Found one under the family tractor shed slapped it on the back of the boat backed into the pond and pulled five times she fired right up. Mind you it’s was under the shed for approx 25 plus years

$150 a fair price for a great running vintage outboard. I would feel confident on actually using it, in fact we may this weekend.

And we got a couple here.

They are really good outboards, will last forever with basic maintenance

What's your slow and high speed adjustments on I've got the same year and model motor I'd like for it to rack off like that one!!???
@brentb76433 жыл бұрын
I just got one for 200 cad today same issue yours has the clutch is loose how did ya fix it
@michaelmiley8552 Жыл бұрын
I just picked up the same motor! Is your still running well?
@origionaldz Жыл бұрын
It was when I sold it years ago. I used it for awhile then upgraded to a bigger boat. Probably still running as these outboards are hard to kill.

throw a carb kit in it , also a impeller, both cheap parts, check leg oil to , milky = seals , also cheap

I have a 1973 Evinrude Yacht Twin 4 Hp 2cylinder. There is a knob on the front of the engine that adjusts "lean - rich". Anyone know what this supposed to be set on for starting, then normal trolling.
@origionaldz4 жыл бұрын
That knob only adjusts your fuel mixture off idle. You always want it more on the rich side. You have to fine tune it on the boat and under load.
@outboardfixer7 жыл бұрын
Should have set mixture screws in front.......nothing wrong but that.
@cliffpint491411 жыл бұрын
ps, very easy to do, fun little twin cylinders , maintain it and it will last a long time, pss never full throttle in a bucket = over-rev , and put some good oil in it like xd-50 also stay away from ethanol mixed gas e

I have a the same motor and my dad has adjusted all the mixtures, do u have some info on where they should be. I can get it to fire but wont run. New fuel pump and new plugs fitted, new fuel too.

Nikki Booth I have a similar question. I have a similar motor, and I'm currently trying to tune the carburetor. Could you let me know what the tuning turns are for the slow speed and high speed is? The only info I've found so far is a carburetor tuning for a 1957 Johnson 7 1/2 hp. They recommend 1 1/2 turns out for low, and 3/4 turns out for high. Would this be the same for the 1971 4hp? Thanks in advance!
@rustynailz16876 жыл бұрын
I seated my top gently to the right then turned out one full turn and a half turn,on the bottom only about a half turn out only finger tighten the carb bolts with a half turn of a 7/16 wrench or it won't run period unless u put starter fluid init or straight gas which is very very bad

How much compression does your motor have? I have a near excellent looking motor but my compression is in the 45psi range. The motor will run throttle open but as soon as I try to idle it at a trolling speed it dies. I have so far invested in a impeller, fuel pump, head gasket, exhaust cover gasket, and cleaned the carb. Any ideas?
@alphadeltazero165910 жыл бұрын
Change your fuel pump..
@justinpelletier517210 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I was able to get the motor running. I ended up doing a complete rebuild including coil and condensers and it runs like a dream. I think from the start it was coil or condenser. The bogging down was due to running on one cylinder. It was my first rebuild ever but i had my machinist neighbor help me out as far as what i should for when rebuilding.

Loosen your carburetor bolts the two nuts that go onto the studs only fingertighten them I replaced every piece of mine just to find out that's all it was
@thomastoups34515 жыл бұрын
45 psi is too low. It should be at least over 65 or so. 75 to 90 is much better. These old motors are low compression. You aren't going to see 120 psi or higher like on modern motors.

How do i tilt the propeller out of water?
@squat2248 жыл бұрын
Pull on the little lever under the downshaft, and then pull towards the bow of the boat on the motors cover. There's a lever/hook that catches on the adjustment pin, that's gotta be unhooked first.
@danmontenegro5928 жыл бұрын
+Squat251 Gaming thanks man, but can u make a vid or something. idk what any of that is

Anyone have a manual for this motor they're willing to part with? Just picked one up myself. Now the fun begins!
@origionaldz6 жыл бұрын
You can usually find the manual for these on ebay, thats where I got mine when I had it.
@myerchinizing6 жыл бұрын
Yup, bought an online Seloc manual. So far so good. Parts in the mail. Should have it in the water this weekend!
@origionaldz6 жыл бұрын
Jason Myerchin nice good luck. These engines are usually bullet proof. Make sure you change the water impeller before you really use it.
@myerchinizing6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice. I'll def get one ordered. Can't wait to get it fired up. It's in really good shape. Hardly a chip in the paint. Couldn't have been used much. My turn to put it to work now.

Mine had awesome power and torque for a 4hp. I used mine on a lake for fishing. I'm on a river now so I need something with a little more HP because of the current.
