Nice like what you did with the Dash and welding up the unwanted Holes and getting rid of the Vents , + the Foam in the Back where them vents rusted One day Im going do some thing along them Lines , I might weld up those Back vents tho

Superbeetles were made with flat front windshields in 71 and 72 only. The reason for the rounded windshield in 73 was to increase the distance between the driver and the windshield.

@bunning63 1302 and 1303 are both "super" beetles- they both have MacPherson front struts and 4 wheel independent suspension, as well as the 1600 Dual Port motor. The 1302 had the flat windshield and the metal half dash that the Standard Beetle had. The 1303 had curved windscreen and a full dash. There are other differences but those are the main differences. Supers are used for the 'German look' because they handle better, and look more "Porsche" like.

what makes a super a super isn't the glass or dash, but the front end- A superbeetle has a fully independent MacPherson strut front end as opposed to the solid beam of the standard beetle. 71-72 had flat windscreens and standard dashes. 73-79 had curved windscreens and full dash.

Super beetles from 1971 to 1972 actually came with a flat window setup, as the one in the video. Then, from 1973 to 1979, the curved windshields came into play the real difference between the super and standard beetles lie in the front suspension setup. The super beetles had a McPherson strut suspension, while the standard had a torsion bar setup.

The 1302 Super Beetle has a flat windscreen and tombstone rear lights. The later 1303 had the curved screen and plastic dash. The both have the same running gear which makes them Super Beetles.

@k0namiman Ran out of space- the 1303 was designed because in 1972, it seemed like, for the 1973 year, airbags would be required. But the law was scrapped. Regardless, VW had redesigned the 1302 (1301 was already taken) to fit an airbag system that was never developed. The curved windscreen and full dash changed the sheetmetal of the car enough that a new model designation- 1303- was warranted. so 1300- standard, 1302- flat screen super, 1303- curved screen super.

Were the reinstallation of the tabs in the doors necessary? I thought with the missing tabs, converting back to two-piece windows would be easier since you wouldn't have to contend with the tabs when installing the vent wing.

I noticed the degree of rot & corrosion of the body, just above the rear Wheel Arch. I never liked the urethane foam that VW placed between the body panels in this area, as the foam remained damp / moist - and caused all of that rot! I decided that all of the foam cladding had to go! Allow the panel interiors to breathe and stay dry. Yes, the car is only slightly noisier, but it's nice to know that the work of cutting-out sections and repairing - cannot be undone (again) by this horrible foam. Simple Cavity Wax would've been better in those 'hidden' spots.

There was once a time that I would avoid 1302's and 1303's like the clap. That changed once I rode in one that felt like it ran on rails I have a 68, looking for the right oval window and 67 but I think I'll pick up a 1302 bug and build an all out Porsche killer

@bunning63 I have heard of those, not sold in US though. That was the South African 1975 model. It was a standard, short bonnet though, cause it had the 1303 windscreen. The South African cars often bastardized parts because South Afica at the time had no trading partners, and SA models were built for use in SA only. Due to Apartheid, nobody would active trade with them.

@k0namiman Got a 1302s myself, I was having a dig at 'ThinMint2009' over his idea only the 1303 was a super. I have seen a video with 1303(s) being barrier crashed with airbags, pretty weird. On the subject of weird, ever seen a beetle with a curved screen and a torsionbar front end and frontend sheetmetal though the bonnet is shorter due to screen. Heard of them years ago (80s), but saw one round here few years back, slighty odd looking. Believe they were sold in USA towards the end.

@@VladimirSanchez amigo x casualidad realice una compra de un vocho y ya en caza cuando enpeze a desarmarlo xq estaba totalmente arrumbado tiene todas esas cualidades . Q estan . Estan poniwndo y incluso y revisando a fondo tiene una placa de aluminio en frente donde dice made in germany y las series enpiessn co 133 resaltando esos tres numeros mas q los demas .. espero respuestas aver q procede . its not a super.....supers have a curved window and totally different dash. as well as rounded taillights. the only thing that looks super on this is the grill below the bonnet.
