I had a '74 dark red (Burgundy) Type LT Z28 with the huge emblems. Power windows, tilt wheel, ac, But it was a four speed... so added 650 Holley (double pump) with Hooker header side pipes and traction bars. 👍 Had to have a built 11 second car to take it. Or that frkn huge [sleeper] Chrysler that time showed me power 😂 Really love that car though. Especially intimidating Corvettes 👉 being 1975 (mine was $4250.00) Sadly but predictably...stolen! 😢

This was an extra nice surprise after getting home from my first local car show in over a year on a beautiful cool and sunny Sunday. In fact a close family friend of ours was there with his four-door straight six Lark!

look at the differences between the hot 1970 Z28 and that ‘74 model. No comparison on performance. Those R1 engines were certainly designed with all the right components. Little surprised this Stude wasn’t dipping into the 13’s.

It's an R1, no blower. If it had the blower it would easily be in the 13s or even 12s.

I know they weren't the most popular of Camaros, but I like the 74-77 years. They're relatively affordable if you can find one. Knowing what we know now - we can hot rod the hell out of them. Do them some justice.

I've had 7 Studebakers, and I enjoyed seeing the Commander. Both cars are in excellent condition, and I also enjoyed the style of the Camaro. Congratulations to both owners on the condition of both cars.

Congrats to the Camaro...I thought with the steeper gearing and lighter weight, the Stude would take this. By '74, the Camaro was a shadow of it's former self....heavier, lower compression/horsepower, saddled with emissions equipment, etc., the Stude wasn't much of a looker, but if it's equipped with the R2 or R3 Supercharger, it can hang with the quickest musclecars..another great race!

It's so weird how the right lane in most drag races gives vehicles better numbers. Early 60s Studebakers are amazing performers. I love watching videos of those aggressive Super Lark R2's.

Very interesting potential here. Even though the Camaro was detuned by that point it will still have more power than the R1.... but, the R1 will be WAY lighter. I bet we'll see some close races.

The studebaker would probably be around 200 net horsepower, weighed 322 pounds less and had the higher gear ratio. As expected pretty competitive between the two cars.

Am kinda surprised to see a 1974 Camaro racing here as the muscle car era ended in 1973 when emissions controls were mandated by the feds in 1974.

emissions actually started nationwide in ‘68 but got much more serious post 1970. Insurance rates helped kill the powerful cars as well. After ‘71 it got bad fast.

Yes, one off on the (optional) D88 decals. Interesting that this car was ordered with gauge delete! Tach and gauges were standard on Z28s, but probably could have been deleted by those who planned to add aftermarket gauges. I only ever saw one 1973 Z28 like this.

Not a legit Z28 imo. Had one, purchased new from Schonlaw Chevrolet in Hollywood, CA. NO Z28 had the insignia on the rear panel in that location. Mine, as EVERY one I'd ever seen had a 'type LT' badge. And though I did have the RPO D88 decal option it also had a tachometer. I can't recall ever seeing a '74 Z without a tach either. JMO

@@bmepdoc I had a early 74' Z/28 with the TH400 and 3.42 rear gears, with a single point ignition, and those huge deck stripe Z28 logo,( I like them) and my instrument panel had the factory tach. @@turjbo Back then you could get the Z28 with the badges or the stripes, and mid way through the rear, they replace the distributor with the H.E.I. The tach may have been part of a instrument cluster option as I have seen at least 3 different dash gauge combo's . Nice car and it made my day for me, thank you.
