I live in NE Ohio and when I was a kid, we had railroad tracks that were about a 1/10 of a mile behind out house. We always had trains going by. I remember one specific day back in 1970 when a train was pulling, I think about 8 car carriers full of these yellow Cutlass Rally 350’s. There was probably 8 cars double stacked per car. The train happened to stop right behind our house. I high tailed it back there and got a close up look at the cars. They were beauties sitting there. It was quite a sight to see. I loved those cars ever since. Nice video Lou, which triggered a great memory.

@@sallybrown4947 I live in Alliance, OH which is between Canton and Salem, near route 62. The cars were traveling northwest I believe which would head towards Cleveland, but if it was traveling southeast it was heading towards Pittsburgh. That is neat that you remember seeing them also. Where did you see them at?

That is a lot of yellow! I don’t think I’ve ever seen the color-keyed bumpers on anything but the GTO Judge back in the day. I saw in the brochure that the wheels had no trim rings, so I’m glad to see these wheels actually have some chrome added…nice touch. Thanks Lou for a bright yellow morning to our rainy weather!

Thank you for featuring this car Lou. I absolutely love these rallye 350s. I’ve only seen one in person my entire life and ironically seen two drive past me on the other side of the highway going there opposite direction. I remember the first time I learned about these cars. Me and my friends were riding our bmx bikes and we pedaled into a mobile gas station which must of been about 1996 or so. It was one of the older style stations with a big double window on the side and we saw the big yellow back half roofline and were emediately drawn to peek in the window. We didn’t know what the hell it was and we must of tried for 10 minutes looking around the windows of building to get a better look. I remember peeking in and seeing the big yellow spoiler and thinking “ what the hell is this???I love it!”. I wrenched my neck and in the Corner of my eye I read “ rallye 350” and emmediately remember thinking “ wow”. Anyways it was there for a month and we all routinely rode to the station to look at it and never got to hear or see it run which really pissed me off bc I wanted to learn more about it so bad. This car was one of the cars that started my fascination with muscle cars. I shortly after had my mom drive me to Barnes and noble bc the internet sucked at the time and had her buy me a big book on muscle cars and I dissected that thing for years. That’s when I learned it was an olds and had 310 horse yada yada. Anyways, best part is these are affordable still and this one is one of the better ones bc most are bench seat like he said AND have column shift. Also, you might want to ask him if that that 350 was just a rebadged cutlass supreme 350 4barrel with the cold air induction added on. I really think that’s all it was bc the four barrel in the supreme was rated at 310 horse aswell. It would make sense bc it would keep the price down and also since it wasn’t a radical keep insurance prices down. Anyways, this thing rules! Nice job as always.

Growing up in San Diego, alot of families had Oldsmobiles, including my family. We had a Ninety-Eight. My best friend's mother had a Delta Eighty-Eight convertible. Many families rode in the comfort of the Vista Cruiser. So, I am familiar with Oldsmobiles. Did I mention that my Uncle had a Cutlass? Well this 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Rallye 350 is about as sharp looking as they come! What a classic car! Very easy on my eyes.

I honestly have to admit I don't remember seeing this car although I'll ask my brother. I noticed no electric windows. Loved the button that moves the bucket forward. Racing mirrors and stripes. When I was in college (mid-1990s) one day I spotted an older lady picking up her grandkids at the day school across from our small campus. She was driving a worn, faded, but solid 'yellow 70 Rallye 350!! All the striping and decals were still evident. She saw me gawking (guess she was used to that) so I walked over to say hi and ask if I could see the car. She told me that she and her husband had purchased the Olds new and were finally getting ready to sell it after what was then 24-25 years of ownership. I took her number and name--she was asking, I think, $6,500 at the time!! I wasn't in the market then as I owned a muscle car already, and was helping my brother build his as well. I asked around but none of my various gearhead friends and acquaintances could put together the funds, or they didn't have anywhere to store the car, or whatever the reasons. Hope it found a good home and is out there being enjoyed.

When I was in my late teens (late 80's), I remember seeing one of these driving around Lodi, NJ by an older lady. I always wondered what happened to that car. You're right Lou, if you see one on the street you never forget it. Love all the Olds muscle cars, with the '69 Hurst Olds being my #1. I did own a '70 442 non W30 for a time. I threw a rod and had no clue how to rebuild motors at the time so I sold it cheap around '89 or '90. Sometimes you make the dummest choices.

A little head work, dual plane, better Holley and headers along with a bigger cam. This thing had an idle to die for and sounded great winding it out Olds 350 could hold its own to anything back then. But no joke,it wasn't a sleeper since it stuck out day or night with all that YELLOW, but it was a cool ride.

Growing up in Niceville, Florida, I knew a kid in my neighborhood whose mother had one of these cars exactly like that one. Her car was kept in a garage always, and she only drove it once in a while. I remember it was a real treat to see it. As kids we really didn't think too much about it, we always referred to it as the "Rally-E", but all the kids did think it was a cool car nonetheless. This was in the early 80's so, the car really wasn't all that old, but it was obviously special to the kids mom because it stayed in the garage. Beautiful car . In the early 80s a junkyard near bethal manor and tabb ,va. , had a 1970 ralley 350 , and. 1970 buick gsx, the gsx had a roll bar in it . 2 of the best gm cars made in 1970 in the junkyard . Now they would be worth a fortune . I had a 71 ,and a 72 442 . Both 455 , i have a 78 trans am ,black of course ,that I've owned since the nineties , and a ss camaro. But i love and miss my 442s.

One of the “classic” cars I owned in the 70’s, was a beautiful Olds Cutlas S, with a 350 4 barrel and gorgeous chrome spoked hubs! I loved that car! Then I got a Buick Skylark GS - which blew my mind! And THEN I discovered Mopar! Which led to two Dusters, and then came my all time fav - a 1970 300, with a 440. Now I’m old and drive a RAV4 - anyone got a time machine? I love cars Peace

So from all of those cars you owned the 1970 Chrysler 300 was your favorite? Because of the 440.?..the ride...both? I kind of like a slightly bigger car for my main cruiser with air...love Buick 455's myself (74 GS 455 Century).
@cherrypickerguitars
@cherrypickerguitars 3 жыл бұрын
@@gt-37guy6 I always loved that “long and low” look that began around 1960. The 69 and 70 300’s were the longest and lowest! The “bankers sports car” tag always appealed to me too. The 440’s were bullet proof and much easier for my limited mechanical skills to work on, as opposed to the big hemi’s. I’m feeling like I suddenly need a “summer” car. I can tell you, though, my little RAV4 is quite amazing - it’s THE most desirable one - a 2006 with a six cylinder. They detuned this motor for 2007, but in 2006 it made 268 hp! It’s very light, so it goes like stink! Couple this with 2006’s having proper 4wd, instead of Awd. The 6 cylinder,2006 RAV4 is a true anomaly! I had a Chevy S10 SS in the mid 90’s - this RAV 3.5 V6, is just as fast as the S10 with its 4.3 litre V6! Peace

I've never seen 1 on the street but did see 1 at a Chicago World of Wheels show back in the 90s that was a bit different. The 1 had Hurst badges and a 4 speed, no rear wing. Yellow on black, Cutlass S, but the window sticker said W30. Same hood, same stripes. Same HO 350. That car was stickered at over $5k with a/c, tilt, p/s, power disc, p/w, p/l, AM/FM 8 track, buckets, center console, posi 3.42, rallye gauges with Sun tach, and the wrapped bumpers, which at some point were stripped and painted yellow, according to the owner. The owner said he thinks the car was a special order demo. Build date was 4 of 1970.

I have owned two 1970 Oldsmobiles. I never did like the monochromatic yellow on these and it is still a 70 olds :-) What's not to like? My 1970 442 had a 350 in it. The 350 definitely has some guts! The 1970 Old's suffered from what I called "Cutlass face" The front bumpers were easily misaligned causing the center to dip down slightly and the ends to turn up slightly, looking like a smile, hence the nickname "Cutlass face". I have definitely banged my head on the hood lip in the center too...

All those upgrades in the W45 package, but no sport gauge package! @ 7:38 you can see the U21 option wasn't mandatory and wasn't checked. Surprising until you find out that W45 was just an appearance and handling package, not a performance package. If you wanted a performance package you ordered a 4-4-2, a 4-4-2 W30 or a Cutlass S W31. If you wanted a bare bones performance car you could order an F-85 W31... all of the performance but none of the upscale interior trim of the Cutlass S W31. It needs to be said, though, that even without any engine upgrades, this car had plenty of power in its day... probably more power than the bias ply glass-belted tires could safely handle.

Another great video Lou. I didn't know that they made as many as the owner said. I thought it was only about a thousand to 1,200 of them built. I always wondered if the painted bumpers were popular. I wouldn't mind having one myself. The Yellow reminds me of the Saturn Yellow that came on the 70 Buick GSX. Were these cars available with 4 speeds or were they all automatics?
