I've always loved the way these cars look. Classy, simple, and elegant. It's something that would fit right in on Newport or on the PCH.

I can literally smell this video. 😆. The crisp fall air and the buzz of such a pleasant car. Great job on the sound capture and letting the car do so much talking. You couldn’t have timed the leaves blowing by in the intro any better. Great video.

Beautiful car. Brings back memories of riding in one about 20yrs ago, the treasured car of a friend’s grandfather who had recently died.

Perfect area to drive a grand touring car. I appreciate the moment of silence to listen to the wonderful growl of that inline 6. This one is a beauty!

My dad and I restored a 65 230 SL when I was a kid. It had a manual transmission, and truth be told, it really did the car a huge injustice- it shifted at the lower end of the gear and never allowed the engine to growl in those higher rpms. Love these videos!

Weird I just watched your 250sl video the other day reminiscing about driving one of my clients 280sl manuals. Till this day one of the best cars I’ve ever driven. Nothing like them.

That's a beautiful example. It would benefit from 195 width tires, which are larger diameter, and getting a little closer to the diameter of the original bias-ply tires. For those who can't afford the $$$ for the ZF 5 speed to put in them, the 1972 W108 280SE 4.5 (V-8 car) rear axle assembly bolts right in, and drops the rpm approximately 800revs. It was the first thing I did to my '66 250SE Coupe when I purchased it in '92, and fortunately at that time, the 4.5 cars were all over the place for $500.

This and silver with navy blue & cream interior would be the absolute dream specs. I'm not sure if I saw the latter one somewhere or did I make it up, but the former clearly is real, so with that being said - this is one of the greatest cars to own imo. 280SL already looks phenomenal, one of the most beautiful designs of all time in the industry and this spec just takes it up to a different level. I have a strong feeling such a mint condition unit like this one could be worth bonkers amount of money in 10-20 years. They already are so damn expensive and the rise in price is not looking like it's gonna slow down anytime soon.

4:55 The quick rev drop is likely aided by the engine driven cooling fan adding drag to the engine off throttle. Your 911 appears to the do the same with that big fan for air-cooling.

The gear ratios to engine revs make it sound and act so strangly similar to my manual BMW E34 88' model with the 12-valve M20B20 inline 6. This MB sound so similar it just really makes me miss driving my BMW. As It's parket in storage untill I finish my studies, so still a couple years untill I get to experience it again. These old German I6 engines, give me a experience I can't have in anything else, V6s, V8's, V10s and V12s are cool and fun. But I'll take a NA old relaxing German I6 any day.

What I’ve read from experts is that the old single pivot swing rear axle worked fine because the original tires are narrow and the axle has a limited movement range. The change in wheel camber in that range does not radically change the width of the contact patch of skinny tires so you are unlikely to have sudden oversteer or even the rear end jacking when pushed hard like the first generation Corvairs.

Grab one now. Under appreciated, but now getting attention. A problem some had was the number of turns lock to lock. I recall pix of Stirling Moss with “his” 280SL. Probably a better choice than the old 190SL, although the 190 has its charm. You’re doing well with the presentations. I enjoy watching. ✌️

@@deheerKelder oh, yeah. There is a history of their being called soft, even effeminate. Now getting re-evaluated, as you say. I’m probably slow on the sales results. The trend is… they are fashionable now. Nice car.

@@RobertERensch They have been very expensive for a very long time. Have you slept under a rock for the past, I don't know, fifteen years?
@RobertERensch Жыл бұрын
@@leviathan5207 I suspect there is a relative price range question. At any rate, I admit I’ve only had a sleepy eye on these cars. I more than likely am behind. Hardly matters now. Want me to remove my comment or call it cheerful sarcasm possibly?

I paid $9735.00 in 1970 for a 280SL automatic transmission. Signal red with black leather and hard top The only bad thing about the car was the way the fenders were mounted, leaded in, this caused rusting from underneath If it weren’t for that fault I might still have that car! JIM 🎉
