just for future reference,you have to turn the carb adjusters at way smaller and slower incremints,then let the motor slowly adjust to the change.start one n a quarter turns out from full needle seat.

Hi Brandon - I enjoyed your video! Very interesting! Your explanation of the "reed plate issue" was interesting. I have a 1969 Evinrude 4hp and mine ran similar to yours - a bit of vibration, and I discovered a broke spark plug wire that was arching, causing the periodic miss fire. I have ordered some 7mm ignition wire and will repair it soon! Thanks again for the nice vid!

Hint for small outboards: You can modify a socket extension so that it can be chucked in a drill and find the right size socket for the flywheel nut. Then you can use a strong(ish) drill to turn the motor over. This is a great way to do spark checks and compression tests.

Hey Brandon; thanks for all of your helpful videos... Where can I find a connector for the fuel line on the end that actually fits on the motor? Ive tried checking local boating stores to no avail... Or is there something else that will work? Im referring to the piece you connect to the fuel port at 1:19. Thanks.

Hi, Watched the whole thing, thanks. Great advice. Starting to tune up my 1972 4HP Johnson Seahorse. Would you happen to have any videos on rewinding a starter spring on a Johnson 4 Horse? Its the same starter coil as your 77 Envinrude. Thx

Great video Brandon. I'm having some issues with my 1978 evinrude 4hp 2stroke. My compression is at 30 so I wonder what your thoughts might be. I have good spark and water was coming out the pee holes when it was running. Now I can't get it started anymore. Any thoughts would help. I will be definetly watching more.

My 74 evinrude twin has no power pack and I see no brackets for one. I know where it’s supposed to be, but there is nothing in there and no way to mount one. The motor starts and runs on high, but it dies down when I try to idle it.

Hey Brandon, I have the exact same motor and I can't figure out what size the fuel connector is on the motor. I looked at the service manual and it called for 5/16" but that didn't fit and I also tried 3/8". What size did you use??

Hey brandon. I have a 73 evinrude 4hp. The throttle keeps moving to the stop position when the motor is running. Could you tell me what needs to be done with this issue? Thanks
@Just-InTimeRepairs Жыл бұрын
I think they sell new bushings for the base of the throttle handle pivot point on the case. That's my guess for this issue.

If reed valves are leaking put a piece of glass in front of the carburetor see if spitting gas out
@ct17622 жыл бұрын
it wasnt. that gap in the reed gets closed when the crank case is pressurized from running. rarely do i see reeds go bad, and when they do its because some genius revved it up without backpressure.

Get that off a Johnson/Evinrude outboard, or a Mercury/other? If Johnnyrude, was there any more numbers before that one? Can use the serial number to look up model/year information. Its a common misconception that you can.
