Best Pepsi jingle that ever was, next to "Pepsi Pours it On." Wish they wrote music like that today. Thanks for bringing it back!
@fromthesidelines Жыл бұрын
Joe Brooks wrote it. He wrote other well-known jingles for Maxwell House {"Maxwell House is.....good to the last drop, MAXWELL HOUSE!"}, Dr. Pepper {"DR. PEPPER!! So misunderstood....."} and Dial soap {"Aren't you glad you use Dial? AREN'T YOU GLAD?????"}. He also wrote "You Light Up My Life".

Here's a neat thing you're about to learn... that's Hal Linden on the voice-over.

Five years after this commercial, he began a 7½ season run as the title character on the American Broadcasting Company sitcom "Barney Miller."

Even when he was "Barney Miller", Hal continued to lend his familiar voice to commercials.

@@dr.hookyeah2883 The real life Ron Bergundy was TV newscaster Mort Crimm, who had a reputation for being real macho in the 1970's. I remember seeing him on Detroit's Channel 4 news in the late 70's. By the 1980's he had lost a lot of his bluster and became far more nicer and mellow.

I sure do miss these old commercials - especially the ones for soft drinks like Pepsi. - as opposed to plain old bottled water Along those same lines, has anyone but me noticed lately that a great majority of TV commercials these days feature a dog - regardless of whether or not the product being advertised has anything to do with dogs? From cleaning products to insurance and everything in between. It's become a cliche. What's even worse are commercials for prescription drugs showing people walking around in garish work-out clothing having conversations about their health problems - and of course at least one of them is walking a dog. Particularly offensive are the ones that show overweight bald guy strolling around carrying a clipboard and high fiving everyone he meets along the way for no discernible reason whatsoever.

I don’t watch TV anymore, so I’m not up on any contemporary ads, but dogs, children and old people are old standbys for ad agencies. And ads come in waves. If something boosts sales, everyone follows with it.
@MrRKWRIGHT Жыл бұрын
@@brianarbenz1329 Yeah, but I'm sure if you were watching TV, you'd get tired of seeing all these dogs in commercials. You'd probably get tired of seeing all the ads for prescription drugs with side effects as well. It's unbearable.

“He’s a man’s man, and he likes a manly drink to go with his man-activities (like doing man-stuff). You’d better man-up if you want to drink Pepsi, or you wont be accepted into the Men’s Club (no women allowed).” I think the target demo of this ad was males.

I wonder if this aired perhaps right after Apollo 13’s successful return, and the ad maker was holding off on mentioning the moon program until it was known the crew was safe. Maybe they added that as a voice over just after the recovery.

A MAN'S work, bringing a MAN'S kinda thirst? So why can't a WOMAN have a MAN'S thirst? Just thought I'd ask. And believe me, I was once born with chauvinist fears brought on by ads like this one, and sometimes chauvinism means in psychological terms that a guy like me is an inner feminist waiting to emerge. Who agrees with my heart???
