@@Valsmercedes The W122 was and is a work of art, the W123 was the beginning of the "Bank Vault" platforms and the ones I remember most when I was young. The W124 was a masterpiece of design and engineering that changed cars forever. The W140 is in my opinion, the last recognizable Mercedes before they started getting too tech-heavy and that was for me in the early 2000s with the W220.

The bean counters took over in the early 2000s. Someone decided that they over-engineered their cars and could make them cheaper. I emphasise make them cheaper as opposed to sell them cheaper because the savings were not passed onto the consumer.
@peterj57514 ай бұрын
Anyone who thinks you shift too slow doesn’t know how to treat a car you want to last. Manual gearboxes tell you what they like and older cars generally don’t like being rushed as you correctly point out. Sure, you can try, but only if you don’t care about premature wear. Thanks for showing due respect for the cars and the owners of the cars.

There is no need to defend your shifting... You know what you are doing, and, let's face it, you have driven more cars (more exotics & classics) than 99.9% of us watching. Although, have you ever driven 3 on the tree? :) Please keep driving the stuff I can afford.. and the stuff I hope to one day be able to afford. Cheers.

@@Retexz that’s debatable If you love machines then it shouldn’t matter if it’s manual or electronic You can make a case for car designs having more love and enthusiasm but as someone who loves cars I think both old and new have excellent design I think your just nostalgic for past eras/generations of cars which is more of a preference than something factual

“Slamming it in,” with reference to shifting a MT, will only break it, or wear it out! I always try to give a car what it needs… One of my earliest cars was a stroker Saab 95, with a very delicate MT on the column, so I learned to shift with 2 fingers. I still try, as much as possible, not to force anything…

I LOVE those cars (they are among my earliest infatuations), but never could afford one, and never knew anyone who had one… and with a manual! Wow! At least now, thanks to Tedward, I get to drive one (vicariously at least)!

The synchronizers on many of the cars from the 60's and earlier, especially 2nd gear were weak and wore out by 30000-40000 Miles . Every MG Midget/AH Sprite, Mini, BMW 2002 , Alfa Spyders which were cheap enough (Old!) that I might afford one had worn out 2 nd gear synchros. I learned to double clutch shifts on a 948cc MIdget mark 2 out of necessity. I would like you to comment on these issues when you sample these cars. I also had 2 Citroen 2CV's and both had excellent gearboxes . VW Beetles and 356 Porshes also had durable gearboxes for that era. Currently drive a 12 year old Fiat 500 Abarth which has an excellent gearbox as well.

Back when Mercedes still seemed to be word of mouth for advertising. Pure class. The car said you had money and were smart. This Mercedes is low key and that is enough.

This car was really more of cruiser than a serious sports car. When Mercedes discontinued the 300SL, it was long time before they made another serious performance car. This car was more the heir of the 190SL. About 1970 they trotted out the mid-engine C111 with a Wankel engine, but that never made production.

Cars are meant to be driven and I can understand some cars being put away, but this is like drivers quality, great mechanical condition but a little rough in some areas on the outside. but to your point, it lets you drive it without worrying so much. I miss some of the old designs of cars. simply better quality but less technology and safety features but I could care less for that stuff sometimes. its nice to have on long trips but just a beautiful car. great video!!!

I have a GLK350, which is at least DISTINCTIVE! With its unusually boxy, upright design (for a contemporary Merc), it has a little more utilitarian in it, which I like. It also has that big 6, which gives it more than adequate oomph! If it had a MT, it would be perfect! I do happen to think it looks pretty good.

09:03 Who's gonna mess with that? Can tell you: Last week 3 idiots stole one of these out of an underground parking garage where i live. The 4th idiot was the owner who had left the keys in the car! (a really nice one in white according to the news pictures) The 3 idiots (can't call them anything else) made sure to "touch" the wall on getting out of the garage, hit 3 other cars on the road and lastely they got stopped by a lamp post if i remember correct. Such a beautifull car wrecked by someone who should never even touch a steering wheel in my opinion and even less one of such an icon of car. People who drive like them, in my opinion should be banned from " *active* participation in traffic" while steering any vehicle for life. Even a bicycle or scooter. Them walking is dangerous enough for themselves and anyone around They should be restricted to only passive participation in traffic. Btw.: good nice ones here are in the 6 figures, and one like the one in the video are probably still in the upper 5 figures.
