On "My Car Story" we're in Volo IL on 5-9-20.
We're looking at a 1975 Buick Regal in Walnut Mist Paint. The car features the factory 350 CI V8 engine.
Today I'm speaking with Jay Grams, Buyer / Co-Owner of the Volo Auto Museum. Jay shares they had a car show and he met the Original Owner of this car, and was so impressed on how he restored and took care of this car he made him and offer to buy it and the Owner agree. This car looks showroom new and the white interior looks like it has never been sat in. This car brings you right back to 1975.
The car's located at Volo Auto Museum, 27582 Volo Village Rd., Volo IL 60073. Web site is www.VoloCars.com If you love cars (Hollywood, Classic, Muscle, Antique), and Military equipment, memorabilia, and mementos then you must stop by this location.
ENJOY!

These cars Rode so nice, better than a friend of mine's new Cadillac CT 6 by a mile. I had a 77 landau, silver with the brightest red interior you could ever imagine, loved that car

I love it! It is as it was. My aunt had a '75 Regal, red w/a red interior. She sold it to my Mom & bought an '82 Regal in its place. I learned to drive in the '75 Buick & also in my Dad's '77 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Thanks for the trip to Volo (& also down memory lane for me), Lou!

Damn! This brings back some memories!!!! And, this era rides like a pillow topped, king size, bed on skates. I was 8 years old, when a neighbor's family bought one of these. My Dad called it a Buick compact..... You know, anything under 17 feet was a compact car back in 75! All his kids had the opposite reaction. Wonderful car, great find, and owner!!! Love it stock. I'd pay top dollar for a car like that! Blast from my past.

Love it Lou! Thanks for sharing, it’s so beautiful. These cars are my all time favorites of GM. My sister had the sister 77 Olds Cutlass Supreme 350R engine. 77 was the last year like this. Telly Savalas drove a chocolate brown colored one on Kojak. I believe it was the same year. They were the smoothest riding of all. Miss my sister’s 77. You’ve brought back the best memories for me, sharing this baby. I’ll be looking for one like it, until I have one and can enjoy it. Lou, you are the best, Sir.

Hi, Lou! I think the GM Colonnade intermediates were some of the most stylish cars ever to come out of the Seventies, especially the coupes. Bill Mitchell was truly a master at the craft of auto design, and I'm glad to have grown up in that era. The Regal was introduced with this generation in 1973 as a submodel within the Century series as a coupe only, then added a sedan for 1974, then became its own series for 1975. The cars were called Colonnade because they combined an enhanced roof structure with frameless glass. Hardtops (convertibles, too) were starting to fade out at that time, but I think it's clever how GM managed to make these cars look like hardtops even though they were not. It was a real pleasure having you and Jay treat us like royalty on this virtual Regal ride. As always, eagerly looking forward to the next one!

Great video. Way back my Mom had a 4 door Century of about the same year. I'm not sure the exact year, but I think I remember the marker lights on the front being round instead of rectangles like this one. Hers was a light gold, dark brown top and a weird shiny cloth interior. My Grandpa had bought it new for my Grandma. When they bought a new car my Dad bought it from them. The car was still like new. Still even smelled new. My mom drove it for a few years and she upgraded to newer when she got her new job. My Uncle bought the car from my parents and his girlfriend drove it for almost 5 years. By then it was fading a little and had a tiny bit of rust.(Grandpa always garaged it and never drove it it bad weather) Still ran great and STILL smelled new inside. (None of the owners smoked or ate in the car). When my Uncle's girlfriend bought a newer Century, the lady that was renting my Grandpa's house bought the car. :) She drove it and loved it until she was hit by a drunk driver one night when she was on her way home from work. She was not hurt, but the car was a total loss with being so old. I was bummed as I followed this car pretty much all of my life that I could recall. Didn't matter how nice most of it was. The damage to the front left and nose was too much for the insurance company to pay for. Sorry for going on and on. Just the rare sighting of this body style Buick takes me back. Thanks for sharing

Brings back memories. It's funny how so many 4-door cars had a 2-door variant of the same/similar model back then. These cars were a dime-a-dozen back then. Not any more. People want them because the days of the 2-door cars that "glide" are over. Man, do I miss my'76 Cutlass Supreme (350/350 also). I've had other cars through the years (now, a '16 Maxima), but that Cutlass is the one I think about the most (and it wasn't quiet because the glass was laminated, it was just that smooth, V8 smooth). Great stuff as always,, Lou.

Lou. It was nice seeing a 75 model vehicle. My dad bought a 75 Oldsmobile Cutlass S, brand new in late 75. I was with him when he picked it up. It was his weekend car, among his other antique cars. It even took us to California in the summer of 76. He unfortunately sold it in 1980, with just over 14,000 miles on it. I did get to drive it a couple of times before he sold it.

There really is something special about those early to mid 70s Buicks...I remember my buddy's Mom got a 73 Regal coupe like this one, and it really was a great car in every way. Those Buick V8s are so smooth and quiet, and the lines on this car still look great today, it's really too bad we didn't appreciate what we had back then. The owner must have spent a fortune to do the body off restoration, but it was worth every penny, love them when they are returned to original. Optioned nicely, except for maybe the bucket seat option, don't know if they had split bench for these cars. Nice bumper guards and classy wheels. It's a shame he had to part with it, but at least it is in a great home... Where is this VOLO museum, anywhere near Chicago, would love to visit sometime when I layover there...

Beautiful GM Buick Regal! Regals were always a personal luxury car similar to Monte Carlo, Cutlass, and Grand Prix. In the 1970’s these were so common that I just about took these types for granted. I didn’t but almost. LOL!! Although much different, my 1995 Buick Regal Custom, 2 door, was a great car both in looks & mechanics. Thanks Jay & Lou for a prime example of a 1970’s era Buick!

My Dad had one - it was silver with a black top. It was going to be mine when I turned 16 in 1986. Unfortunately my Dad got T-Boned at the light at the bottom of our street in 1985. So instead of that beauty . . . first car was a powder blue 1978 Buick Skylark with a weak (but dependable) straight six. These were the cars I remember seeing on the road when I was a kid. They were also the type my brothers and I were looking at for first cars in the early '80's. It took me a long time to consider them collectible but I definitely do now. If the younger people would drive them, they'd say "WOW! It's so comfortable and easy to drive!...why aren't cars like this now?" They performed more than adequate and all the options you sensibly needed. My new car is nice, but darn it, if you ran over a dime you can tell the date! LOL Well, we can exit onto a highway off-ramp at 70!! Isn't that great?! Not. By the way Lou, door jamb vents were used to release air on car doors and hatches when they were closed.

I owned a 1973 Regal. Not a good car, but nothing else in the day was any better. It burned out ignition points every 5,000 miles, we never could get it to run properly when cold. It kept stalling. When it was 3 years old I noticed water in the trunk. It was coming in around the tail lamps due to rust on the rear body panel that held the tail lamps and around the back window. Mine was triple black and the upholstery on top of the rear seat was already sun faded. It looked gold.

I liked the styling of GM's 'colonnade era' coupes, which were built on the A-body platform. This included the Pontiac Grand Am, the Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham, the Chevy Laguna, and the Buick Regal that you have shown here. I had just graduated from high school in the mid-70's and wished I could afford one of them. Unfortunately for me, I couldn't so I bought a brand-new '75 Chevy Nova coupe with the 350 (2-barrel) V8. GM's cars were pretty good back then, before things went south for a couple of decades. Thanks Jay! (great cars at Volo). Thanks Lou! 👍

Unlike my '88 Beretta which was the complete opposite 👎 Worst car I ever owned. I couldn't even tell you exactly how I felt because it would not be very nice. This car is a real beauty. Mine is not exactly that perfect, but pretty close... So sad on one hand, that such regular cars from the 70s never really made it into collectors focus. On the other hand, exactly that makes them special on car shows today. Never seen a second one so far, here in Germany.

gorgeous car, beautiful bronzy color. really, as much as people gripe about the 70's, the GM colonnade cars were really perfect for the time, with boatloads of style and comfort, even luxury, and could still be optioned to have performance too. A new owner of a colonnade would be proud to drive such a stylish car. I'm sure the 350 in this isn't a road burner, but probably very comfortably gets it down the road. IIRC, you still get a 455 too, at least in the GS. Yea, probably some production quality issues, but other than Mercedes at the time, not much else was built too well either. Thx Lou and Jay for showing this piece of history.

After watching this, it makes me think about seeing these brand new at Bill Cook Buick in Arlington Heights Illinois, the 1975 Chicago auto show or if you really want something to about, watching LMAD and hearing Jay Stewart hawking those cars with the V-6 engine as a prize on the show. My mom back in 1975 had bought a brand new’75 Olds Cutlass S from Martin J Kelly Oldsmobile, but ours was a special edition GMO in tan with a white landau vinyl roof, white swivel bucket seat interior and a contrasting tan carpet & dashboard. It had the 350 4 bbl engine and gave the worst gas mileage ever. It was a nice car but that’s the major fault it had. Had she not bought it I would have convinced her to look at the Regal because to me it had the look of a midsized personal luxury car!! We had also looked at the Grand Prix and the Monte Carlo but said they had too much front end to which I replied that’s what the style was at the time, so she bought the Cutlass & drove it for 5 years until she made it clear about getting a car that got over 30 mpg, so while I was at the auto show, I considered any of the GM intermediate cars with a 6 cylinder engine and instead I ended up with a 1980 Chevy Chevette, but that’s another story!!!

My younger brother had a 75 Regal. Had decent ride for a mid sized car. I always thought Regals looked better than the Olds Cutlass. It had only a 350-2bbl. carb. I was surprised it had the power it had. That car could burn rubber and I'm Not Talking about a chirp. It got about 15 MPG city, and 20MPG highway. That's 5 MPG better than my 455s. I. wonder if the 350-4bb is as good on gas??

Why is the Buick century older models like this is not rebuild ?
@loucostabile
@loucostabile 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Iman Der Dumme, In my opinion, the car came out right after the wonderful Muscle Car era of 1971, governmental regulations put horse power emission controls on engines and did help performance at all, and build quality was low. Adding these factors, is why I think we see few mid 1970-mid though 1980's cars, and that's why it's great to see one in this condition, Lou
