I am proud to present this Food Packet Survival Tropic 2 - never before photographed or documented. This rare Pilot's Survival Ration only had cigarettes in the first two models - the ST and ST-2. Produced in 1950, it uses many transitional WW2-Korean War ration components. An amazing time capsule - and now sealed in time. I hope you enjoy this review.
HUGE thank you to Sniiip3r off Ebay & MREinfo - here is a link to his shop that sells an extensive variety of international rations including this Portuguese Navy 24hr:

Check out his shop! You won't be disappointed - and he's a awesome dude.

I was born in 1950. Amazing enthusiasm from this young man, makes these videos very watchable. He was wrong though when he said that people didn't know the risks of cigarette smoking back in the day. We did... Also, never thought I would ever say this about KZbin, but I noticed the comment section is extremely, overwhelmingly positive!!! Very refreshing and hope restoring. Good people making good comments about a good guy........Nice

Hey everyone, this is a very special ration - the ST-2 was never before photographed or properly documented. Before all existing examples are hoarded in private collections, opened off camera, or simply thrown away as "old food" we can seal it in time with this video. Despite it's slight quirks and flaws, I hope you all still enjoy the video and experience. A very important transitional survival ration. I want to thank Sniiip3r off MREinfo and Ebay for making this one happen *EDIT* The previous link to Sniiip3r's shop was not working - here is the working link! stores.ebay.com/sniip3r/ Working on new videos right now, so stay tuned folks! Alright, cool. See ya. -Steve

Steve1989MREInfo random question... are you a smoker? Or do you just try the cigarettes from older rations? I'm honestly just curious. 😁 if you're not a smoker and you just do it to try them I actually think that's awesome! It adds depth to your videos! I love all the content you put out! Much love Steve!

Hey steve, part of the difference between cigarettes back in the day, and now, is that at some point in the 60's, the cigarette companies started adding adulterants in far greater quantities. My brother, having worked tobacco farms, can tell you that the best smokes came from long leaves kept high and dry (and in a bird free area, 'nuff said.). It was also rumored that each brand started including chemicals in the tobacco, making them more viciously addictive and and untraceable until burned. My insight on that is purely anecdotal, as I have seen several relatives have odd reactions to cigarettes that were not their usual brand. (made them feel high or made them feel sick). As always, thank you for documenting a bit of history for us.
@Tiger351
@Tiger351 6 жыл бұрын
Lots of stuff was done to cigarettes around that time, lower quality tobacco started to be used (premium stuff was reserved for pipe and "roll your own" tobacco), filtered cigarettes became common rather than unfiltered, milder strength cigarettes (not sure if that was achieved by just the filters or a chemical process as well) and later (70's I think) impregnating smokeless gunpowder in the paper to make them burn faster. No idea exactly what chemicals were added, but even doctors agree you're better off to roll your own cigarettes (with filters) than smoke factory made ones.

D. Hall Cigarettes don't actually have anything added to make them smooth, it's a matter of the blend, during the 1950'-1960's harsher Cigarettes grew popular and that's when Marlboro and Newport began dominating the market. These older cigarettes from 30's-40's were smoother simply because people smoked them filterless and they had to be. You can actually search on the Tobacco companies website for a full list of additives to their cigarettes, you'll quickly learn the whole 200 chemicals story is a flat out lie. It's licorice extract and some preservatives.

It's pretty crazy to consider this has never been documented, but this and potentially many others have been sitting away for all these years. I had never considered Jelly bars to be such a risk of contaminant to other things before. Great upload steve! I do enjoy your cigarette featuring MRE's just to see how they held up, and the difference they have.

It really is Elboydo. And very good chance it will never have any documentation again. Many rations have been opened up/thrown away over the years and are essentially extinct. So sealing them in time is my main mission on this channel. Those Jelly Bars were certainly held an unexpected turn of events. At least they were still "sortof edible" Thanks so much man! I really love when these old ones have the smokes - nothing beats that experience.

Well, this one was certainly interesting. I'd have to agree with you, heat stress was most likely the cause of this. Jello gets like that under consistent exposure. Either sun or, someone's cabinet under a light bulb. Considering the collectors are old timers with no interest in sharing, i'm willing to bet it was the second one. And if that's the case, just like in the car world where they let cars rot because "my investment" shame on them. This one is one of the hardest to find info on rations. There are some older pics, a fella has a few pictures from the "manuals" but certainly can't compete with this video.
