It was the highest scoring game in League history to that point. 327 points has been beaten 7 times since, the record of 345 points was set in 1978 when St Kilda (204) defeated Melbourne (141).

He got tongue-tied, he meant to say either 'new stand end' (a reference to the Western Stand opened in 1967) or 'scoreboard end' & ended up mixing the two.

Richmond tried to play football in this game and got smashed. Next year they went the knuckle. No team in history had as may filthy mongrels as that 73 side. Hafey should have hung his head in shame. His punishment came in latter years with all those grand final defeats... ha, ha!
