First ever Monday Night Football home game at Shea, it was a very low scoring game, however it was a wild, rowdy, crazy football game, excellent memories!!

Can't believe it took 9 years before they had a MNFgame from Shea Stadium. Great Memories.

It's not that hard to believe: the Jets were pretty bad for most of the '70s (and the Giants even worse), and home games rarely sold out. It would be a ratings disaster for MNF if they were blacked out in the NYC market. There was never a MNF game hosted by the L.A. Raiders, either--in that case it was because the Coliseum was too big to sell out consistently.

Apparently they smuggled in fire crackers and guns to this game and had a really disastrous crowd.

I had (and still have) season tickets, and I was there that night with my father. Many season ticket holders sold or gave their tickets away that night, so the crowd was even rowdier than most Jets games at Shea were. Some fans stormed the field after the game, which would be expected if the team had won a championship, but this win only improved the team's record to three wins and four losses. The scene in the parking lot was even worse. Fights, rowdy drunken behavior...glad we were able to get home safely that night. And I say this as a diehard Jets fan who LOVED Shea Stadium!

@@pronkb000 Yes there was a MNF at the LA Coliseum in 1983 Dolphins/Raiders. Dan Marino's 1st NFL game. You are correct about the blackout, because the game wasn't televised in Los Angeles

He was to work on the broadcast of Game 6 of the 1979 World Series to be played in Baltimore the next day. He could have done both. WS Game 5 was in Pittsburgh. Not extensive travel, but maybe not enough corresponding flights.
