Replacing the old worn out master cylinders, brakes and clutch, as well as going through the bleeding process. Learned some stuff here for sure. Enjoy as I bumble through my amateur mechanicing

Winter project for me this year to remove and rebuild both master cylinders Thanks for the guide.

Excellent. Gonna shoot any video of it? I need to do some major work on my roadster. Hopefully I'll be able to get some of that filmed.

That wouldn't be a good idea. Too much editing would be required after much swearing lol. There is a guy on Facebook. Refurbished offshore that is meticulous in his rebuilds. Its a wonder to behold.

My project is a 71 MGB GT, and we seem to be repairing similar problems... I look forward to your next video to guide me along.

Any surface in a storm I say. Cause that's sure as hell looks like what blew through my garage

Well done and very much appreciated. Thanks John.

Quite welcome Glenn, glad it could help someone out. Definitely a learning process on this vehicle since I've never worked on em before. Gotta tackle all the suspension bushings soon, looking forward to getting that filmed.

Great video, very helpful. How is the rear drum to disk conversion going?

I got the scarebird kit. Though adjustment of the parking brake leaves a bit to be desired. Especially when the "guide pins" on it are just large kotter pins. I think if there were a method of using their bracket but I was able to find a caliper that had the parking brake built in it would be much cleaner

Looking to change just the clutch master cylinder. Do you think I'll have to take out the entire mount with the brake master in order to change it, or could I just switch the clutch master cylinders with everything in the car? Thanks
@thatguydownthesteet6 жыл бұрын
You can take out the clutch MC without taking out the entire pedal box. It's tight in there but it can be done without much hassle. Just make sure you have both sockets and wrenches, maybe some of the angle sockets because some angles you simply can't get a regular wrench in unless it's really short. In my own experience I had to use a socket wrench to get the bolt off that attaches the main line to the MC at the back, I had to stick the socket in from the hole in the firewall and wrench it from inside the car. Annoying but it wasn't too bad.

Hey I have a 1968 mg b which has the same hydraulic brake/clutch system. I have replaced the clutch MC and the slave cylinder and I can't seem to get the clutch to bleed. How did you go about bleeding the clutch? Ive been trying for weeks
@jonnymiskatonic5 жыл бұрын
I just backed out the bleed screw and stepped on the pedal repeatedly until my girlfriend yelled stop. Is nothing coming out of the bleed screw? Have you removed it completely and seen it that changes anything? Maybe some gunk in the line if it's not bleeding fluid.

@@jonnymiskatonic I found out yesterday that the bolt that goes into the back of the mc has a hole that you have to line up when tightening. I will give it another shot later today. Any tips on a one man bleed?

What kind of carbs are u using?
@jonnymiskatonic7 жыл бұрын
Dual Mikuni, I have a separate video about installing those. They are amazing. Completely transformed the way the car performs. As far as your brake pedal feeling low and having a lot of play, to me that indicates air in the lines, possibly a leak. Is your fluid level the same after a few days? I've seen slow leaks at the calipers as well as the rear drum adjusters. I'd check for leaks and do a bleed starting at the rear working forward. Also if you have a proportioning valve, it might be stuck forward or back. Get the wheels up and check and see if the brakes are working well fore and aft.

Where did you get the mikunis ? Did they fit old manifold? What sizemikunis 45 hsr 40 ? They look like motorcycles carb hsr 45

I bought mine from v-performance.com I've been dealing with him for a long while. Great guy. HSR 42 More info in my install kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWHFiYSoadR6o6s I had to port match the intake, but easy enough with the foredom since it's aluminum.

Yeah they are, I got em from v-performance.com he knows what he's doing. The ones Moss sells are weak versions.

Hey Johnny, Totally appreciated this video! I have a 74 BGT. The master cylinders are now replaced, letting my old back rest after doing the contortionist routine. Anyway, tomorrow we'll be diving into the bleeding adventure. Thanks for the tip about the proportionig valve. I'm definitely a believer in Murphy's law. So, I'm figuring I'll probably need that piece of info. How did your test drive go? Thanks amigo, Dave in the Adirondacks

Went great have some new carbs on the bgt since then and it's a blast. Also have a v8 roadster added to the collection now. Gotta do lots of work there though.
@daviddouglas79505 жыл бұрын
Hey Johnny, glad it worked out well. What kind of carbs did you install? I was able to rebuild the original SU's and replace the malfunctioning Weber that the previous owner installed. Glad he kept the SU's. I moved the vacuum from the manifold to throttle port and it made a great improvement. Instant response. Just one thought, this is not a criticism just a reminder. When working with brake fluid don't forget your eye protection. A friend of mine had some splash in his eyes. He immediately flushed them but by the time he got to the ER (he was rushed there by his wife) he was totally blind in one eye and 80% blind in the other. The damage was permanent. Just saying. Take care, Dave in the Adirondacks

@@daviddouglas7950 I went with some Mikuni HSR carbs. I actually have a video up of the install and another of it running if you check my other stuff out. I have the original SU carbs still but wasn't sure what condition they were in. Someone had fine a single Weber swap, which is garbage.

I think he's one of them cyborgs. Look how fast his arms move sometimes and also isn't it strange that you never really see his head? They probably didn't want to pay to build that. Oh and when you say "old timer" I assume you're talking octogenarians at a minimum?

does not compute, another John Klatt, logic has failed!

Cyborgs always say that. I notice after I called them on it, they stuck an actual face on the cyborg to confuse the hominids. Not surprising.
