The 914 has a delightful lightness and immediacy missing from most cars I’ve driven. It’s great to see someone keeping one alive and driving it the way it was intended to be driven....

I had a 914 2 liter back in the day that was pristine. The story of this motor is incredible. I can't image how much fun that car must be to drive with the 2.5L 'four corners, global motor'. To me, this captures the true essence of the sport. A very smart motorhead who built the car he wanted part by part. Well done.

Nah. That's not it. That little 2.5L will spin to 8K all day and night, but there's no rev limiter so there was no real answer to his question. Eventually the motor stops making power so you have to grab another gear. Matt wasn't gonna hurt it.

Jesus H. That motor is incredible and what a sleeper. A fairly humble doctor who lived down the street in my youth owned a dark (forest?) green 914 and kept it for a looong time. I appreciated that the vehicle was a porsche and was something different from the massive lumps of American steel and vinyl everybody else was driving, but never really gave it a hard look.

This is crazy. Two years ago, I watched Matt drive two of Bill-the-Nice-Guy's Porsches back-to-back, a 997 Carrera S and a 987 Cayman S. After Matt declared (and Bill agreed) that a 987 Cayman S with the 3.8L engine from the Carrera S would be the "greatest car ever," I made it my personal mission to find that car. It tooks months of searching, but I finally found one just as I was about to give up and just buy a regular Cayman S. She's a beauty. Atlas Grey, Sport Chrono, Borla exhaust, sport seats. But the big thing is the 3.8. And I found it just before my 40th birthday. It was perfect. Only one hitch: I live in Oklahoma, and the car was in North Hollywood. Now here's the kicker: Who did I hire to do the PPI before flying my son and myself halfway across the country to drive my dream car home? It was Marco at TLG! Seriously. And, of course he did a great job. Now, here, two years later, Matt is driving two Porsches with Marco himself. What a weird circle. Anyway, many thanks to Matt and Marco! The car is awesome, and I have both of you to thank for it!

I can remember back in the day when you could get these for a song. People hated these things. I didn't much care for em myself but I've come to appreciate the virtue of small and light. Big honking muscle cars are alright for cruising the city or eating up the interstate, but I'd much rather have something like this to drive.

Sweet! Yes it is a 'NARP', a joint VW-Porsche project. But all you haters have no clue that a well set up 914-6 like Marco's can DEMOLISH many 911s including modern ones, plus Caymans/Boxsters and other much more modern cars at a tight technical track and in the canyons... Mine has been built/serviced by 5 different Porsche shops around the L.A. area (including Marco's / TLG) and every one of those shop owners are/were 914 fanatics and owners/racers even though they also own very sweet 911s as well... (I only say 'were' because one of those guys has unfortunately passed-away.) That should tell ya something.

Did you ever think about His Possible wife and Kids at home that also would suffer along with the injuries to the Bike Rider. Your kind of thinking is just like the kid in Florida that caused all those Families so much Pain. You must be Related. You need some help. You are precisely right, Ace. It's for everyone, not just cyclists. A single lane is usually wider than most cars, but cyclists usually don't have the decency to stay to the right of the lane more often than not.

This was cool to see! I remember growing up with a lot of those 914s - Seeing them around LA, California constantly (and remember just FEELING (Without knowing much at all about cars) that those and the "924" always struck me as lesser Porsches. Thanks for posting! Side note: THIS is one reason I spend more time on channels like the "Doug DeMuro" (channel) - less chatting, less extraneous convo and "just the facts, Ma'am" …bare bones stats, give us quirks and features with some humor but mainly just pared down stuff we really want to see (and that's IT). Now, That said, of course, there is a place for this kind of channel as some folks want to have more filler, etc. as it can be part of the ride, as it were - I would be remiss to not add here that I do understand that :-) I guess I am just personally more of the Doug DeMuro wavelength club :-)

My father had (well, "HAS" actually, it's still sitting in the garage right now) one in Ravenna Green (Or as I used to call it "Monkey puke neon green") and always kept it in good shape, no dings, rust or dents, with vanity plates that read "CLEEN 14". It is the only car I ever knew him to drive from the time I was a baby until I graduated college and he bought the 95 Impala SS he drove for his office when the lease was over. I learned to drive in it, practicing starting and stopping in the LA Zoo Parking lot, needing pillows behind me in the seat to reach the pedals and get that clutch far enough to the floor to shift gears. No power shifting or steering or windows either, driving it meant using some muscles to operate the stiff pedals and tight shift pattern. Learning to drive on that made driving any other car EASY. He put at least 300K miles on it and put a new engine in it twice over the years, even when the gasoline went all unleaded and he had to put in lead substitute, it was an inseparable association, my dad and that car... and yes THE SOUND. it had a deep rumble-y voice like his, too. My friends and I used to be able to hear him coming to pick me up from school from blocks away with that signature sound, almost like a lawn mower; it was so strong that whenever we drove through Beverly Hills, the sympathetic vibrations of the engine would trip the alarm sensors on all the fancy cars parked on Rodeo, and we'd leave a wake of sirens singing together in chaotic cacophony, each new member joining the chorus as we rumbled past. It was almost like a cartoon character, or Wonderbug from Sid n Marty Krofft with the pop up headlights looking like eyes that opened up at night. It had nice lines too, with the top on or off. The color just made it that much more of a statement. It might be worth a little bit of money now, too, given that he took such care of it, it's not all rusted out- that green paint is even inside the trunk, but it's still shiny. I don't think I could sell it though - it's too much a part of my memories. Nostalgia is not a sufficient word for how much of my childhood lives in that car. I'd still probably need the pillows to drive it even now. But the strongest association will always be that growling engine sound that always told me my Dad was almost home ....

Really cool and entertaining car with a nice, aggressive growl. 220 WHP for sure's enough for this little thing. Is it really that hard for a experienced driver like Matt hitting second gear, especially if you already know that it's a dog-leg layout and already anticipating the shift like from a standing start??? I think, he also drove a couple of them for his channel and didn't mess up so badly most of the times... :D
