I had a '69 Corona Mk II, and aside from front grill difference, it was identical to this one. Had no trouble starting cold. It would get better gas mileage than most other cars in the 1980's. I miss mine a lot. it was my first car, and my dad and I rebuilt the engine together, cleaned up the body work, re-did the interior. Was an awesome car during my high-school years. I'd love to find another to restore, and maybe convert to electric. Thanks for sharing the video! Great stuff.

My buddy Tom had one of those when we were in high school ('76 -'77) and we used it as a fishing car and jeep. It would go anywhere, do anything we asked it to do, was 100% reliable, and was just a great car. Wish they still built the same model today - simple, basic, easy to work on - quality!

My mother owned a 71 Corona - baby blue with a black interior. Didn't have the wood grain bezel around the gauge cluster. She drove the car all over the state for her job. The only problem was rusting of the front fenders over the headlights. It became my car when I started to drive and I drove the car hard!
@albeit17 ай бұрын
The engine compartment looks so tidy. My first real car was a 71 Corona. Bought it for $100. The rust was so bad, there were holes in the floor. So I installed linoleum! When I accidentally locked the keys in it while the engine was running, I pushed the linoleum out of the way from underneath the car to turn off and remove the keys. A dead battery wasn’t a problem if parked on a hill. Or on level ground if you could get it rolling and pop the clutch. First car in my family. Now 4 of 6 siblings drive Toyotas. I’ve had NINE myself.

We had as our family car Toyota Corona my1967. I drove it after getting my driving licence in may 1969. It had 4 +1 manual gearbox. 1.5 l engine and 74 hp with drum brakes. Top speed was about 145 km/h. At petrol stations nobody could find the petrol filling hole!

When I was very little my Dad bought a 1971 Corona then my Grand dad did. My dad's broke the timing chain and then parked it for several years behind my grandpa's house for years because the timing chain broke.I used to get inside it and pretend we were going on vacation with my sister and the car never went anywhere.Many.years later they.drug that old toyota out and him and my uncle worked a week on that thing until 1 and 2 in the morning to.get back on the road.Oh and my mother hated the color of it and bought 20 cans of spray paint to change the color and my dad was sooo mad.😂. They put some green shag.carpet in the trunk Then Dad being a sheet metal man he made new rocker panels for it.He also left me in it one day running and I accidently knocked it in reverse and backed it into the neighbors yard. I cried and cried when dad sold that old car. He sold it to my Uncles brother and heard it got parked in a pole barn in Ohio he hoarded old cars.I always wanted to reach out and see if he still had the old car still.He kept everything.I never have though. Sorry for rambling on Thanks for the video it brought back so many wonderful memories.You have a beautiful piece of history

My Dad had a '69 robin's egg blue Corona. Problem was it had the two speed "Toyoglide" automatic trans, which was a weak copy of the Chevy Powerglide. The engine in the Corona, the 3RC, was a copy of 2/3 of the old Chevy "stovebolt" six. The Landcruiser had the 6 cyl version. Not the more modern 230/250 cu in six. the 3RC was bulletproof but the auto trans was junk. Kept cracking the flexplate around the crank bolt holes. Fond memories!

Among RT40 sedans only the late models had floor shift. The early ones had a column 3-speed (or "Toyoglide" 2sp auto). Japanese home-market buyers looked at column shift as more sophisticated and refined in the '60s, at some point word had to come back to the home office that they were the cheapskate special in America while four-on-the-floor was sporty and a bit upscale. Since it was simply the norm in Europe, Japanese companies happily obliged and saved the cost of developing a left-hand-drive column shift, Nissan'/Datsun a few years before Toyota.

Yo tuve 5 3 -69 2-68 pero ese es 1969 Corona. Motor 1900.

My dad took one in trade on a Porsche we couldn’t keep. I was just learning to drive and we lived in rainy Portland Ore. trying to do everything by the book we took off down the hill and as soon as I touched the brake pedal all 4 wheels locked and we slid into the curb. After a lecture on braking my dad got behind the wheel and the same thing happened. The car was undrivable. Nothing that could be repaired, just how it was. Stretched timing chains (2 per car) burnt valves and broken pistons. Absolute rubbish, it’s amazing that Toyota will able to engineer their way to building reasonable then awesome cars. When I see the very rare restored or pristine Corona I am amazed what they stared with.
