1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird in B5 Blue & 440 Engine Sound on My Car Story with Lou Costabile

On "My Car Story" we're at the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis WI on 2-21-19 at the World of Wheels car show.
We're looking at a 1970 Plymouth Superbird in B5 Blue Paint. The car is equipped with a 440 CI V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Brent Kultgen, and he’s with his Daughter Abby. Brent’s has this car since 1987. He shares he found an article that the car “runs good & needs paint“. After many years of the car being in partial completion, the car debuted at Carlisle PA for Chrysler Nationals in 2016, and today Brent with his family enjoy the car.

Fact 1: The car was junk when new. Fact 2: Nobody wanted them. Fact 3: Dealers had to discount them or convert them to plain road runners.

Definitely worth the delay. There was a guy in my area in the late 70's with a plum crazy superbird daily driver. Only Chrysler would sell something so outrageous. Another great feature Lou

@@loucostabile in 1971 my dad bought a new gold duster, the dealership had a lime green super bird still new , I remember sitting in it and the big pistol grip. Awesome cars 👍

@@MikeJBlues Yes, they were a hard sell and now very rare as survivors. Dealers would strip off all the Superbird items and make it a plain Road Runner to get it off the lot. The Fender Tag would prove it was a Superbird from the factory based on the special codes B30 ( Nov 30 1969 ) and VIN sequence . This Superbird is a late production by the J98710 because Chrysler set aside the J97000-99000 window to used for the 1935 Superbirds made. It's # 1711 , add 1 to the last number because the Sequence started J97000 for the first car .

I heard about SUPERBIRDS ,more or less after buying my new 1970 Coronet 500/383 CI/ etc: though, did not buy a special 70 Challenger/4 Speed/ Magnum from same Dealer. Interestingly lots of common parts: windshield washer, steering wheel, some body panels ( which rusted out horribly around Warsaw IN by 1983 )......Actually, Plymouth was a lower class ( quality slot?) than Dodge ............Anyways great times,

can't say I've ever seen the headlamps operate on one of these. as a youngster, i saw one being operated in tacoma wa in 1971. as it was in the morning: no headlamps! a lot of fun here ... massive American awsomeness

the scoops on the fenders, some say they are for front tire clearance on nascar speedways. Others claim they were vents to let hot air out of the fender wells. I think the latter is more probable. They say the wing was as high as it was to allow the opening of the decklid. What are your thoughts? Leno produced a video on one of these as well, yours was more informative, keep up the good work.

(Writing this on my mom’s profile! This is IcePrincess66 writing) Hey did you know, some DeviantArt user named FriendlyMotors fused the Plymouth Superbird and the Road Runner character together! I thought it looked cute and cool! It would be Roadie’s (my Petty Blue 1969 RR) official design for my live-action/animated series Roadie the Plymouth Roadrunner! Roadie is cute, nutty and funny. He only speaks in the same way as his cartoon self did. He says “Meep-meep” and “Beep-beep” just like his cartoon self. He occasionally sticks his tongue out. When he’s ready to roll, he revs his engine and happily beeps his horn. I hop in and get rolling. Roadie turns into his live action form and I steer him around the street, downtown or even to the next city! Roadie’s birthplace was at the Vanguard Motor Sales dealership in Plymouth, MI (Michigan), where I went to spend some time with my friends in a bowling alley nearby.

My Plymouth Roadrunner Roadie is a very punny car! He can make the funniest puns by just beeping his horn! The way he does it is pointing at different things so I can make a pun out of it. Here’s one that he made: Roadie: (points at a Frozen II figure I got and makes a shivering gesture) Me: Man, it’s chilly out here! Roadie: Beep, meep meep beep beep! Me: Yeah, I’m Frozen II!
