I bought one of the programmable Tiny tachs last fall so I could set for my Yamaha 40 hp 3 cylinder it worked great on the muffs at idle but kept going blank at upper rpms out on the lake. They have great customer service if you ever need to call. The units do have a master reset if needed you pull back the upper corner of the sticker and under there’s a little black rubber box you push a straight pin into and it turns back on if it goes blank. The guy told me to just use 1 or 2 wraps of the red wire I started out with 3 or 4. same thing kept happening though maybe I just got a bad one, He said send it back and they’d send me a new one. Thanks for the video you just reminded me to send it back I forgot all about it.!!!!! 😅 👍🏻👍🏻

Got the 35johnson and 33evinrude pulled apart ready for the short shaft conversion. Just ordered a new impeller so gotta wait for that, and I got a bunch of new seals since I already got it apart...Everything looks good for the swap tho, got the right shaft and shift rod, and water tube looks perfect. I wish I could just bolt the 35 gear on the 33, but the flanges are slightly different and don’t seal... i know the job is only 45% done, but I’m feeling pretty accomplished for today.. Also, I just got me one of those square IBC totes for forklifts, gonna make an engine test tank out of it like OldJohnnyRude has, basically just cut a bigger hole in the top(leaving as much of the top as you can) and attach a transom board where it needs to be. Nice big tank with a drain and the top keeps all the water in. They are pretty big and heavy tho, so it needs an accessible and fairly permanent spot. 275 gallons I think they are but they don’t need to be filled Up. I even seen a guy set up an exhaust fan for his in his garage, his channel is rmd creations and he got a whole how to video for his test tank set up. I paid 20$ for non food grade and dirty one. Edit: I just searched for a video on how to remove the shift rods, and I found one by “thisoldoutboard”, I was like “sweet!”, but it wasn’t you, there’s another guy with that same name spelled in lower case with no spaces, few less subscribers, weird, hopefully he ain’t taking some of your video traffic..

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 what is considered wear on a clutch dog? I got some very slight dents in the tips of the corners. At what point do they start slipping out of gear? Is it like basically the entire ear gotta break off, or just the tips being rounded will do it?

Up date...I went outside and measured the plastic drum I use and it's 23 inches! My Yamaha fits in it. I did cut the drum in half. It does flex quite a bit... I wouldn't recommend putting you motor in gear but it should work. It's the best way to tune your thru hub outboard....Also...that tiny tac is a good tool to have. I've had one for at least 12 years and it still works...Great for small engines.

If you lay those plastic barrels down and cut a slot in the side for the skeg/prop, you'll have lots of room. just lay a couple 2X4's along the sides so it doesn't roll. The distance from the cavitation plate to the bottom of the skeg on the outboard is less than 24". I hope this helps. cheers🇨🇦

A couple years ago was thinking about adding a temp guage on the dash for my Starcraft and still might do it. I think there is a spot on the head that I remove a plug bolt and screw a water sensor in. Then just run the wire to a temp guage. I have a tach on my dash but what I would like is a test tach to have by the engine to set the carbs which on these motors needs to be set @ Idle. Tiny tach would work but I would rather look at the actual rpm and not have to deal with math. I can barley count as it is😃

you need that little $10 float level tool. forgot the part #, but it sets them perfectly. yours needs to be a little up on the free end so it shuts fuel flow off perfectly. i'm sure its fine but you can use that tool for your smaller motors too. float drop 28-41mm.

Removing that shift rod screw is much easier if you just puller the starter off... But, it looks to me as if someone has replaced this engine's original small gearcase with the larger 70hp full size gearcase....This is a good thing! The bigger gearcase is much more robust than the original smaller one. The gear ratio might be different than the original gearcase, but that can be worked out with a different pitch prop if necessary. The tiny tach seems to be about twice the RPM as you mentioned. You might want to swap out the needle/seat and float from Cody's carb to be sure you have the carb leak solved.... Let me know when you want to review those sync adjustments buddy. D
@THISOLDOUTBOARD14 жыл бұрын
Hey. How can I know for sure if the gearcase was swapped. Thanks again !
@fleetwin14 жыл бұрын
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 What clued me in was when you read the size of the propeller, it is the standard diameter for the larger gearcases, it would not fit on the smaller gearcase that came with this engine, you noticed this as well...Have a look at the gearcase on your 40hp, it is physically smaller than the one on this 55hp, so is the prop. I have made a swap like this once before, but remember that I couldn't use all the mounting bolts for the large gearcase on this smaller exhaust housing. If you look in the cavity where the trim tab is, you will see a small hole where the 5/16" bolt normally goes up into the exhaust housing, I'm betting that bolt was not used in this application. If you look at this gearcase, you can see that the paint doesn't really match the rest of the exhaust housing also. But, like I said, this was a good swap, the little gearcases on these engines were a bit weak, the pinion gears liked to split apart on heavier applications..... Just make sure you lube the splines with the OMC moly lube, and the shift rod height adjustment may not follow the specs in the book.....D
