass one, not plastic like today) hidden inside a body panel. Frequently this was done by disgruntled line workers who were pissed off or felt it would show why they needed more money.
@ceejay9606 жыл бұрын
Which is ironic considering how much GM workers made. Back in the early eighties the story was that GM line workers made around $23/hour. This was when most other factories paid $7-8/hour, a good one paid $10-11/hour, almost half of what GM paid. Back then GM was like the holy grail of factory jobs and really hard to get in to. I don't know if GM was paying substantially higher wages back in 1970 or not, but I suspect it was still more than the average factory. I don't know any of this for a fact, it's just what I've heard.

I ordered a 1970 LS6 chevelle in nov. of 1969.The car came in to my dealer on march the 4th 1970 due to GM had been on union strike..The deck lid did not line up well and the console was not bolted down.It came as I ordered with 410 rear gear ratio, heavy duty battery,4 speed rock crusher trans.The trans wined mostly in 3rd gear due to gear design.I immediately removed the smog system because everytime i shut engine off it keep turning over for a few seconds.headers went on just 2 weeks later.Problem resolved.I was only 23 years old then.Three months later I ran it with the 14" stock radial tires,open headers .I had to literally come out of hole at just above idle to control wheel spin.A show room car stock turning consistant runs in the high 12s on street tires was a dangerous car on the street in the wrong hands with 500 pounds of brute torq.With 410 rear gear at 50 mph in 4th gear putting to floor it would lightly squeal the tires..The moral of this story, I traded in 1972 for a new corvette.I still have tears on my pillows not realizing at that time the value and knowing it would go down in history as the most powerfull production car of that era of muscle cars.You cant fix stupid.

It's really time consuming to lay out the stripes on the Z28 and the Chevells. Even more annoying when you have to cut a hole for a blower and provide bracing, and get the hood to shut right, with even clearances all round. People don't understand what it takes. Two stage paint takes more time to rub than it does to spray. Why would they do that to a stock cowl induction hood? Looks, you won't break into the 12s with out cheater slicks or wrinkle walls and tubs.Enjoy an unmolested car.

It is an interesting curiosity to be sure it's like an old pair of sneakers or a pair of trousers or flight jacket that you get that you were it was meant to be worn in for whatever reason it wasn't I had my old man watch this video and he was born 1950 and his best guesstimation on this particular Chevelle is the original owner had intended to convert it into a racing car like you said in the video sir but most likely he blew all of his Budget on acquiring the initial package the LS6 454 probably set the original owner back and then meant to come back to it one day and got distracted by life and other commitments and so she sat at least that's his best guess but I guess we'll never really know it's still sort of a disappointment that it never got driven like you said that's the great tragedy of that particular member of the genus but the fact that it survived and is preserved means now it can be used as reference if only it were stick shifter that would be the best thing but I've often thought it is strange that the great automakers never preserve a factory example of any of their vehicles from this era still impressive though Chevrolet for life

LOL, 34 miles, Auto transmission and a built sheet that says M22 1:56. WTH? Are you showing someone else’s sheet? At 2:00 the build sheet also says ZL2 hood and this car just has the normal domed hood. Ha ha. That’s too funny. And no I won’t believe a story if the owner swapped the Rock Crusher Muncie and ditched the ZL2 Cowl Induction flapper hood.
